Photographers Reclaim Narrative: New "Big Five" Book Shines Light on Endangered Species

In a groundbreaking project, British photographer Graeme Green has reclaimed the narrative from trophy hunters and created a new "big five" – a global call to action for endangered wildlife. The book features stunning images of iconic species, including elephants, polar bears, lions, gorillas, and tigers, alongside essays from renowned conservationists and activists.

The concept of "Big Five" was originally used by trophy hunters in Africa, but Green's vision is far more inclusive and ambitious. He drew inspiration from a 2021 poll where 50,000 people around the world voted for the animals they would most like to photograph or see photographed in the wild. The top five winners are now ambassadors for the alarming decline of wildlife on our planet.

The publication coincides with a stark reminder of nature's rapid decline, according to the UN, which reports that one million species face extinction. Green's project aims not only to raise awareness but also to inspire action and promote solutions. The book includes contributions from top wildlife photographers like Ami Vitale, Steve McCurry, and Paul Nicklen, as well as essays from prominent conservationists such as Jane Goodall.

Green spent nearly two years curating the images for the book, which showcases the beauty and creative vision of some of the world's most renowned wildlife photographers. Each image tells a story about an endangered species, drawing attention to the alarming threat posed by climate change, habitat loss, poaching, and pollution.

The book's publication serves as a timely reminder that we have a window of time to heal the harm inflicted on nature. With its powerful message and stunning visuals, "The New Big 5: A Global Photography Project For Endangered Wildlife" is an essential call to action for conservationists, activists, and wildlife enthusiasts worldwide.

"The New Big Five" book is now available, offering readers a glimpse into the world of endangered species and inspiring them to take part in protecting these incredible animals.

omg I'm literally so hyped about this new book 🤩 - it's like, finally someone's taking control of the narrative around wildlife photography instead of trophy hunters 📸💥 Graeme Green is a total hero for doing his own thing and showing us that we can use our cameras to make a real difference 🌟 I mean, 50,000 people voting on which animals they'd like to see photographed is wild in itself! 👀 And the fact that he's brought together so many talented photographers and conservationists is just amazing 📚💕 the images in this book are going to be STUNNING 🤯 it's like a wake-up call for all of us to take action on climate change, habitat loss, etc... we can't afford to wait any longer! ⏰🌎

📸😕 I'm so over these "Big Five" books that just make me feel like I've seen it all before. Trophy hunting is one thing, but now we're gonna have a global call to action? It's been done before and doesn't really solve anything. What about the animals that aren't "cool" enough for us photographers to take pictures of? The UN says 1 million species are on the brink of extinction, which isn't all that surprising if you ask me. 🌎😩 I just wanna see some actual change happen before we waste more time taking pretty pictures...

I'm really moved by this project 🌟... I mean, think about it, we're at a point where we have to redefine what's considered "trophies" or something that's worth capturing on camera. The old "big five" was all about exploitation and harm, but now it's about conservation and preservation... it's like, we've finally woken up to the fact that our actions have consequences 🌎... I'm not saying we're going to magically save these animals with just one book, but every voice matters, every image counts... we need more people like Graeme Green who are willing to use their platform for good ❤️. And can you imagine if this poll was done 50 years ago? Maybe then we wouldn't be in the state of crisis we're in now 🤯...

idk about this new "big five" thing 🤔... seems like just another way to make a quick buck off people's emotions 😒. trophy hunters were always good for that, now it's just a fancy marketing ploy 📸. all this fuss over endangered species and climate change, but what's the real solution? just more money thrown at the problem or something 🤑. ain't seen nothing like it from green or his collaborators... seems like they're just playing the victim card 🙄. can we really trust that this project is gonna inspire action or is it just another feel-good story 💔.

I'm loving this new project by Graeme Green! It's amazing how photographers can use their art to reclaim the narrative and shift our focus away from trophy hunting 📸💚. I mean, who needs to hunt wildlife when we can just appreciate them for what they are – incredible creatures that deserve our protection?

And I love how this book is all about empowering people to take action 🌟. It's not just about sharing pretty pictures; it's about inspiring a movement to save endangered species from extinction. With contributions from top photographers and conservationists like Jane Goodall, this book is the real deal! 🌿

I'm also super stoked that Green drew inspiration from a poll of 50,000 people worldwide – it just goes to show that there are so many passionate wildlife lovers out there who care deeply about these animals 🌟. And let's be real, with the UN saying one million species face extinction, we need all the help we can get! 💚

I'm so done with this whole "Big Five" thing 🙄. It's just another way for the powers that be to try and control our narrative around wildlife conservation. I mean, come on, 50,000 people voting for which animals they want to see photographed is basically a popularity contest 🤦‍♂️. What about the ones that are already getting all the attention? Like, what's the plan for those guys? Are we just gonna keep using them as a prop for our conservation efforts?

And don't even get me started on the whole "raising awareness" thing 🙃. We've been hearing about this for years and yet, one million species are still facing extinction 🤯. That's not exactly what I'd call progress. Maybe instead of throwing more money at it, we should be questioning our motivations behind conservation efforts altogether? Are we really just trying to save the animals for our own selfish reasons or is there something more profound going on here?

just saw this & i'm blown away by graeme green's project 🤯 it's amazing how he took something that was originally used for trophy hunting & turned it into a global call to action to protect our planet 🌎 the fact that 50,000 people voted for these animals tells me we're not alone in wanting to make a difference 🙏 i love how the book brings together wildlife photographers & conservationists to share their passion for protecting endangered species 💕

🐠💡 I'm thinking, if we want to tackle climate change and all that stuff, we need to start making some real changes in our daily lives... like reducing plastic use, conserving water, and investing in renewable energy 🌞. It's easy to get caught up in the problem-solving side of things but what about the economic aspect? How are people supposed to make ends meet when they're struggling to put food on the table? We need to find a balance between saving the planet and taking care of ourselves 💸🌎

🤔 I'm telling you, this "New Big Five" thing is more than just a book about wildlife photography 📸. It's like, they're trying to control our perception of what's important here on Earth. I mean, 50,000 people voting for the animals they want to see photographed? That sounds like some kind of experiment to me 🔬. And now we've got Graeme Green and all these other "experts" telling us that climate change, habitat loss, and poaching are just part of the problem 🌪️. But what about the real agenda here? Are they trying to distract us from something else? Maybe a new system or technology that's being pushed on us without us even realizing it 💻. Anyway, I guess this book is just another way for them to make us feel good while we're actually doing nothing 🤷‍♀️. But hey, at least the pictures are nice 🌳🦁.
