The Strangers: Chapter 3 review – pointless remake trilogy ends with a sputter

Remaking the classic 2008 original 'The Strangers' into a trilogy has been a dubious decision for horror fans. Renny Harlin shot all three films back-to-back in Bratislava last year, which led to reshoots and another indifferent response from audiences, particularly following the lukewarm reception of its predecessor.

As we arrive at the final chapter of this lackluster series, it's clear that adding more characters has diluted what initially worked. Maya (Madelaine Petsch) is still navigating a sinister woodland community with an iPhone face frozen in perpetuity. The masked killers – now two instead of three – have gained new motives to pursue her, while newcomers Gregory and Debbie bring fresh faces to the cast.

However, even these additions can't elevate the dull plot that Harlin's direction has struggled to shake off. Somewhere beneath the surface is a thought-provoking commentary on an all-American community embracing killers who target outsiders. Unfortunately, this theme is glossed over in favor of scene pacing reminiscent of 90s horror classics, with 30 minutes of awkward pauses raising questions about whether there was enough plot to justify a trilogy.

Ultimately, 'The Strangers: Chapter 3' falls flat as a conclusion to the series. While the original remains a solid horror film, this final installment is little more than footnote material – a hollow attempt to squeeze out one last drop from a tired narrative that's struggling to find its footing in the modern horror landscape.

OMG, I'm so disappointed 😔... I loved the original 'The Strangers' and was really hyped for this trilogy, but it feels like they just phoned it in 📞. Adding new characters doesn't make up for the dull plot or pacing issues 🚫. It's like they're trying to stretch out a good idea too far 🤯. I get what they were going for with the commentary on outsider communities, but it gets lost in all the other stuff 💭. The original was creepy and unsettling; this final installment feels like an afterthought 📝. Maybe the fans of the series will be more open to it, but for me, it's just a sad conclusion 😕

Ugh I'm so done with these reboots 🙄... like, if it ain't broke don't fix it, right? Remaking 'The Strangers' into a trilogy was always gonna be a weird move, but now that it's finally out I gotta say, it feels like they just phoned it in. Adding more characters just makes the plot feel like a jumbled mess 🤯 - I mean what even is the point of introducing new people to Maya's storyline? And don't even get me started on the pacing... 30 minutes of awkward pauses? Come on! It feels like they were trying too hard to make it spooky and forgot about actual storytelling. I'll stick with the original, thanks 💀

I'm really disappointed with how they remade 'The Strangers' into a trilogy 🤕. I mean, I loved the original, it was so tense and creepy 😱. But this final chapter feels like they're just going through the motions... and honestly, I think it's because they are 🙃. Adding more characters didn't help, it made it feel all over the place. And don't even get me started on how slow-paced it was 🕰️. It's like they were trying to milk the franchise for every last drop of horror goodness without actually putting in the effort to create something truly scary.

ugh i just watched chapter 3 and i'm soooo disappointed 🤕 the original was like, my fave horror movie of all time but this trilogy is just meh 😐 they added too many characters and it felt like we were lost in the woods with them forever 🌳👀 can't wait for the next scary flick to come out! 🎃

Ugh 😩 I'm so over these remakes and reboots! Can't we just leave some classic horror films alone?! I get that they wanna cash in on a successful original but this trilogy thing is just lazy 🙄. Adding more characters just makes it feel like a bunch of nonsense 🤷‍♀️. And don't even get me started on the plot holes - 30 minutes of awkward pauses? That's just confusing and boring 😴. I mean, if you're gonna make a trilogy, put some thought into it! 💡 This one feels like a shallow attempt to stretch out a tired narrative 🤕. Can we just stick to original stories from now on?

I gotta say, I'm so underwhelmed by this trilogy thing... they just keep adding more characters and what do you get? A mess! The original was tight, had some real tension going on. Now it's like they're trying too hard to include everyone and forget about the plot 🤷‍♂️. And don't even get me started on the pacing – 30 minutes of nothing?! That's just cruel 😒. I mean, I'd love to see a more thoughtful exploration of that whole "outsider" theme, but nope, it gets lost in all the extra stuff 📺. The final chapter feels like an afterthought, you know? Just tacking on some new characters and calling it a day 💔. Not impressed at all 😐

🎃😐 The Strangers: Chapter 3 is such a letdown 🤕! They had the perfect recipe for a chilling film, but now it just feels like more of the same old thing 🙄. Adding new characters didn't do much to help 👀. And can we talk about how they glossed over that deep commentary on societal norms? 🤔 It's so disappointing to see that potential wasted 💔. The pacing is still wonky and it just feels like a lazy cash-grab 🤑. Can't believe the original was so solid while this one falters 😩. Not impressed at all 🎬😐

I'm so underwhelmed with this final chapter 🤕... I mean, I still think the original was kinda cool and all, but this trilogy just feels like they're milking it for all it's worth 💸. The woodland setting is creepy, don't get me wrong, but it's been done before in better horror movies 🌳. And can we talk about how boring Maya is? I mean, an iPhone with a frozen face on her? What's next, a smartwatch that never loses battery 🔋? Give her some actual character development or something! 😂

I gotta say, I'm so over these reboots and remakes 🙄. The Strangers series just didn't need a trilogy tbh. They should've left it alone after the original... it was perfect the way it was 😎. Now they're trying to cram in new characters and motives but it's like they're not even listening to what made the first one work in the first place 🤷‍♀️. The only thing that's still scary is how disappointed I am in this whole rehashing process 😔. Maybe they should've stuck to making new horror movies instead of messing with a good thing 💀.

omg i'm so done with the whole trilogy thing 🤯 like what was supposed to be a creepy atmospheric film ended up being just more of the same old mess 🙄 i mean don't get me wrong the original 2008 one still gives me chills but this latest installment is just a waste of potential 🎥 the woodland community vibe was kinda cool at first but now it's just overplayed 🌳 and the new characters are like yeah okay we'll add some fresh faces to the party 🤷‍♀️ but honestly they're not needed because the plot is still super dull 😴 30 minutes of awkward pauses?? that's just lazy storytelling 🚫 i'm so glad it's finally over now can we please move on from this trilogy? 😒

omg what a waste of $$$ they're trying to cash in on a good thing and it's just gonna be another mediocre horror flick 🤦‍♀️🎃 the trilogy thing was a bad idea, now we gotta sit through more awkward pauses than a 90s horror movie marathon 😴 and can't believe they dumbed down the plot so much, it's like they forgot what made the original so scary in the first place 🙅‍♂️

I'm kinda disappointed in how this trilogy turned out 🤔. I loved the original, but adding more characters just didn't feel right 🙅‍♂️. It's like they're trying to fit too many puzzle pieces together and it ends up looking messy 🧩. And don't even get me started on those awkward pauses - 30 minutes of nothing happening is just too much 😴. I wish they'd stuck with what made the first film so great, instead of trying to add more depth (literally!) to an already thin plot 💦. Still, it's not like it's all bad... Madeline Petsch does a solid job, and that woodland setting is still super creepy 🌳👻

🤷‍♀️ I mean, who thought remaking 'The Strangers' into a trilogy was a good idea? 🙃 The original was already pretty solid, but now it feels like they just phoned in the last chapter. Adding more characters is a total misstep – it's like trying to cram too many people onto a crowded bus. 😳 And don't even get me started on that plot... or lack thereof. It's like they took all the best parts of the first film and mashed them up with some generic '90s horror cliches. 📺 The only thing more disappointing than the final product is how it's gonna affect our collective sanity 😴.

I'm really disappointed with how this trilogy turned out 🤕. I mean, the original 'The Strangers' was a great watch, still holds up today. But adding more characters and extending it into a trilogy just didn't do the series any favors. It's like they were trying to milk it for all it's worth rather than focusing on what made the first film work in the first place 🤑.

And don't even get me started on how poorly paced this last installment is 😴. I mean, 30 minutes of awkward pauses? That's just too much. It feels like they were trying to make a point about American communities embracing killers who target outsiders, but instead it just comes across as heavy-handed and unengaging 🙄.

For me, the best part of this series is still the atmospheric tension and suspense that Renny Harlin brought to the table. Unfortunately, that's not enough to carry the trilogy to its conclusion 💔. I'd say if they had taken a step back and focused on what made the first film great, maybe we would've gotten something special 🤞. As it stands, 'The Strangers: Chapter 3' is just a footnote in horror history 📚

https://www.cinefansite.com/the-strangers-3-review/ 🎥😐 I gotta say, i was hyped for this but it just didn't deliver. They tried to shake things up by adding new characters but honestly it feels like they're just phoning it in at this point. The plot is all over the place and the pacing is super slow. i mean, 30 minutes of nothingness? that's just a waste of time. the original was tight and scary but this trilogy has been a total disappointment 🤦‍♂️

Ugh 😒 I'm so done with these remakes and reboots. Can't they just leave something alone? The original 'The Strangers' was a chill thriller, not some messy trilogy that's lost its way 🤯. And what's up with the phone? Like, Maya needs an iPhone to be scared straight? 😂 Get over yourself, girl! More characters just makes it feel like a watered-down mess, where everyone gets all their own page 😴. I mean, can't we have some actual substance instead of just shallow scares and confusing plot twists? 🙄

idk why they even bothered making a trilogy 🤷‍♂️. adding new characters just made it feel like more of the same old formula, you know? they shoulda stuck with the original 3 ppl 👻. and omg, who thought it was a good idea to have Maya walk around with an iPhone that never changes expression 😒? it's like they wanted to drive fans crazy! 🤯

I'm so down for more Maya and those creepy masked killers 😏... but at the same time, I think they should've just left it as a standalone movie 🤷‍♀️. Adding new characters like Gregory and Debbie is cool, I guess, but it's like, do we really need two love interests? 🙄 Still, I kinda want to see where this woodland community stuff goes down... even if the plot's all over the place 🤯. The pacing is whack, no doubt about it 💔... and I wish they'd focused more on that commentary thingy about America embracing its outcasts 🤔.

I'm kinda bummed about this trilogy thing 🤔... I mean, I love a good horror story as much as the next person, but remaking an entire series just feels like overkill 😩. The original 'The Strangers' was a solid flick back in 2008 - it had a creepy vibe and worked well on its own. Adding more characters to make it into a trilogy just makes it feel like they're trying too hard to stretch out a tired plot 🎬. And now that it's over, I'm left wondering what could've been if they'd just stuck with the original formula 👎. Guess you can't win 'em all, but I still think horror fans deserve better 💀
