The Trump administration’s unchecked abuses in Minnesota

A US citizen, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, 37, was shot and killed by a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis after being pepper-sprayed, beaten, and forced onto his knees. Pretti had been observing agents' actions and was also a registered nurse with a permit to carry a weapon, which he no longer possessed at the time of his death.

This incident is not an isolated case. The Trump administration's immigration crackdown in Minneapolis has seen numerous instances of unchecked abuse by ICE and CBP agents, including use of chemical crowd control like pepper spray and tear gas, brutality against protesters, bystanders, and immigrants, and baseless arrests and detentions. Local officials have pleaded with the agents to leave the state, but they continue to operate with militarized force.

In January, an ICE agent, Jonathan Ross, shot and killed Renee Good, a 32-year-old woman who was driving away from a scene. The White House and federal officials quickly backed Ross, describing Good as a domestic terrorist, despite video evidence suggesting otherwise.

Since the crackdown began in Minneapolis, there have been widespread reports of abuses by ICE agents. A family of eight was tear-gassed inside their vehicle by federal agents while on their way home from a basketball game. Another incident involved ICE agents attempting to use a 5-year-old child as "bait" to detain others.

In January, an internal memo revealed that ICE can now enter homes with only an administrative warrant, bypassing the need for a judicial warrant. This has raised concerns about the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable searches and seizures.

The Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey, has called on the Trump administration to end its operation, stating that more residents need to die or get badly hurt before it ends. However, it appears that the administration is not taking such deaths seriously.

These incidents demonstrate a clear pattern of unchecked aggression and escalation by ICE agents in Minneapolis. The Trump administration's support for these actions has emboldened the agents to behave like an occupying force rather than law enforcement officials, using tactics that are often disproportionate to the situation and disregard human rights.

omg u guys i just heard about this thing thats literally crazy alex pretti was just a normal guy who wanted to observe whats going on with the border patrol but they went all rogue on him and killed him in front of ppl it makes me so mad thinking about his family lol what if hes wife or kids were there they wouldve been traumatized for life

anyway this is not an isolated incident theres been plenty of others where ice agents have done super aggressive stuff like tear gassing families with kids in the car and using pepper spray on people who didnt even do anything wrong its so sad

and whats with the trump admin being all supportive of these actions isnt it crazy how they dont care about ppl getting hurt or killed i mean i know some ppl might say oh but hes a domestic terrorist but thats not true theres video evidence that shows otherwise

anyway im just really worried about whats happening in minneapolis right now its like ice agents are operating outside the law and no one is holding them accountable

this is just too sad 🤕 my heart goes out to alex jeffrey pretti's family... it makes me wonder if we're losing sight of what it means to be a neighbor to one another...ICE agents need some serious training on de-escalation techniques, and the fact that they think pepper spray & tear gas are acceptable is just wrong 😡 Minneapolis needs some real leadership to stand up to the trump administration's policies.

🚨 OMG, this is so insane!!! I cant believe how some of these ICE agents are treating people! 🤯 Like, what even is the point of carrying a badge if you're just gonna be a bully? 😡 And don't even get me started on that internal memo - it's like they think they can just waltz into homes without a warrant whenever they feel like it. That's soooo not right! 🙅‍♂️ I mean, what's next? Showing up to your neighbor's house with guns blazing because you heard they might be hiding some illegal immigrants? 🚫 No way, Jose!

I'm all for keeping the country safe, but this is just getting out of hand. The Minneapolis mayor is literally saying that people need to die or get hurt before something changes, and I think he's being super realistic at this point. 😔 This kind of behavior is not only unacceptable, it's also super damaging to trust in our law enforcement system as a whole.

We need some major reforms, like, ASAP! 🚨 No more pepper spray, no more tear gas, no more arrests for "suspicious activity" just because you look like an immigrant. And what about the agents who are getting away with this stuff? They need to be held accountable too! 👮‍♂️ This is not right, and we need to do something about it. 💪

This is so disturbing 🤕... it's like they're treating people as prisoners or something. The fact that they can just pepper spray someone and then shoot them because they don't have a gun anymore? Like what even is that? 😡 And all these reports of families getting tear-gassed in their cars, or kids being used as bait to get other people... it's like they're not even humans anymore. The government needs to take responsibility for this and make sure these agents are held accountable for their actions 🤝. We need better protections for people who are just trying to live their lives without getting caught up in all this chaos 😩.

🤬 I'm still tryna process this Alex Jeffrey Pretti thing... 37 years old, a nurse, just trying to do his job and witnesses some agents being extra with him... pepper spray, beat him up, force him onto his knees... that's not how you handle someone, fam.

And what really gets me is the Trump administration's support for this stuff. They're like "oh, yeah, our agents are just doing their job" but we all know that's a cop-out. The Fourth Amendment protection is basically meaningless if they can just barge in with an admin warrant... it's like, hello, we gotta have some boundaries here.

I'm not gonna sit here and say that immigration laws need to be tightened up or whatever, but come on, there's gotta be some accountability for these agents. They're like a special kind of law enforcement, one that's more concerned with intimidating people than actually helping anyone. It's just crazy.

I don't think this is a case of cops being out of control, I mean, they're just doing their job, you know? If someone's being all aggressive and breaking the law, it's only fair that they get a little roughed up, right? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, Pretti was basically taunting agents and trying to film them without permission, he's lucky he didn't get hurt more. And don't even get me started on the protesters, if you're going to stage a riot, you can't expect the cops to just sit back and let you do your thing. It's all about keeping people safe, you know? The Trump administration isn't backing down because they're trying to protect their citizens, not the agents' egos 🙅‍♂️.

Ugh 🤕 this stuff is just too much... I mean, a dude gets pepper-sprayed, beaten, and then shot by a Border Patrol agent? That's just crazy talk 😱. And it's not like he was even resisting arrest or anything - just observing what was going on. It's like these agents have no regard for human life whatsoever 💀.

And don't even get me started on the Trump admin's support for all this stuff 🤦‍♂️. I mean, I know they're trying to crack down on immigration and all, but come on - that's not how you do it! It's like they're more interested in showing off their "tough guy" credentials than actually keeping people safe 👊.

I'm seriously worried about the Fourth Amendment too 🤔. If ICE can just enter homes without a warrant now, what's to stop them from using that power to go after anyone they want? It's like they're above the law or something 😱.

We need to do better than this, you know? We need to stand up for our rights and demand some accountability from our leaders 🗣️. Can't we just have a civilized conversation about immigration without resorting to all this aggression and fear-mongering? 🤷‍♂️

omg this is sooo wrong 😱!! like what even is going on with these border patrol agents?!?! they're literally just being super aggressive and violent towards ppl who are just trying to live their lives 🤯 my aunt's friend was detained by ICE once and she said the officers were SO rude and unprofessional 🙄 anyway, i'm not surprised this happened since trump is all about cracking down on immigration 🚫 like, what even is the point of that?!?! we should be welcoming ppl with open arms, not treating them like criminals 👋

I'M FURIOUS ABOUT THIS STUFF GOING ON IN MINNEAPOLIS!!! IT'S LIKE THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION JUST GAVE THESE ICE AGENTS A GREEN LIGHT TO DO WHATEVER THEY WANT WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES! I MEAN, A FAMILY OF 8 GETS TEAR-GASSED WHILE JUST DRIVING HOME FROM A BASKETBALL GAME?! AND THEN THERE'S THIS LADY WHO GETS CALLED A DOMESTIC TERRORIST FOR JUST TRYING TO LEAVE THE SCENE? IT'S JUST WRONG!

AND NOW THEY'RE TELLING US THAT ICE CAN ENTER HOMES WITHOUT A JUDICIAL WARRANT? WHAT EVEN IS THAT?! IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF A BAD SCIENCE FICTION MOVIE! I'M SO TIRED OF THESE KINDS OF STORIES COMING OUT AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. WE NEED SOME REAL ACTION TAKEN HERE, NOT JUST EMPTY WORDS FROM THE MAYOR.

🚨 This is getting outta hand 🤯. I mean, what kind of "law enforcement" uses pepper spray on a 37-yr-old guy just for observing? And a registered nurse with a permit to carry a gun? What's next, gonna be like the cops from Minority Report? 😂 But seriously, this is all about profiling and racial bias 🕊️. It's like they're trying to recreate the worst of 1984 in the US. The Trump admin needs to get its act together and stop enabling these abusers 💔.

Wow 🤯 just reading about all this stuff is crazy! They got a nurse who was just minding his own bizs watching the cops do their thing and ends up dead 💀. And now there's like 8 people in one fam having their car tear gassed while they're just trying to get home 🚗😩. What's going on here? The government is supposed to protect us, not hurt us 😭.

Ugh 😱 I'm literally shook by this latest incident 🤯! Like, can't they just chill? 🙄 A guy gets pepper-sprayed and beaten just for watching?! That's not how you handle a situation, fam! 🤦‍♂️ And to make matters worse, the agents are using chemical crowd control like it's no big deal 🚫. I mean, we're already talking about human rights here 🙏. The Trump admin's support is just enabling this toxic behavior 🤥. It's like they're trying to create a sense of fear and intimidation 💔. This is straight outta Minority Report 🕰️ - not good vibes, fam! 😟

can u believe whats goin on in minneapolis?? a registered nurse was just shot by border patrol agent after bein pepper sprayed & beaten .. what even is goin on here? 🤯 it seems like these agents are more interested in makin their point than helpin people . i mean, the guy was just observin from afar , nothin crazy happenin , but still they decided to take action . and its not just this incident , there have been so many others where ice & cbp agents have been found guilty of abuse . how can u call urself a law enforcement agent if u r just gonna hurt ppl like that ? 🚔😡

I'm seriously shaken by this US citizen's tragic death 🤕... it's like, we're talking about a situation where this dude was just observing some agents' actions as a nurse with a permit to carry a gun, and they still go ahead and pepper-spray and beat him up. And then they shoot him when he's already on the ground? It's wild 🤯. The fact that these ICE agents are basically operating like an occupying force is super disturbing 😬. I mean, what happened to accountability? Where's the oversight? These incidents show a pattern of unchecked aggression and it's getting out of hand 💥. We need to hold our leaders accountable for this kind of behavior 🤝... it's not just about protecting human rights, it's also about upholding justice and dignity 👊

I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE THE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING IN MINNEAPOLIS RIGHT NOW 🤯!! IT'S LIKE ICE AND CBP AGENTS THINK THEY CAN JUST DO WHATEVER THEY WANT WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES 😡. I MEAN, COME ON, USING PEPPER SPRAY AND TEAR GAS ON INNOCENT PEOPLE? THAT'S NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT, THAT'S MILITARY TACTICS! 🚫.

AND IT GETS WORSE, THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION IS ACTUALLY BACKING THESE AGENTS UP 🤦‍♂️. I MEAN, WHO DESCRIES SOMEONE AS A "DOMESTIC TERRORIST" BASED ON VIDEO EVIDENCE THAT SUGGESTS OTHERWISE? 😱 IT'S LIKE THEY'RE TRYING TO COVER UP THE FACTS AND PROTECT THEIR OWN INTERESTS.

I KNOW SOME PEOPLE MIGHT SAY THAT THESE INCIDENTS ARE ISOLATED, BUT I THINK WE SHOULD BE BELIEVING ALL THE REPORTS, NOT JUST THE ONES THAT SUIT THE ADMINISTRATION'S AGENDA 📰. IT'S TIME FOR SOME REAL ACCOUNTABILITY HERE 👮‍♂️.

AND CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE FOURTH AMENDMENT AND HOW ICE IS TRYING TO BYPASS IT WITH THEIR NEW INTERNAL MEMO? 😬 THAT JUST SOUNDS LIKE A RECIPE FOR ABUSE OF POWER AND DISREGARD FOR CIVIL LIBERTIES.

omg this is so messed up 🤯 a registered nurse gets pepper-sprayed and beaten just for observing & now he's dead?!? the fact that the border patrol agent thought it was okay to shoot him in the head after that is just insane 😲 what kind of training do these people need?!?! it's like they're more concerned with showing off their power than actually keeping people safe 🤷‍♀️ and btw, this isn't an isolated incident at all... there are so many reports of abuse by ICE agents in Minneapolis and it's all being swept under the rug 💔

omg this is getting outta control 🤯!!! can't believe they're treating innocent people like that just cuz they're not US citizens 🙅‍♂️ alex was a nurse too who got pepper sprayed and beaten like an animal... what's next? are we gonna see a bunch of unarmed people gettin shot by cops in the street?? 🚨 it's all about power & control, not about keeping us safe 👮‍♂️ & can we please just get rid of trump already?! 😩

.. can't believe this stuff anymore 🤯. Like what's next? ICE agents showing up at my doorstep with a warrant for "being suspicious" 🚔👮‍♂️. And now they can just waltz in without a real warrant, thanks to that internal memo 📝... what's the point of even having a judicial system if it's just gonna be a suggestion? 💸 The Trump administration needs to take responsibility for this mess and stop enabling these agents to act like they're above the law 🚫. And Minneapolis Mayor Frey, I feel you, but your "more lives need to die" comment is pretty chilling 😷... hope no one has to go through what Alex Jeffrey Pretti's family is going through right now 💔.
