The great Christmas taste test: I tried seven fast food offerings. Which will make me feel festive?

The festive fast food battle lines have been drawn. After sampling seven seasonal offerings from major high-street chains, I can confidently say some truly capture the Christmas spirit while others fall woefully short.

Wagamama's Chicken Cranberry Katsu Curry was a masterstroke of restraint, cleverly tweaking their existing katsu curry recipe to incorporate cranberries without overdoing it. For £15.30, it's a bargain that will leave you feeling festive and only fractionally more calorific than the regular version – a win in my books.

Greggs' Festive Bake was a pleasant surprise. The combination of sage, onion, bacon, and cranberry in their classic chicken bake worked surprisingly well, and at £2.10, it's an unbeatable value. If they'd added some festive cheese or ham, I might have given it more points – but as it stands, 3/5 is a fair assessment.

McDonald's Double Big Tasty meal was a bold move, plying customers with what amounts to a Big Mac in all but name, smothered in hot churrasco mayonnaise and two bubble and squeak croquettes. It's an oddball Christmas offering that fails to capture the spirit of the season – 1/5.

The KFC Stuffing Tower Burger is a lazy attempt at festive branding, with sage and onion flavours that feel like school dinners and an arbitrary addition of cranberry to try and tick a few festive boxes. The burger itself is good but uninspired, and the total price tag of £9.49 doesn't make it any more palatable.

Nando's Total Sleigh Burger was perhaps the biggest disappointment. Two bubble and squeak croquettes on a perfectly serviceable burger with hot churrasco mayonnaise feels like a desperate attempt to inject some festive flavour – 1/5.

Lastly, Krispy Kreme's Festive Dozen is a masterclass in Christmas marketing. With their Quality Street spin-offs last month and this dozen featuring snowmen, Santa tummies, and Christmas trees, it's clear they're not messing about. Their buttercream and cream cheese filling are sweet treats that will make your ears ring (a real thing that happens) – 5/5.

In the end, I'd say Krispy Kreme takes the festive fast food crown with their commitment to quality and seasonal flair. But only if you value being wowed by Christmas-themed donuts over actual festive spirit. The rest of the bunch can try harder next year.

I think it's pretty deep when you consider what all this fuss about festive fast food is really about 🤔. It's not just about getting our hands on a tasty meal during the holidays, but also about feeling connected to the spirit of the season. For me, that means embracing the little things – like a well-crafted katsu curry or a sweet Christmas-themed donut 🍰 – rather than just going through the motions with whatever bland, mass-produced option is in front of us.

I mean, let's be real, some of these restaurants are really trying to push the envelope (or not, as the case may be 😂). But at the end of the day, it's all about how we choose to engage with the world around us. Do we opt for something that truly feels festive and authentic, or do we settle for a lazy attempt at seasonal flair? That's what I'm trying to get at – the value we place on feeling like we're really experiencing the holiday season, versus just going through the motions 🎄

So I'm still trying to figure out why some of these high-street chains are really pushing the limits on this festive fast food thing 🤔. Like, seriously, McDonald's? A Big Mac in all but name with hot churrasco mayonnaise? It just feels like they're trying too hard to be extra and forgetting what Christmas is actually about 🎄.

And don't even get me started on KFC's Stuffing Tower Burger – it sounds like a bad 90s school dinner 😷. The idea of adding cranberry just for the holidays feels super lazy to me. At least Krispy Kreme tried to bring some festive flair with their Christmas-themed donuts, but I mean come on, who needs all that sugar rush? 🍰

omg i actually think nando's was kinda genius 🤔, those bubble and squeak croquettes might be lazy but they added a fun element to their burger that worked 🎉, and 2/5 is still way better than mcdonalds' mess 🚮 at least nando's didn't try to pass off their festive burger as a big mac with some sprinkles on top 😂

I'm gonna be real, it's all just a marketing ploy at this point 🤑 Krispy Kreme's Festive Dozen might get 5/5 but it's because they're basically just slapping cute Christmas decorations on their already-great donuts. The others are just copying their moves, trying to ride the festive wave without actually putting any thought into what Christmas is about 🤔 I mean, Nando's Total Sleigh Burger was a total mess and McDonald's Double Big Tasty meal sounded like they just threw some leftover ingredients together 🤮 And don't even get me started on Wagamama's, it's £15.30 for a fancy-schmancy katsu curry? Not my cup of hot cocoa ☕

omg i know right!!! krispy kreme is the winner for me tooooo 😍🎄 they just get it, u know? their festive dozen is like a whole different level 🤩 and those donuts are literally too cute to eat... but can i please just eat them tho? 🍰😂 anyway, gotta say i'm surprised by how much i loved the wagamama's chicken cranberry katsu curry 🍜 it's like they took their regular recipe and made it festive without going overboard 👏

omg i cant even right now 🤯 i mean what is up with kfc's stuffing tower burger?? theyre trying to pass off sage and onion like its a new thing 😂 and who thought adding cranberry was a good idea?? its like they just phoned it in 📞 at least the nandos total sleigh burger had the decency to be bad 🤮 but that krispy kreme festive dozen tho 👀 cant get enough of those donuts 🍩 its like they're trying to make christmas feel magical again ✨

omg the new krispy kreme festives dozen is fire 🎄🍰 i mean who wouldn't want snowmen and santa tummies on their donuts lol anyway gotta disagree with the mcdonalds double big tasty it's like they just threw a bunch of festive stuff on a classic burger idk what kind of festivity that is 😂

I just read this thread about fast food for christmas and I gotta say, Krispy Kreme's Festive Dozen is a total game changer 🤩, I mean who needs actual turkey when you have a dozen snowman donuts? lolol, but seriously, their commitment to quality and festive flair can't be beat. Wagamama's katsu curry was pretty solid too, I might have to try that out this weekend 🍴

omg krissy kreme is def taking the festive crown 🎅🍰 lol i completely agree with that review, their festive dozen is so on point 🤩 and who needs actual festive food when you have snowmen and santa tummies on your donuts 😂 anyway, wagamama's katsu curry was pretty solid too 👌 gotta try it now!

omg i agree with krispy kreme they totally slayed their festive dozen 🤩🎅️, 5/5 is a fair assessment imo 👍, but ugh mcdonalds double big tasty meal sounds like a total fail 😷, can't believe they'd mess up christmas vibes like that...

omg yaaas i'm so down for that krispy kreme festive dozen 🍰🎄 5/5 from me too!! their christmas marketing is on point and who can resist those adorable snowmen donuts? 🤣 as for the others, wagamama's chicken cranberry katsu curry was a nice touch, but greggs' festive bake was kinda meh 🤔 and don't even get me started on nando's total sleigh burger, that just feels like they're trying too hard to be festive 😂

omg i cant agree more 🤯 i was so excited to try all these festive fast food options but sadly some were just a total letdown 🤦‍♀️ krispy kreme's festive dozen is literally the star of this whole thing - who wouldn't want a dozen of those sweet, fluffy donuts with festive designs? 😍 meanwhile, i was expecting so much more from wagamama and nando's their attempts at being festive just fell flat 🙅‍♂️ but at least they're trying, right? 🤗

the festive fast food battle is defo on 🎅👀 i personally think krispy kreme nails it with their dozen - who wouldn't want a dozen snowmen-shaped chocolate yums? 🍰😍 but seriously, wagamama's chicken cranberry katsu curry should've taken the top spot, it's so underrated & £15.30 is a steal for that much festive love 💕

🍔🎄 just read that Krispy Kreme's Festive Dozen is 5/5 but honestly I was expecting more from the other chains 🤦‍♂️ their 'festive flavor' is still just a marketing gimmick to me 💸 it's been pretty disappointing this year, I mean who needs a burger with hot churrasco mayonnaise when you can have actual festive food 🙄

I mean, have you seen these new festive fast food options?! 🤯 I'm telling ya, Krispy Kreme's Festive Dozen is the real MVP! 5/5 stars from me! 🎁 Those snowman donuts are straight fire 🔥. And let's be real, who needs actual holiday cheer when you can just eat a dozen glazed donuts with Christmas sprinkles? 😂 I mean, I love the others too, but that KFC Stuffing Tower Burger was like eating my grandma's old stuffing from the 80s... 🤢 Not exactly festive vibes. And McDonald's Double Big Tasty meal? More like McDonald's Double Disappointment Meal, am I right? 😜

I think it's cool how some places are really getting into the holiday vibes, like Krispy Kreme 🎅, they're just so extra with their Christmas treats! But at the same time, I'm not loving all the weird and wacky ideas from other places, like McDonald's Double Big Tasty meal - what even is that?! It just seems like some people are rushing to come up with something festive without really thinking about how it tastes or feels.

I do think some of these fast food joints are doing a pretty good job of getting the balance right, like Wagamama and Greggs. They're not trying too hard to be all over-the-top and festive, but still manage to bring out the holiday spirit in their dishes. And let's be real, who doesn't love a good bargain? Like with Greggs' Festive Bake for just £2.10 - that's a winner!

OMG 🤩, I'm still shaking my head about Nando's Total Sleigh Burger 😂, like what were they thinking?! 🤔 It's like they took every leftover Christmas cliche and threw it into a burger... sage, onion, cranberry, bubble and squeak croquettes... ugh! 🤢 And don't even get me started on the price tag of £9.49 😳. I mean, Krispy Kreme might have won the festive fast food crown with their Festive Dozen, but Nando's is just a big ol' turkey 🦃.

And can we talk about McDonald's Double Big Tasty meal for a sec? 🤔 It was like they took all the leftover Christmas spirit and put it into a burger that's basically just a Big Mac in hot churrasco mayo... what happened to the holiday cheer?! 🎄 I mean, I love me some fast food as much as the next person, but this one was a major letdown. 😐

🍰👍 OMG I'm so down for Krispy Kreme's Festive Dozen - those snowmen & Santa tummies are HILARIOUS 🤣 and their donuts sound AMAZING!!! I'd pay good money for a dozen of those buttercream & cream cheese treats... it's like they're speaking my language 😋. The rest of the fast food chains need to step up their festive game, but Krispy Kreme is on point this year 🎉👏

I'm not convinced about Krispy Kreme's Festive Dozen just because they're trying really hard with the Christmas theme 🤔🎄. I mean, how many snowmen and Santa tummies can you realistically fit into a dozen donuts? And isn't it a bit lazy to just slap on some festive decorations instead of actually putting effort into creating something new and delicious? 🤷‍♀️ Also, £2.50 for 12 donuts feels like a pretty steep price tag considering there's no actual change from their regular offerings...
