This Is Not the 'Talk to Me' Sequel We Had in Mind

A SPOOKY DETOUR: 'TALK TO ME' SERIES ADVENTURES INTO META'S EXTENDED REALITY

A few years ago, A24 greenlit a sequel to Danny and Michael Philippou's breakout horror hit 'Talk to Me'. Now, the Hollywood siblings are back with an unexpected expansion of their universe - but not in the way fans might have hoped. The brothers' latest project will be a series of six half-hour episodes created exclusively for Meta headsets, shot fully in 3D to create a fully immersive experience that will make horror fans feel like they're living out the terror.

The show's premise remains intact: a disembodied hand with supernatural powers can possess anyone who dares to grab hold of it. However, the new series takes a different approach by following "a group of young travelers chasing the ultimate party on a European island" until they stumble upon the Hand, a supernatural entity that's deadlier than any drug.

The Philippous are on board as executive producers, but a new creative team is guiding this Meta and XRTV collaboration. Darren Brandl came up with the concept with Trent Atherton, who wrote all six episodes, while Craig William Macneill (Castle Rock, Westworld) will direct. According to Brandl, 'Talk to Me' was an ideal project for extended reality because it allows the story to be mapped into viewers' own spaces, creating a sense of presence and awe.

While this new series promises to deliver an unsettling experience, fans may still hold out hope that a more accessible continuation of the story will make its way to theaters. In fact, when Danny Philippou spoke with the Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, he mentioned that 'Talk to Me 2' was initially greenlit but eventually got put on the backburner so they could focus on bringing back their previous project, 'Bring Her Back'.

The title for the 'Talk to Me' series remains under wraps, and no release date has been announced. For now, fans will have to wait and see if this Meta-exclusive adventure delivers the same thrills as the original 'Talk to Me'.

I'm low-key excited (πŸ€”) about this new direction for the 'Talk to Me' series, but also kinda disappointed πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I mean, who doesn't love a good horror show on Netflix or Hulu? But watching it on Meta headsets is just not what I'd call immersive... like, isn't that just playing games with VR tech? πŸ˜’ On the other hand, if the Philippous are really keen on pushing the boundaries of extended reality, maybe we'll get some fresh storytelling ideas that'll make us feel like we're living out the terror πŸŽƒ. The real question is, will this series bring back fans who were initially bummed when 'Talk to Me 2' got put on hold? And honestly, can you imagine watching an episode with a bunch of strangers in a VR headset... that's just some creepy stuff 😱

I'm not sure about this one πŸ€”... I mean, I love a good horror story, but an immersive experience on Meta headsets? It's definitely out of my comfort zone πŸ˜…. I'm all for exploring new ways to tell stories, but I hope they don't sacrifice too much in terms of storytelling and character development for the sake of tech πŸ€–. That being said, if it does deliver on the scares and the spooky atmosphere, I'd be down to check it out πŸ‘»... maybe after I've got my own VR headset, haha! πŸ˜‚

just watched that weird trailer and i'm lowkey hyped lol πŸ€”πŸ‘» think it's kinda genius that they're pushing the boundaries of horror in meta headset form, who needs theaters when you can have a good scare at home? 😱 but also gotta wonder if this is just a cash grab or if it's actually going to deliver on the eerie vibes πŸ’€ and what's up with no release date tho? either way, i'm kinda stoked to see where they take this twisted tale πŸŽƒ

OMG, can you even imagine getting possessed by a spooky hand while wearing a Meta headset πŸ€―πŸ‘»?! I'm low-key intrigued about this whole extended reality thing, especially since it's going to feel like you're inside the show. The new premise of a group of party-goers finding the Hand sounds kinda intense, but hey, that's what horror is all about, right? πŸ˜…

I'm still holding out hope for a more traditional theatrical release, though. I mean, who needs Meta headsets when you can have a cinema experience with a big screen and surround sound, amirite? πŸŽ₯ But, at the same time, I guess it's cool that they're pushing the boundaries of storytelling and immersive experiences.

Craig William Macneill directing Castle Rock and Westworld is like a dream come true for horror fans, so fingers crossed he brings his A-game to this new project. And, omigosh, Darren Brandl and Trent Atherton are killing it with their concept! πŸŽ‰ Can't wait to dive into these 6 episodes and see if they deliver the same thrills as the original 'Talk to Me' πŸ‘»πŸ‘

Wow 🀯 the idea of watching a horror show in 3D with meta headsets is actually kinda cool I guess Interesting how they're gonna map the story into viewers' own spaces, it's like having the terror come to you... will this be more of an experience or just a bunch of jump scares?

I'm low-key stoked about the new Meta exclusive 'Talk to Me' series 🀯... but let's be real, what's going on here? A24 was all about giving indie filmmakers a chance, and now they're just handing it over to some big players like Darren Brandl and Craig William Macneill? It feels like the whole thing is being watered down for the sake of exclusivity πŸ€”. I mean, can't we get a proper release on Netflix or somewhere else? This whole "extended reality" thing sounds like just a fancy way to make it harder for people to access the show. And what's up with all these different creative teams? It feels like they're trying to milk this franchise dry πŸ€‘... but hey, at least we'll get some sick 3D horror vibes out of it 😱

OMG u guys!!! 🀯 i cant even w8 for dis new series! its gonna be soooo immersive 😱 3D episodes on meta headsets? that sounds like a whole new level of scare fest πŸŽƒ!! i know some ppl might be disappointed cuz they wanna see it in theaters, but idc, extended reality is the future lol! πŸ€– cant wait to see what kinda terrors danny & michael have cooked up 4 us!!! πŸŽ¬πŸ‘»

omg i'm so hyped about this new "talk to me" series 🀯! i've never seen a horror show that incorporates meta's extended reality before, and the idea of immersing viewers into their own space sounds mind-blowing 🌐. but what i'm really curious about is how they're gonna make it work with 3d filming... will it be super realistic or more like a wild ride 😱? and can we get some answers on when the series is coming out? the more i think about it, the more excited i am πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

This is gonna sound crazy but I think its all connected... like Meta's getting into our heads, you feel? First they're making VR stuff and now a series that lets you experience terror in your own space. What if its not just horror games and shows but something more sinister? What if its all part of some experiment to manipulate our perceptions? And why did the Philippou brothers go with Meta over their original idea for 'Talk to Me 2'? Was it too mainstream? Too obvious? I'm low-key freaking out about this 🀯

im so down for a spooky detour πŸŽƒοΈ this meta exclusive deal is gonna be sick but i gotta wonder why they're not releasing it in theaters too? like, we've seen some cool extended reality stuff already but this one sounds like it's gonna take it to the next level. plus, what's up with danny philippou saying that 'talk to me 2' got put on the backburner lol, did they really think they could just ignore us fans for a minute? πŸ€” anyway, can't wait to see how this new series turns out, fingers crossed it delivers πŸ˜…

I'm so down for a spooky detour into extended reality! The idea of having a 3D immersive experience is wild 🀯. I love how the Philippou brothers are back on board, but it's cool that they're not holding out all their creative energy for the next film. This series has my interest piqued - who wouldn't want to be chased by a supernatural entity in a European island setting? 😏 The fact that it's being shot in 3D and will map itself into viewers' own spaces sounds like a total mind-bender 🧠. I'm curious to see how the new creative team brings this concept to life, especially with Craig William Macneill at the helm. Fingers crossed we get some more info on release dates soon - can't wait to find out if this series delivers the same scares as the original 'Talk to Me' πŸ˜ƒ

I'm not sure about this whole extended reality thing, you know? I mean, it's just a bunch of tech nonsense trying to scare us into spending more money on fancy headsets. The idea of watching a horror show that's literally mapped onto your own space sounds like a recipe for nightmares... or at least a really awkward viewing experience. And don't even get me started on the 3D thing - I'm not convinced it's worth the hassle of getting motion sickness just to watch some dudes running around in a European island setting πŸ€”πŸ‘». Can we just stick with good ol' fashioned movies and TV shows, you know?

I'm curious about this new direction the Philippou brothers are taking with their horror universe πŸ€”πŸ‘». I mean, who wouldn't want a 3D immersive experience on a headset? It's like they're blurring the lines between reality and terror 😱. The fact that it's exclusive to Meta headsets though makes me wonder if this is just another way for them to make money or if there's something special about extended reality πŸ€‘.

I love how Craig William Macneill is on board, directing Castle Rock and Westworld - that's some serious horror cred 😎. But at the same time, I'm a bit disappointed that 'Talk to Me 2' was put on the backburner πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Fans were probably itching for more of that creepy hand stuff πŸ’€.

This extended reality thing is definitely an interesting approach. It's like they're trying to create this whole new world and experience for us, but it's also kinda weird 😳. Can't wait to see how this all plays out πŸ“Ί

I'm low-key stoked about this new 'Talk to Me' series on Meta headsets πŸ€”. Extended reality is the future, and I think it's dope that they're pushing the boundaries of storytelling in this way. The concept is still creepy and unsettling, but now you'll be right there with those travelers, feeling like you're living out the horror πŸŽƒοΈ. I'm curious to see how the 3D visuals will enhance the experience – it sounds like a wild ride! Can't wait to dive in and see if this series delivers on the thrills πŸ˜….
