‘The Running Man’ Stumbles With 65% Drop At Box Office In 2nd Weekend

Paramount's dystopian thriller 'The Running Man' took a severe hit at the box office over its second weekend, plummeting 65% to just $5.8 million from Friday to Sunday. This dismal drop marked a significant change of pace for the film, which had initially earned a respectable $16.4 million in its debut frame.

Directed by Edgar Wright and starring Glen Powell as Ben Richards, a desperate contestant on a sadistic TV game show with his life hanging in the balance, the film's performance was overshadowed by Lionsgate's heist thriller 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't', which continued to reign supreme at the box office.

Despite its impressive opening weekend, 'The Running Man' struggled to find an audience, earning a domestic tally of $27 million and an international total of $21.3 million for a worldwide total of just $48.3 million. The film's production budget was estimated to be around $110 million, leaving it with a significant financial loss.

In contrast, Universal Pictures' 'Wicked: For Good', starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, stole the show at the box office, earning an estimated $150 million (including early previews) in its debut weekend. The film's massive success sent shockwaves through the industry, cementing its place as one of the biggest hits of the year.

The top five films at the domestic box office this weekend were 'Wicked: For Good', 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't', 'Predator: Badlands', 'Rental Family', and 'The Running Man'. With the final numbers for this weekend's box office set to be released on Monday, it will be interesting to see how the rankings change.

ugh man... $110 million gone down the drain just because some stupid game show with a bunch of contestants running around in circles didn't capture people's attention 🤯😡 i mean come on, who thought that was a good idea for a movie? glen powell's acting skills are wasted on this garbage, it's like he's trying to save his soul or something 💔 and don't even get me started on edgar wright, what were you thinking, dude? 🤦‍♂️ at least lionsgate made some smart money off that now you see me nonsense, but paramount just got screwed over big time 😒

man, $150 million in just one weekend is crazy 💸🤯 wickid: for good is dominating everything else out there and i'm not surprised it's pulling ahead of lionsgate's heist thriller... but seriously, $110 million production budget and they still lost money? 😩 that's some rough maths. can't help but think about the impact this has on smaller studios trying to produce movies now 📺

man thats a bummer for paramounts running man film 🤕 they must've spent so much on that production budget and now its losing so much money 😱 110 million is crazy and still only made like 48 mil worldwide 🤑 wicked: for good on the other hand is raking it in $150 mil and thats insane 💸 i dont get why people arent going to see running man though ben richards seems so cool 👍

omg what a bummer for The Running Man 🤕 its like they expected it to do super well given the Edgar Wright directing credit, i mean thats a big get 🎬 but i guess the game show concept just didnt resonate with ppl 🤔 anyone still want to watch it now tho? 🎥

man... 110 mil lost on a movie 🤑🤦‍♂️... i mean, 'The Running Man' had potential, but i guess edgar wright couldn't save it from the competition 😅. lionsgate's heist thriller was like butter for their brand, and now you see me: now you don't is basically the one to beat 🙌. and what's up with paramount taking such a hit? maybe they didn't advertise enough or something 🤔... anyway, 'Wicked: For Good' is on fire 🔥, i wonder how long that magic lasts 🎬.

🤯 48 million dollars from a $110 million production budget? that's like, crazy low bro 🤑 i mean, i know edgar wright is a genius and all but come on, you gotta expect some return on investment from a movie with this much hype 🎥. maybe the problem is that it was released during a crowded time of year or something? idk, just seems like a lot of money for not that many people to see it 💸

ugh, it looks like 'The Running Man' tanked so hard after its impressive opening week 🤦‍♂️. i mean, $48.3 million worldwide is just crazy low considering its production budget was over $110 million 💸. and to make matters worse, lionsgate's 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' took the spotlight again 🙄. it's like ben richards was running in circles while those other movies were pulling all the stops 🏃‍♂️. i guess that's just how some movies end up 😔.

🤔 So I'm watching this movie trailer for 'The Running Man' and I gotta say, it looks pretty intense... like a real-life nightmare 🌃. But after seeing how badly it's doing at the box office, I'm starting to wonder if it was ever meant to be more than just a TV show come to life. I mean, $110 million production budget and it only made around $48 million worldwide? That's like, what, 43 cents on the dollar? 😳

I think part of the problem is that the movie market has changed so much since 'The Running Man' was first released back in the 80s. People are no longer just sitting at home watching TV shows and waiting for a movie to come out. Now they're used to having instant access to everything, and if something isn't grabbing their attention right off the bat, it's hard to get them to stick around.

I'm not saying that 'The Running Man' is a bad movie or anything, but I think it just got lost in a sea of other options this weekend. I mean, have you seen the trailer for 'Wicked: For Good'? 🎭 That thing is like a work of art... and I'm guessing most people are going to go see that instead of some old-school dystopian thriller 😊.

you know what's weird? have you ever noticed how some movies can just take off like wildfire but others are stuck in neutral 🤔 like 'The Running Man' here. i mean, $110 million production budget and still they're losing dough 💸 that's crazy! anyway, i was thinking the other day about how much i love the 80s and 90s music scene... there was just something so special about it 🎵 i mean, from Guns N' Roses to Nirvana, those were some iconic bands 🤘 do you guys have a favorite old-school band or artist?

Ugh I'm so confused about these box office numbers 🤯 Paramount's 'The Running Man' had such a great opening but now it's tanking? Like what was expected of it in the first place? 🤑 $110 million production budget is crazy high for a thriller that's basically just a dystopian TV show concept on screen... I feel bad for Glen Powell, he must have been hyped to be in this film 🤔

omg, didn't see that coming 🤯 'The Running Man' was doing so well at first but I guess the hype died down too quickly 😔. think we gotta give credit to Universal's 'Wicked: For Good', that movie is FIRE 🔥! Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo slayed the screen, no surprise they got that big budget 🤑. 'Now You See Me: Now You Don't' still doing well tho, guess Lionsgate knows how to keep the momentum going 💪. on a side note, wonder what went wrong with Paramount's 'The Running Man', maybe it'll learn from its mistakes and come back stronger 🤞
