Ticket touts' worst nightmare has finally come true in the UK

UK Lawmakers Finally Crack Down on Ticket Touts Amidst Widespread Public Outrage

In a move long overdue, the UK government has announced plans to ban reselling tickets above face value, effectively putting an end to the lucrative but exploitative ticket touting industry that has plagued fans for over a decade. The decision comes after years of lobbying by music industry groups, consumer champions, and MPs who have pushed for stronger regulations on ticket resale.

Critics argue that the current system allows unscrupulous individuals to buy tickets at face value only to resell them online for inflated prices, leaving many fans unable to afford to attend events like concerts or sports matches. The issue has sparked a heated debate, with some arguing that banning touting would not only protect consumers but also reduce the risk of scams and fraud.

According to government estimates, the new legislation could save consumers up to £112m annually by preventing price gouging on ticket resale platforms. However, critics have raised concerns about potential loopholes that could allow the industry to adapt and continue exploiting fans. The Competition and Markets Authority will be tasked with monitoring sites and imposing penalties of up to 10% of turnover, which could potentially devastate the business model of companies like Viagogo.

As the ban takes effect, many in the ticketing industry are bracing themselves for a major shake-up. Sites such as Twickets, which offer a service-free alternative to traditional resale platforms, may struggle to maintain revenue streams. Meanwhile, some have warned that consumers could turn to illicit marketplaces or outright fraudsters if legitimate options disappear.

While fans will likely breathe a sigh of relief knowing they are no longer being ripped off by touts, the long-term impact on the ticketing industry remains uncertain. One thing is clear: the UK government has finally taken action to protect its consumers and restore fairness in the ticket resale market.

I don’t usually comment but it’s bloody about time something was done about those ticket touts 🤯. I mean, who hasn’t been there, trying to buy tickets for a concert or match only to be scammed out of their hard-earned cash? It’s just not right and now the UK government has finally stepped in to put a stop to it.

I'm all for banning reselling above face value – it's about time those companies like Viagogo were held accountable for their actions 💸. And I have to agree with the estimates that this could save consumers up to £112m annually, that's some serious cash back into people's pockets.

But I do worry about what might happen to sites like Twickets, which offer a fairer alternative – will they struggle to survive? 🤔 Only time will tell, but for now, it's a huge win for fans everywhere 👏.

just heard about this new ban in the uk on ticket touting 🤑 and gotta say, it's a bit late to the party... like, how many fans got ripped off by touts over the years? £112m isn't even a drop in the ocean considering all the people who were scammed out of their money. and what about all those sites like viagogo that are already struggling? this ban is more like a slap on the wrist 🤣

idk about this new ban, seems like a good start but what about all the grey areas they're gonna leave open? like, what if someone's just trying to recoup losses on a failing business? or what about those legit ticketing sites that already have rules in place? might just get slammed by the Competition authority lol...

FINALLY!!! THE GOVT HAS DECIDED TO TAKE A STAND AGAINST THOSE ROYAL PAINSTAKERS IN TICKET TOUTING LAND!!! ITS ABOUT TIME THEY PUT AN END TO THIS EXPLOITATIVE INDUSTRY THATS BEEN RIPPING OFF FANS FOR YEARS!!! I MEAN WHO DOESNT WANT TO SEE CONSUMERS BE ABLE TO BUY TICKETS AT FACE VALUE WITHOUT BEING ROBBED BY THOSE UNscrupulous INDIVIDUALS!!! ITS ABOUT TIME WE SAW SOME REAL CHANGE IN THIS DEBACLE!!!

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s about time something was done about those ticket touts who just rip people off. They always seem to be making a killing online while normal fans are left stuck with inflated prices. The thought of saving £112m annually for consumers is massive, and it's crazy that it's taken so long for the government to crack down on this industry.

I'm not sure what will happen to the ticketing sites now, but if they don't adapt, it could be a disaster for them. Maybe some new companies will come in and offer fairer prices or better services? It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out 🤑

🤔 I mean come on, about time right? These ticket touts are just disgusting, always ripping people off. £112m a year is just peanuts compared to what they're making from all this nonsense. I'm not saying it's gonna be easy for the industry but at least we can finally get some sense in there. Twickets is a great example of how there should be more services like that, no middlemen means less profit for the touts. And yeah, there'll be people going to those dodgy marketplaces and who knows what kind of scams they'll get into? Hopefully, it's not too big of a hit but I'm just glad we're taking steps towards fairness here 👍

🤪 Finally! About bloody time those lot cracked down on ticket touts. I mean, who needs a good price for a ticket when you can just rip someone off and make a quid? 🤑 It's about time the gov decided to step in and put a stop to this nonsense. Now, let's see if they've got the guts to actually enforce it 🤔. Those touts have been taking advantage of people for ages, so it's good to see some justice finally being served 💪.

The £112m figure is mental – that's like, a small country's worth of dodgy ticket sales 🤯. And yeah, I can see why they're worried about loopholes and whatnot. It's not like the gov hasn't got better things to do than babysit the whole ticketing industry 😒.

I'm curious to see how this plays out in practice. Will Twickets and the likes be able to adapt and stay afloat? Or will we all just end up buying from dodgy sellers on the dark web 🤫? Only time will tell, but for now, let's just enjoy not being ripped off by touts 😊.

🤔 I was just thinking about how much I love trying out new food trucks at music festivals 🍴, you know? And it's crazy how some people will pay like 3x more for a overpriced burger just because it's from a "famous" chef 🤷‍♀️. Meanwhile, those touts are making bank off normal fans who can't even get tickets at face value 😔. Guess that's why the government is cracking down on them now 👮‍♂️...
