The man taking over the Large Hadron Collider – only to switch it off

I'm so hyped about Mark Thomson becoming the director general at Cern 🤩! I've always been fascinated by particle physics, like in my astrophysics class last semester 😅. The idea that he's going to be working on the LHC and possibly the FCC is mind-blowing! But I do wonder if it's just a power move for him 🤔. I mean, 15 billion Swiss francs is crazy talk 💸. Anyway, I hope he can make some major breakthroughs and we get more answers about those Higgs bosons 🔍. This whole thing is giving me life as a student who loves science! Can't wait to see what the future holds 🎉

lol what's the point of all this colliding protons & particle physics jazz? I mean don't get me wrong, it's cool & all but can we talk about how much cash is being pumped into this stuff? 15 billion Swiss francs?! that's like a small country's GDP or something 🤑. and what about the environmental impact of building these massive machines? not to mention the cost of maintaining them... seems like a lot of money for "discovery" if you ask me 💸.

I'm low-key worried about this FCC upgrade 🤔, feels like we're spreading ourselves too thin. 15 billion Swiss francs is a lot of cash to throw around just to see if we can make more discoveries 🤑. Can't help but think about the distribution of funding – where's it coming from? Is it being allocated fairly among member states or are some getting left behind? 🤝 What does this say about our priorities as a global scientific community? Are we putting all our eggs in one basket with these massive colliders?

I think its cool that Cern is getting this major upgrade 🤔. I mean, 15 billion Swiss francs is a lot of dough 💸, but if it means we can find out more about the universe and stuff like that, then imo its worth it 💪. The problem is, what happens after this? Is the FCC really the next step forward or just another big project to keep us occupied 🤷‍♂️? I guess only time will tell if Mark Thomson's got a master plan or just wants to see his name in lights 😉.

I gotta say, this guy Mark Thomson seems like a total science rockstar 🤩. Taking on the director general role at Cern is a huge deal, and I'm intrigued to see how he's gonna balance his enthusiasm for the shutdown with the needs of the organization. It's awesome that he sees it as an opportunity to dig deep into data and uncover new physics results - the man's got skills! 💡

But, gotta wonder if this is all about the science or if there's some politicking going on 🤔. I mean, the LHC upgrade comes with a pretty penny price tag (15 billion Swiss francs, that's crazy 💸), and now we're hearing rumblings about the Future Circular Collider? It's like they want to create this next big thing before we even know what it is 🔮.

Still, can't deny the excitement around all this. With Thomson at the helm, I'm guessing Cern's gonna stay on top of its game for a while longer ⏱️. And hey, who knows, maybe the FCC will be the one to change the game 🔄. Either way, I'm stoked to see what they come up with next! 🔬
