TikTok announces it has finalized deal to establish US entity, sidestepping ban

TikTok has finally sidestepped the ban imposed by the US government with the establishment of a new entity in the country. The Chinese-owned social media giant announced on Thursday that it had finalized a deal to set up a majority American-owned venture, marking the end of a long and contentious legal battle.

Under the agreement, ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, will retain 19.9% ownership, while investors including Larry Ellison's Oracle, private-equity firm Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX will own 80.1%. The new entity is expected to be led by Adam Presser, who previously served as TikTok's general manager.

The deal comes five years after former US President Donald Trump first threatened to ban the platform in the country during his first term. Despite repeated delays, the threat of a ban had caused widespread concern among influencers and creators who rely on TikTok for their livelihoods.

The new entity will operate under defined safeguards to protect national security, including comprehensive data protections, algorithm security, content moderation, and software assurances for US users. The content recommendation algorithm will be retrained using US user data to ensure it is free from outside manipulation.

The agreement was approved by both the Chinese and US governments, with a White House official confirming that they had signed off on the deal. Former President Trump even took to social media to express his satisfaction with the outcome, thanking China's president for "working with us" and approving the Deal.

The news has been met with relief from TikTok users in the US, who can now look forward to continuing to use the platform without fear of a ban. However, concerns about user data security remain, with some lawmakers and officials still expressing concerns that the Chinese government could use TikTok to harvest data from American users.

I'm glad TikTok's finally got this deal done, ๐Ÿคž but I gotta say, 19.9% ownership is a bit sketchy for me... I mean, don't get me wrong, Adam Presser seems like a solid lead and all, but still, ByteDance's got a pretty big stake in the new entity. What if they're not as transparent about user data as they claim? ๐Ÿค” And what about those concerns from lawmakers about the Chinese gov getting access to our personal info? Can't say I'm fully convinced that these safeguards are gonna hold up...

I'm curious how people feel about this deal... ๐Ÿค” is it a huge relief or are you still worried about your personal info on TikTok? ๐Ÿ’ก Do you think 19.9% is a reasonable amount of ownership for ByteDance considering the risks and benefits, or should they have given up more control? ๐Ÿค‘ What's the biggest takeaway from this deal - that the government won't ban TikTok or just another PR win for China? ๐Ÿ“Š

๐Ÿค” finally!! it's about time tiktok got its act together... like, who needs a ban in the first place? ๐Ÿ™„ five years of drama and stress for all those creators who rely on them for their income... glad they're getting some breathing room. 19.9% ownership is still pretty sketchy tho ๐Ÿ˜ฌ gotta trust that this new entity has got everything under control when it comes to data security... i mean, we've seen what happens when china gets involved in the US ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿ™ so finally we got this news and it's a huge relief for all those creators who rely on TikTok. 19.9% ownership is still a lot of control for ByteDance, but I guess it's better than having no control at all ๐Ÿค”. The safeguards put in place are definitely a good step forward, especially with the algorithm being retrained using US user data. Still not convinced about the Chinese government's motives though ๐Ÿ˜’. How can we really know they're not just playing us?

OMG, like I was so worried about TikTok being banned in the US ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿ‘€! But now it seems like they've found a way to make it work without compromising on user security ๐Ÿ’ป. I'm actually kinda relieved that creators who rely on TikTok for their livelihoods can continue using it without worrying about losing their content or accounts ๐Ÿ“ˆ. It's still a bit weird that they have to give up some control to American investors, but I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles ๐Ÿช. Can't wait to see how this new entity plays out and if they're able to really protect user data from any potential security threats ๐Ÿ”’. Fingers crossed!

๐Ÿ™Œ finally some good news for the creators out there who were stressing over this whole tiktok ban thing ๐Ÿคฏ, i mean 5 years is a loooong time to be waiting on this, but it's awesome that they've found a way to make it work without compromising US user data security ๐Ÿ˜Š. 19.9% chinese ownership might sound like a lot, but hey at least the us gov has their backs now ๐Ÿ™, and i'm glad former president trump is happy with the outcome too...although we all know he's been all over the place on this topic ๐Ÿ˜‚. anyway, let's just be grateful that tiktok can continue to be a creative outlet for so many people in the us without fear of being banned ๐Ÿ’•

Just got the news about TikTok finally getting its footing in the US ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘. I remember back in 2020 when all this drama went down and everyone was freaking out about a ban ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. Five years is a looong time, but it's good to see them get it sorted out with that new entity thingy. The fact that Adam Presser is leading the charge is cool, he seems like a reliable dude ๐Ÿ’ฏ.

I'm glad some of those influencers and creators can finally breathe a sigh of relief ๐Ÿ˜Œ. But at the same time, I do worry about all the safeguards they're putting in place for data protection ๐Ÿค”. We gotta make sure our personal info stays safe online, you know? And even though it's good that the Chinese and US governments are on board with this deal ๐Ÿ™, some lawmakers still seem a bit sketchy... but we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out ๐Ÿ”ฎ.

๐Ÿค” I gotta say, this whole situation has been quite the rollercoaster for TikTok users in the US! But you know what's even wilder? The fact that we can all breathe a sigh of relief and continue using our favorite app without fear of a ban is actually a reminder to appreciate the complexities of life. We often get caught up in the chaos of politics and international relations, but at the end of the day, it's the little things โ€“ like being able to use social media without worrying about our data being compromised โ€“ that bring us joy.

The deal might have been five years in the making, but what really matters is how we can learn from this experience. We should be grateful for the safeguards that are in place to protect user security and encourage transparency from governments and corporations alike. And let's not forget, even when things seem uncertain or scary, it's always good to look on the bright side โ€“ after all, a ban would've been a total disaster for creators and influencers! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿ™ finally! i've been following this for ages and it's good to hear tiktok is back in the us. but gotta say, 19.9% ownership by byte dance feels kinda low considering how much they're making off our creators ๐Ÿค‘. also not sure if this new entity will really make a difference in terms of data security... still some concerns about china using it for their own gain ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ป

Ugh, I'm so over this whole situation ๐Ÿ™„. I mean, can't they just get it together? Five years of drama and tension, just to have a watered-down version of TikTok come along. And what's with the 19.9% ownership stake for ByteDance? It's like they're trying to straddle the fence here ๐Ÿค”. I still don't trust our government when it comes to regulating this kind of thing - all these safeguards sound like a bunch of hooey ๐Ÿ™ƒ. And what about the data security concerns? Can we really be sure that our personal info is safe with Chinese hands involved? ๐Ÿšจ

OMG you guys! ๐Ÿคฉ finally a solution for all us TikTok lovers out there in the US ๐Ÿ˜… so I'm glad they found a way to work it out without literally banning the app, can u imagine? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™€๏ธ and 80.1% of ownership from American investors like Larry Ellison's Oracle is pretty cool, gives me hope that they'll keep us safe while still being chill about user data ๐Ÿค”

But let's be real though, we're still talking about the Chinese government's involvement here... ๐Ÿค” I mean, what if they're just trying to get a foothold in US users' info? ๐Ÿšจ like, can we really trust that all those safeguards will actually work? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ idk, maybe I'm being paranoid ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I don't usually comment but I'm kinda glad they were able to work out this deal ๐Ÿ™. It's crazy how long it took for them to figure something out, especially with all the drama from Trump ๐Ÿ˜‚. Now we can just hope that this new entity does a better job of protecting user data and whatnot... I mean, I get that China's got some concerns about security too, but let's not forget who owns this thing - 80.1% is held by pretty major players ๐Ÿค‘. Still, it's nice to have TikTok back in the US without all the fuss ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Dude I'm so glad this is finally over! ๐Ÿ™Œ The US gov has been all over TikTok's back for years, but now they've found a way to work it out with China and keep the app around. It's good that they're setting up this new entity with some legit safeguards in place, like data protection and algorithm security. That's gonna give users some peace of mind, right? ๐Ÿคž Still, I know some people are worried about the Chinese gov being able to siphon off US user data... we'll just have to keep an eye on it, ya know? ๐Ÿ“Š

๐Ÿค” I'm kinda relieved this deal went through but also think we should be cautious ๐Ÿšจ. The fact that ByteDance still owns 19.9% of the new entity makes me a bit uneasy ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. What's to stop them from using US user data for other purposes? ๐Ÿค I guess only time will tell if this new setup is genuinely about protecting national security or just about keeping TikTok alive ๐Ÿ’ฐ. Can't wait to see how it all plays out! ๐Ÿ‘€

So it looks like TikTok has dodged the US government's bullet this time. I'm not gonna lie, it's a bit concerning that they had to essentially create a new entity with a majority American owner to avoid getting banned. But at least now users in the US won't have to worry about their fave platform being taken away from them ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Still, gotta wonder what made the Chinese government and US officials think this was a good idea ๐Ÿค”? I mean, we all know that user data security is super important, but some of these lawmakers and officials are still acting like they're gonna somehow protect us from our own phone apps ๐Ÿ™„. Can't help but feel like there's still more to this story than what we're being told... ๐Ÿค

I'm glad this is finally over ๐Ÿ™Œ, but I gotta wonder why it took so long for the US gov to come around ๐Ÿ’ก. Five years of back-and-forth with former President Trump is a lot to handle ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And now that the deal's been finalized, there are still some lingering concerns about data security ๐Ÿ”’ - how can we be sure our info won't be shared with the Chinese government? ๐Ÿค”

I gotta say, this is like the ultimate 'good news-bad news' situation ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฌ. On one hand, it's awesome that TikTok has dodged the bullet (or should I say, the ban) and can finally operate freely in the US without some politician breathing down its neck ๐Ÿ™. And kudos to the Chinese and US governments for putting their differences aside and coming to a mutually beneficial agreement ๐Ÿค.

But at the same time, I'm still kinda skeptical about all this ๐Ÿค”. I mean, 19.9% Chinese ownership is still a pretty big chunk ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. What's gonna happen if ByteDance ever decides to shift gears and prioritize its Chinese interests over US users' data security? And don't even get me started on the whole 'safeguards' thing ๐Ÿšซ - how can we really trust that these measures will be effective in keeping our personal info safe from prying eyes ๐Ÿ‘€?

All I know is that, for now, the cat's out of the bag (or should I say, TikTok's out of the ban) and users can breathe a sigh of relief ๐Ÿ˜Œ. But let's not forget to keep an eye on this situation and make sure our voices are heard if things start to go haywire ๐Ÿ’ช!
