The Smallville star who joined a sex cult: best podcasts of the week

i feel like we're stuck in a cycle where people get caught up in these super intense cults or weird situations and then they become "experts" just because they survived it. Allison Mack's case is a tough one, i guess she did some damage but also went through hell at the hands of others... its hard to say what happened exactly without being there.
on the other hand, podcasts like Mary Houlihan's are really refreshing - not everyone can tackle these big issues with such finesse & humour. but at the same time, isnt it a bit privileged for her to be discussing these topics when she's already had a pretty comfortable life? anyway, some of these podcasts are def worth checking out 👍

oh my gosh 🤗 i can totally see why people would be split on giving Allison Mack a platform - it's like, you feel so bad for her that she got sucked into this toxic situation, but at the same time, we gotta consider how much power she had in these groups and whether she was actively perpetuating harm 💔. i think what this new series is trying to do is just have an honest conversation about it all 🤝. on a completely different note, have you listened to any of these podcasts yet? i'm dying to try out that one about the Robertson family - sounds so intense 😱!

I'm not sure if Allison Mack should be given a platform yet. I mean, she was part of a super controlling cult that manipulated people into doing stuff they didn't want to do 🤔. But at the same time, you can feel for her and the fact that she's been through so much trauma. It's like, how can we even have this conversation about whether or not she's responsible? 🤷‍♀️ I think what's important is listening to all sides of the story and having a nuanced discussion about power dynamics and consent. Maybe then we can get a better understanding of what happened with NXIVM 💭

I think it's so cool that there are documentaries/podcasts about some wild true stories like Apple's one about the Robertson family 🤯! It's crazy to imagine what they went through at sea, but I guess it's also a reminder that even in difficult times, humanity can come together. And yeah, Allison Mack's story is super complicated – I don't think we should just decide she's a victim or perpetrator without hearing both sides of the story 🤔. It's always interesting to see people have conversations about complex stuff like power dynamics and manipulation, though!
