Two million energy customers are due £240m from old accounts, says Ofgem

🤔 I think this is crazy, right? People are missing out on £240m worth of refunds just because energy suppliers didn't get their contact info straight after closing old accounts. It's like they just gave up trying to help customers.

And now with energy bills going up and people struggling to pay, it's even more frustrating that there's this big chunk of money just sitting there waiting for people to claim it. I mean, £1,200 or £2,400 is a decent chunk of change, especially when you're already stressed about how to afford your heat.

Ofgem's plan to help out 195,000 people on means-tested benefits is a good start, but it's clear that more needs to be done to tackle the bigger issue. The debt crisis is still pretty dire and I worry that this just scratches the surface of what needs to happen.

£240m unclaimed credit balances? Like, I had an old laptop with some leftover gift cards and totally forgot about it 🤑 I mean, who's keeping track of that stuff? It's not like you just gotta put a sticky note on your wall or something... My aunt used to do that kind of thing all the time, but now she's all digital and organized (or so she claims). Maybe Ofgem should send out some reminders or something? I know it'd be annoying if they did, but think about all those people who just aren't thinking about their old accounts... Anyway, hope everyone gets their refund! 🤞

🤔 I mean, come on, £240m unclaimed credit balances? That's like finding out you owe your old flatmate £5 and they've been holding onto it for years... what's going on here? 🙄 It's not just about the money; it's about accountability. Suppliers should be doing their job to contact customers after account closure. This is a clear case of neglect, if you ask me.

And now, with energy bills rising, households are already struggling. You've got people who can't afford to pay their electricity and gas bills on top of this? It's like the government is just kicking the can down the road... I don't think this £500m debt relief scheme will make a dent in the problem either. We need systemic changes, not just Band-Aid solutions. 💸

Ugh, like seriously? So basically they're telling people who already struggling with sky-high energy bills now have to worry about not getting back some cash from years ago because no one bothered to tell them their old account was closed... 🤯 £240m just sitting there collecting dust. And now the government's all like "oh, we're gonna help you out with debt relief" but it's only a drop in the ocean when you look at how massive the energy debt crisis is. It's not like this is going to make a huge difference or anything... 🤑

🤔 I'm not surprised that so many UK households are missing out on this £240m credit. It's crazy how often people move and forget about old accounts 🏠👋. The fact that suppliers aren't even sending reminders is a bigger issue, it's like they're leaving people to fend for themselves 💸.

It's good that Ofgem is trying to help, but £500m isn't going to make a huge dent in the overall energy debt crisis 🤦‍♀️. I mean, £4.4bn is still a massive amount of unpaid bills. We need more than just a few hundred thousand pounds' worth of debt relief to tackle this problem.

What's worrying me is that more and more people are struggling to pay their energy bills, especially with the price cap rising 🚨. It's not fair that some households can't even afford to heat their homes in winter. We need some real solutions to this issue, like making it easier for suppliers to contact customers or providing more support for those who are struggling 💡.
