Thousands of supportive apartments sit empty in NYC as homeless die on the streets

Ugh, this is just so frustrating 🤯... I mean, come on, NYC, how can you claim to care about the homeless population when you're basically leaving them high and dry? Like, these 3,200 apartments are literally sitting empty while thousands of people are out there freezing their butts off on the streets. It's like, what even is the point of having a supportive housing program if it's just gonna sit vacant?

And don't even get me started on the bureaucratic red tape 📝... it's like, you've got these advocates and experts saying that this is an "acceptable" level of vacancy, but I'm not buying it. This is a crisis situation, people! We need to be doing everything in our power to fill those apartments ASAP.

I mean, I get it, there are proposals on the table to increase funding and streamline the application process... but is that really enough? Like, what's gonna happen when the temperatures drop even lower this winter? Are we just gonna sit back and watch people suffer?

This whole situation is just so emblematic of a bigger problem - our society's willingness to ignore the most vulnerable among us. It's like, we're all just going through the motions, pretending like everything is okay, while the real issue is just sitting there, festering away 🤕...

I'm literally shaking my head over this one 🤯... 3,200 units just sitting empty? Like, what's going on with that? I mean, I know the city's been struggling with homelessness and all, but come on! It's not like they're trying to help people out or anything. They've got all these apartments reserved for those in dire need, but nobody's actually using them? That's just messed up.

And don't even get me started on the bureaucratic red tape stuff. I mean, I know it's always easier to blame someone else when things don't work out, but come on! The city knows they need to fill these units ASAP. It's like they're just waiting for everything to magically fix itself or something.

I've seen so many posts from people living on the streets, freezing their tails off, and still no support in sight. It's heartbreaking. And all this while, there are thousands of empty apartments just sitting there? Like, what a waste.
