Trump continues to rail against Ilhan Omar after Minneapolis town hall attack – live

US President Donald Trump continues to criticize Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, just days after she was targeted with a chemical spray attack at a town hall event in Minneapolis. Trump's comments have sparked widespread condemnation from lawmakers and public figures across the US.

In an interview with ABC on Tuesday, Trump stated that he does not "think about" Omar, describing her as a "fraud". He added that if someone knew her well enough to commit such an act, it is likely they were involved in it themselves. These comments have been widely criticized by lawmakers from both parties.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Trump's remarks "disgusting", stating that the President's lies and misinformation continue to fan the flames of violent incidents like the one against Omar. Omar herself was unharmed in the attack, but her safety was a major concern for many after the incident.

Several lawmakers have spoken out against the attack on Omar, with Representative Angie Craig from Minnesota expressing relief that she is safe. The Representative also called for an end to the rise of political violence in their state.

Other politicians, including Representatives Greg Landsman from Ohio and Nancy Mace from South Carolina, have condemned the attack and criticized Trump's rhetoric. In a post on Truth Social, Trump warned Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey against changing his city's sanctuary policies, stating that such actions would be "a very serious violation of the Law".

Trump has also made headlines with comments about Iran, stating that a "massive armada" is heading to the country and is prepared for combat. This comes after President Abbas Araghchi told state media in Iran that he had not been in contact with US envoy Steve Witkoff.

The man accused of attacking Omar, Anthony James Kazmierczak, has a history of sharing extremist views on social media. According to CNN, he shared a cartoon criticizing Omar's stance on security spending and reposted transphobic content from conservative commentator Ben Shapiro.

Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian government has issued a formal protest note to US authorities after an ICE agent attempted to enter their Minneapolis consulate without permission. The incident highlights concerns about immigration enforcement and its impact on international relations.

Omar herself took to social media to thank her constituents for rallying behind her following the attack, stating that she does not let bullies win.

I'm so worried about Ilhan Omar's safety after that crazy attack 🤕🇺🇸 I mean, who does something like that? It's completely unacceptable and it's not okay to target someone just because of their politics or who they are 🌎💖 Trump's comments are just adding fuel to the fire, in my opinion... he needs to stop talking and let people be 👊 Anyway, it's amazing how his words can inspire violence and I hope people will take a closer look at what he's saying before jumping to conclusions 💡

Ugh, I'm so done with Trump's antics 🙄! Like, what is he even thinking? He's basically saying that Omar must've been involved in the attack because someone knew her well enough to do it... talk about a massive conspiracy theory 🤯! And now he's trying to stir up more violence by threatening Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over sanctuary policies? It's just getting out of hand 😩. The fact that someone actually carried out this attack is already horrific, and Trump's words are just fueling the fire 🔥. I mean, can't he just stop? 🤷‍♀️

I'm getting worried about Trump's words 🤯, they're spreading hate & fueling violence, it's disgusting! He's always talking trash but never backing up with facts 💔. Omar's safety is a top priority and we should be focusing on stopping attacks like the one she faced, not making baseless claims about her being a "fraud" 🙅‍♂️. We need to stand together against extremism & support our leaders who care about people's lives ❤️.

Man, this is just getting crazy 🤯. Trump's still spewing hate speech like it's nobody's business, and now he's basically saying if you know Omar well enough to try to hurt her, you're probably involved in the act itself... that's some messed up thinking right there 😒. And can we talk about how his comments are just fueling the fire? I mean, we had a chemical attack on her already, and now he's got the nerve to question her integrity 🤷‍♀️. It's like, dude, you're not even trying to hide your bias anymore 🙄. And what really gets my goat is that this kind of rhetoric is exactly what people like Kazmierczak are responding to - it's a toxic cycle and we need to break it ASAP 💥.

come on trump's a real life govt drama queen 😂🤦‍♂️ he can't even leave omar alone after what happened to her in minneapolis. like, if someone tried to hurt you wouldnt you wanna know who they are and stop them? instead hes just makin some wild claims that are straight up lies 🙄. i get that omar's a controversial figure but so is trump. why the double standard? 🤔

🚨 just checked out some stats on hate crimes in the US and it's crazy... 2020 saw a 21% increase in hate crimes targeting Muslims and Jews alone 🤯! And since Trump's presidency, there's been a 25% rise in anti-Muslim rhetoric 📈. Can we really say that's just a coincidence? 🤔

also did some digging on FBI data and found that between 2019-2022, there were over 150 domestic terrorism incidents involving white supremacist groups 🚨. Meanwhile, the number of hate crimes against Black people has risen by 35% since 2017 📊.

can we really say Trump's rhetoric is just "talking tough" when it comes to extremism? I think we need to take a closer look at how his words are being received and used as fuel for real-life violence 💡
