Trump to send top envoy to Russia in push to finalise Ukraine plan

US President Donald Trump announced plans to send his top envoy to Russia in a bid to finalize a peace plan for Ukraine. The move comes after US and Ukrainian negotiators met in Geneva, where they discussed Trump's initial peace plan, which was seen as a Russian wish list.

According to Ukraine, the essence of the US plan is supported, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying that Kyiv is ready to "move forward" with an unpublished framework. However, Zelenskyy still needs to address sensitive points. Andriy Yermak, his chief of staff, described the security guarantees Ukraine was seeking as "very solid".

Trump claimed progress in securing a deal and said he would send envoy Steve Witkoff to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to iron out differences. However, Russia remains unconvinced, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warning that any modifications to the plan should reflect the spirit and letter of an understanding reached between Trump and Putin at their Alaska summit.

The US and its European allies have proposed a modified plan, which would accommodate concerns from Ukraine and its allies. The Russian side is unhappy about revisions, particularly the inclusion of provisions allowing Kyiv to join NATO.

Despite disagreements, talks are ongoing, with White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying that "a few delicate" details need to be sorted out. However, it's unclear when those talks will happen and what they will look like.

In a related development, French President Emmanuel Macron urged pressure on Putin to negotiate. A task force between the US and coalition countries has been set up to solidify security guarantees for Ukraine.

So, Trump thinks he can just send his buddy Steve Witkoff over to Moscow to "iron out differences" 🤷‍♂️ like it's a game of chess or something? And Russia is all, "Uh, no thanks, we're good." Meanwhile, Zelenskyy is over here being all diplomatic and stuff, trying to make the US plan work. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Ukraine wanting to join NATO and just be safe for once 🙄. And Macron's like the grown-up in the room, pushing Putin to actually negotiate instead of just winging it... but let's see how that plays out 😏.

I gotta say, this whole Ukraine thing is getting more complicated by the day 🤯. I mean, one minute Trump's got a plan, the next it's Russia's wish list... what's going on over there? 😒. And now they're talking about modifying the plan to include NATO membership for Ukraine - that's like throwing a grenade into the conversation. I don't get why Russia is being so stubborn about this, can't they just work out their differences and move forward? 🤔

And what's up with Macron trying to put some pressure on Putin? Like, we need more of that kind of thing in these kinds of situations ⚠️. The US and its allies are setting up a task force to solidify security guarantees for Ukraine... fingers crossed that actually makes a difference.

It feels like this whole thing is just dragging out - when do they actually start talking and sorting things out? I'm not getting my hopes up, but at the same time... maybe there's still a glimmer of hope 💡.

🤔 so Trump thinks he can just send some dude over to Moscow to smooth things out? 🤷‍♂️ Russia's not having it, and who can blame them? I mean, Putin knows how the game is played. The fact that Ukraine is willing to move forward with an unpublished framework is interesting, but what's the catch? Is there more to this plan than meets the eye? 🤐 And what about these security guarantees? Are they just a bunch of empty promises or are they actually going to make a difference? 💡

🤔 This is all so complicated... I mean, it's great that the US is trying to finalize a peace plan for Ukraine, but at the same time, we've got Russia being super resistant to changing their own terms. Like, can't they just meet us halfway? 🤷‍♀️ And what's with the whole NATO thing? It feels like everyone's trying to push Ukraine into this big box and it's not fair.

I'm also a bit concerned about Steve Witkoff going over there to negotiate. I mean, he's Trump's top envoy, so is that a good idea? Shouldn't we have someone else do it? 🤔 And what about the French president saying we need to pressure Putin to negotiate? That feels like just another way of putting pressure on Russia without actually solving anything.

It's all very delicate and needs to be sorted out carefully. I hope they can find a way to work things out before too much time passes...

🤔 This whole thing feels like a game of chess where everyone's still trying to figure out each other's moves. The US is pushing hard to get something done, but Russia's not budging on certain points 🚫. I'm wondering if they're just stalling to see how much pressure they can put on Ukraine before things escalate.

It's also interesting that Trump's envoy is going straight to Putin without consulting the Ukrainians more directly 🤝. Are they trying to bypass Ukrainian concerns altogether? And what exactly do these security guarantees entail? It feels like we're missing some crucial pieces of information here ⚠️.

🤔 so I don't really get why Trump is trying to finalize this peace plan with Russia after they said it was a Russian wish list... like isn't that kinda backwards? 🤑 shouldn't they be pushing for the things that matter to Ukraine first? 😕 and what's up with all these revisions and negotiations? can we just get some clarity on what's gonna happen next? 💡

umm so like i'm trying to understand this whole deal... if trump's plan is basically russia's wish list then how can ukraine agree to it? 🤔 and what does that even mean by "spirit and letter" of the agreement from alaska summit? are we just talking about semantics here or is there something specific that Russia is hangin out on? 😕 also i dont get why france is suddenly all like "hey put some pressure on russia to negotiate"... isnt france already, like, allied with russia or somethin' 🤷‍♀️

I don’t usually comment but... I'm kinda curious about this whole peace plan thingy 🤔. Like, Trump's trying to send his top envoy to Russia which is pretty bold move considering how things have gone down between the two countries in the past. And Ukraine seems kinda cool with it at first, but now there's all these grey areas like what exactly Russia wants and doesn't want from the plan 🤷‍♂️.

I think it's interesting that both sides are still negotiating and trying to find common ground. I mean, we've got France getting involved too which is nice 🇫🇷. It'll be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out and whether they can actually hammer out a deal without anyone losing face 💪. One thing's for sure, it's not gonna be easy 😬
