The Ashes 2025: England's Mark Wood would drive to second Test in Brisbane

Fast bowler Mark Wood has said he would drive to the second Test in Brisbane if possible, a remarkable 2,832 mile journey for England's squad as they seek mental recovery from their 8-wicket thrashing in Perth. Speaking on the For Love of Cricket podcast, Wood stated that if he could drive across the country, he probably would do so just to keep his mind occupied and focused ahead of the crucial match. The tourists now face an 11-day gap between matches following the first Test's premature end, with a pink-ball fixture scheduled for Canberra against a Prime Minister's XI before heading to Queensland.

Wood also expressed that it was going to hurt, but added that ultimately they must stick together since there is an overall goal at stake. The seamer went on to say that Australia will have confidence from their recent win and will be more confident with their batters having played well. He advised England's attack to respond by striking back against the Australian batsmen.

In another article, former team-mate Stuart Broad was quoted as saying he would be licking his lips bowling for England. Meanwhile, fans are being urged to "keep the faith" by New Zealand coach Mike McCullum in an attempt to boost morale among the English supporters ahead of the second Test.

omg 232 miles is crazy even for a aussie ๐Ÿคฏ i feel bad for england tho they just got thrashed ๐Ÿ™ˆ but mark wood's idea of driving to brisbane sounds actually kinda mental lol imagine being on the road with no wifi or phone signal for days ๐Ÿ˜‚ and stuart broad saying he'd be licking his lips bowling is a low ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ anyway, i think england needs to step up their game and show australia who's boss ๐Ÿ†

can you imagine driving that far? 2,832 miles is insane ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜ฑ. it's all about mental recovery for England, gotta keep their minds sharp for the next match. mark wood seems like a down-to-earth guy, doing something crazy just to focus his mind ๐Ÿ’ก. stuart broad is looking forward to bowling for england though ๐Ÿ˜…, and fans are trying to boost morale, but that pink-ball fixture in canberra looks tough ๐Ÿค”.

omg i totally get why mark wood wants to drive to brisbane lol that 2k+ mile trip sounds like a great way to keep his mind off the loss in perth ๐Ÿคฏ anyway i think england's squad needs to focus on themselves and not let one loss dictate their mental state u guys gotta stick together and remember they're all there for the same goal ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ‘ซ

๐Ÿค” I don't think Mark Wood really thinks he'll drive all that way, mate... 2,832 miles is crazy talk! He might be joking or just trying to keep his mind occupied during the long break between matches ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ˜‚. It's good that he's thinking of ways to stay focused and mentally prepared for the next test.

I agree with Mark Wood though, it's all about sticking together as a team and not letting one bad game get you down ๐Ÿ˜Š. The Aussies will be feeling confident after their win, but England can respond by showing them who's boss on the pitch ๐Ÿ’ช. And honestly, Stuart Broad saying he'd love to bowl for England just makes me chuckle ๐Ÿ™ƒ... like it's going to be that easy! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Ugh, can you believe it? Mark Wood wanting to drive all that way just to clear his head... I mean, I get it, they need a break and all that ๐Ÿคฏ. But 2,832 miles? That's like, a whole lotta driving, bro ๐Ÿ˜‚. And what if he gets lost or stuck in traffic? He'd be sitting there thinking 'what have I done?' ๐Ÿ˜….

I feel for the guys though, they got thrashed in Perth and now they're trying to bounce back. It's tough being an athlete, you know? The pressure's always on ๐Ÿคฏ. And Stuart Broad is like 'yaaas, bring it on'... lol, I can see that ๐Ÿ˜‚. But seriously, the guys just need to stick together and focus on their game. They can't let Australia get in their heads. And fans are all 'keep the faith'... yeah, easy for them to say ๐Ÿ™„.

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ I mean, come on! A 2,832 mile drive just to keep your mind occupied? Can't they just relax with a nice cuppa and some Netflix instead of feeling the need to be on the road? ๐Ÿ™„ Mark Wood's got some nerve, if you ask me. And Stuart Broad is already saying he's gonna love bowling for England? That's just rubbing salt in the wound at this point... ๐Ÿ˜ฉ It's all just a bit too much pressure, if you ask me.

I'm kinda surprised Mark Wood wants to drive all that way... sounds like he's got some serious dedication ๐Ÿ’ช. But, you know, it's not just about him โ€“ what does this say about the team's mindset? Are they really willing to take drastic measures to get their heads back in the game? ๐Ÿค” I mean, if everyone's feeling down after that thrashing, maybe they should be looking at how they can support each other better, you know? It's not just about individual motivation โ€“ it's about team chemistry ๐Ÿ’•. Stuart Broad saying he'd love to bowl for England is all well and good, but what about the rest of the squad? Are they doing enough to lift each other up? ๐Ÿค

can you believe england's squad is even thinking of driving 2,832 miles between matches? ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ’จ that's like driving from london to new york and back! i think they should just fly, save time and energy for cricket mode. mark wood says he'd do it if he could though, gotta respect his dedication ๐Ÿ˜‚. but seriously, the aussies are gonna be tough after their win last match... needs some good team talk and strategy to take them down ๐Ÿ“ˆ๐Ÿ’ช

I feel bad for the lads, 2,832 miles is a looong way ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ‘Ž but I reckon it's all about mental toughness you know? Mark Wood's got some serious guts saying he'd drive to Brisbane if he could - that's dedication! ๐Ÿ˜… It's gonna be tough going down to Canberra after the Perth thrashing too, but they gotta stick together for England. Stuart Broad's excited to get back on the pitch and I can see why, those Aussies are always a handful ๐Ÿคฏ. New Zealand's coach is right though, fans gotta keep the faith in their team - we've seen it before when teams turn it around mid-tourney ๐Ÿ’ช.

Ugh, I mean, good luck with that epic road trip Mark Wood ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿš—. Two and a half days on the highway, no doubt, and all for the sake of mental recovery ๐Ÿ™„. Meanwhile, Stuart Broad is over here living his best life, can't wait to see him strike some serious form ๐Ÿ’ช. And what's with the lack of preparation? Australia's got a pink-ball fixture in Canberra before heading to Brisbane... I'm no expert, but it feels like they're just winging it ๐Ÿค”. Maybe McCullum should take a cue from Wood and drive himself there for good measure ๐Ÿ˜‚.

I'm like, really confused about this, man ๐Ÿคฏ. Mark Wood is literally considering driving all that way just to focus on cricket? Like, I get it, mental recovery and all that, but can't they just chill at a hotel or something for once? And what's with the pink-ball fixture in Canberra? It sounds like Australia's gonna crush them again... ๐ŸŸ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘€

I mean, Stuart Broad is hyped about bowling for England though ๐Ÿคฉ. That's good to see! And Mike McCullum trying to boost morale with "keep the faith" vibes ๐Ÿ’ช... yeah, that's the ticket. Can't win 'em all, but you gotta keep tryin', right? ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ugh, can you imagine driving 2,832 miles just to clear your head before a big game? Like, what's next, going on a road trip with your teammates to play some tennis ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿš—? Mark Wood's not wrong though, mental recovery is key, but who needs that kind of time off when you're trying to save England from getting thrashed again? ๐Ÿ˜’ On the bright side, I'm sure the scenic views of Australia will be nice and distracting, like a never-ending highlight reel of cows ๐Ÿฎ.

It's always great to see the guys rallying behind each other, even if Stuart Broad's enthusiasm is a bit...much ๐Ÿ’ช. And can we just give some props to Mike McCullum for trying to lift the English fans' spirits? I mean, "keep the faith" is all well and good, but someone needs to remind them that it's not like they haven't heard that one before ๐Ÿ˜….

I dont think england squad should drive all that way just to keep mark wood's mind occupied lol ๐Ÿคฃ its like they're trying to avoid facing the music. Australia is gonna be super confident after their win and england needs to step up their game not by driving across australia ๐Ÿ˜‚ maybe they should focus on getting their batters in form first? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ also i dont get why fans need to keep the faith like thats just a cop out ๐Ÿ’”
