TV tonight: David Olusoga's epic series about the British empire

A gripping night of TV awaits viewers tonight, with a mix of epic drama and thought-provoking documentaries.

David Olusoga's BBC Two series "Empire" takes us on an unsettling journey into the heart of the British Empire's dark legacy. In the latest installment, Olusoga visits Bunce Island, where enslaved Africans were sold, shedding light on the brutal practices that led to the transatlantic slave trade. The series continues its exploration of the empire's influence, with the fallout of the American Revolution taking viewers to Australia, where they'll encounter the tragic story of Truganini, a Tasmanian Aboriginal woman who suffered at the hands of colonialists.

In contrast, Sara Cox will be celebrating Children in Need 2025 on BBC One. The charity event features a range of entertainment, including a heartfelt performance by a children's choir and presenters Big Zuu and Paddy McGuinness. Meanwhile, Krishnan Guru-Murthy tackles the grim issue of Arab citizens being murdered in Israel, highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability.

If you're looking for some light entertainment, Sky Max has "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" airing at 9pm. The zombie spinoff is known for its action-packed episodes, and tonight's installment promises to deliver an epic medieval battle as Daryl and Carol face off against a horde of marauders.

For those looking for something more cerebral, Sky Atlantic has "All Her Fault" starring Dakota Fanning. The film follows the story of Marissa, whose nanny kidnaps her son, sparking a media frenzy and raising questions about the nature of truth and friendship.

In other news, Bong Joon-ho's follow-up to Parasite is another sharp comedy set in space, "Mickey 17", which stars Robert Pattinson as an expendable being who puts a spanner in the works when he encounters new life forms. Apple TV has a documentary titled "Come See Me in the Good Light" about performance poet Andrea Gibson's struggles with ovarian cancer. Finally, Dolores Fonzi's film "Belén" tells the true story of a young woman who fought for her reproductive rights after being wrongly convicted of homicide.

Last but not least, Sky Cinema Premiere has Bong Joon-ho's new comedy Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson as an expendable being.

Meh, another bunch of TV shows that'll keep me up all night 🤯... I mean, David Olusoga's "Empire" series is kinda heavy, you feel? It's like, we should be proud of our history and learn from it, but instead we're still dealing with the fallout. And Sara Cox's Children in Need special sounds nice, I guess 🎉... but let's be real, who doesn't love a good zombie battle every now and then? 💀 "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" is gonna be lit tonight! As for "All Her Fault", I'm intrigued by that whole nanny kidnapping thing... it sounds like a wild ride. And Bong Joon-ho's space comedy, "Mickey 17", has me curious 🚀. But what's up with all these stories about people fighting for their rights? It feels like we're still having this conversation, you know? 🤷‍♀️

omg i am SO stoked for Empire tonight!!! David Olusoga is literally the best historian ever and i've been following this series from day one 🤩👀 bunce island is like, super creepy and i need to know more about it ASAP 💁‍♀️ sarah cox is also amazing with Children in Need and i love Big Zuu's energy 😂 but idk what's up with Krishnan Guru-Murthy's doco... seems kinda heavy 🤕 anyway, can't wait for Daryl Dixon's epic battle tonight! 👊 and "All Her Fault" has Dakota Fanning in it? 🙌 gotta watch that ASAP 💖

I'm so done with all these documentary specials tonight 🙄. Can't they just make something fun for once? I mean, I know it's "Children in Need" and all that, but come on, a whole night of heavy stuff? 😩 I need some zombie-killing action or at least a comedy to take my mind off the world problems we're dealing with 🤣. And don't even get me started on the ones about slavery and abuse... it's just too much to handle sometimes 💔. Give me a break, can't they find something else to talk about for once? 😒

omg i'm literally so done with the brits and their colonial past like how can you even celebrate empire day without acknowledging the trauma and bloodshed that went into building it? david olusoga is trying to shed light on this but idk if it's enough 🤯 i feel like we need more than just documentaries to make things right, we need real change 💪 meanwhile, I'm super hyped for Sara Cox's Children in Need event - I've been supporting this charity since I was a kid and it's always such a magical night 🎉 the entertainment lineup sounds amazing, especially that children's choir performance 🎶

I'm so hyped for tonight's TV lineup! 🤩 I've been waiting for "Empire" to drop and it looks like David Olusoga is taking us on a wild ride through the dark history of the British Empire. The way he sheds light on Bunce Island and the transatlantic slave trade is really thought-provoking, you feel? 😊 And of course, who can resist a good zombie battle? 🧟‍♂️ "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" is always a guilty pleasure for me! 💥 I'm also super excited to see "All Her Fault" on Sky Atlantic - Dakota Fanning is an amazing actress and I've heard great things about this film. And have you seen any of Bong Joon-ho's other movies? He's like the king of thought-provoking comedies, don't you think? 😂
