US men indicted for alleged coup plot to kill and rape people on Haitian island

Two US men have been indicted for allegedly plotting a coup d'etat on the Haitian island of Gonâve, with the intention of committing atrocities including murder, rape, and slavery. Gavin Rivers Weisenburg, 21, and Tanner Christopher Thomas, 20, from Texas, are accused of orchestrating a plan to take control of the island, which is home to around 85,000 to 100,000 inhabitants.

According to federal prosecutors, the men's scheme involved recruiting homeless individuals from Washington D.C. to join their cause, before allegedly killing all the male population and using the women and children as sex slaves. The pair even went so far as to acquire Haitian Creole language skills and began training people on the island for the invasion.

Thomas had previously joined the US air force with the intention of acquiring military skills relevant to the plot, while Weisenburg was arrested in July after reportedly traveling to Thailand to learn how to sail. The men's alleged plan also included purchasing a boat, weapons, and ammunition, as well as enrolling in specific training schools.

The duo is charged with federal conspiracy to murder, maim or kidnap in a foreign country, which carries a life sentence if convicted. Additionally, they face charges of producing child pornography, which could land them behind bars for between 15 and 30 years.

The motivations behind the men's targeting of Gonâve remain unclear, although it is believed that their plan was driven by twisted desires related to rape fantasies. The island's lack of judicial infrastructure and its remote location may have contributed to the perceived ease of executing such a heinous plot.

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, US air force office of special investigations, and local police, worked jointly to bring the pair to justice. The case has raised concerns about the vulnerability of Haiti's island communities to external threats, particularly in light of existing reports highlighting the country's struggles with crime and infrastructure challenges.

Wow 🤯 this is like something from a bad horror movie they actually thought it was a good idea to plan something like that Interesting 😲 how did two young guys from Texas even come up with such a twisted plot? The fact that they were learning Haitian Creole language and training people on the island just blows my mind 🤯

🤔 I'm glad that law enforcement was able to catch these two guys before they could carry out their twisted plan 🙏 But, you have to wonder how someone could even think about committing such atrocities on an innocent community? And what's crazy is that these guys were planning this while the US air force guy was still training... that raises some serious questions about vetting processes and national security 🤷‍♂️

I also don't get why they thought they could just waltz onto Gonâve and start recruiting people without anyone noticing? It's not like it's a secret island or something. And what's with the Creole language skills? Like, what were they planning to do on the island that required Haitian fluent speakers? 🤔

And let's be real, this whole thing just highlights how vulnerable certain communities are in our world right now 💔

I'm so worried about what happened on Gonâve 🤕🌴. Like, these guys planned this whole thing out, it's crazy! They wanted to take over the island and use the women and kids as slaves? That's just messed up 😡. I don't get why they chose Haiti, though... maybe it was because of how isolated it is? 🌊

I'm glad law enforcement was able to catch them before anything happened 🚔👮‍♂️. 15-30 years in prison sounds like a pretty harsh punishment for child pornography charges 😳. I don't think anyone deserves that, but at the same time... these guys are seriously sick 🤯.

I guess it's also good that we're talking about this now, so we can raise awareness about how vulnerable some places are to threats like this 💡. We need to be more mindful of what's going on in other countries and how we can help support them 💖.

Here's a quick diagram of the situation:

🤯 this is like something out of a bad movie, how did these two dudes even think they could get away with this? I mean, Gonâve has like nothing going for it, you're basically stuck in paradise, what do you want to invade and enslave the locals for? 🌴 It's just unbelievable that they thought they could recruit homeless people from DC and turn them into mindless cannon fodder. And the fact that they actually thought they could get away with slavery and sex trafficking on a tiny island is just sickening 😷 these two dudes are lucky to be behind bars, life sentence isn't enough for this kind of crap.

Ugh this is just crazy 🤯... I mean, can you even believe what these two guys were planning? Like, 85,000+ innocent people and they wanted to turn them into sex slaves? 🚫 It's horrifying to think about the trauma those women and kids would have gone through. And it's not like they just pulled this out of thin air - they actually took the time to learn Haitian Creole and train people on the island, which is just so messed up 😩. I don't get why we even need to talk about this... shouldn't we be focusing on preventing stuff like this from happening in the first place? 🤔

🤯 I mean, can you even imagine a plan like that? These guys are literally trying to take over an entire island? 🌴 It's so twisted and creepy... they wanted to use the women and kids as slaves, it's just horrific 😱. And the fact that they thought they could get away with it is just mind-blowing... I mean, what were they thinking?! 🤔 The FBI is doing a great job investigating this and bringing these guys to justice, but it's still so scary to think about how close we came to having a real-life coup d'etat situation 😬.

omg this is like so crazy 🤯 these guys are literally trying to create their own twisted game of survival in gonâve and it's just horrific 😱 i mean what kinda sick person comes up with a plan to enslave people and commit atrocities on an innocent island? the fact that they were even able to get away with this for so long is just mind-blowing 🤯

and can we talk about how messed up their thought process is? they literally went to thailand to learn how to sail and became fluent in haitian creole lol what's next, are they gonna start a vlog about their island adventures or something? 😂

anywayz i think we gotta ask ourselves why these guys were so desperate to do this. was it just pure evil or was there some underlying issue that drove them to this point? idk but one thing for sure is that these two dudes need to get behind bars ASAP ⚠️

I'm shocked by this whole thing 🤯... Two guys from Texas plotting a coup on an entire island? What's going on in their heads? It's like they're living in some sort of twisted fantasy world where they think they can just take over a community with no regard for human life. And the fact that they were trying to recruit homeless people and use them as sex slaves is just disgusting 😷.

I mean, I get that Gonâve is a pretty isolated place, but that's exactly what makes it vulnerable. The lack of judicial infrastructure and resources can't be an excuse for something like this to happen. And the fact that they were able to fly under the radar for so long is just a testament to how porous our borders are right now.

But here's the thing - this isn't just about two guys who got caught up in some crazy scheme. This is about us as a society and how we allow this kind of behavior to go on. We need to be holding our law enforcement agencies accountable for not catching these threats sooner. And we need to be having more conversations about mental health and what drives people to do such horrific things.

It's just... it's hard to wrap your head around something like this 🤯...

🚨 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole thing... it's absolutely horrific that these two guys thought they could just waltz onto Gonâve and start a coup, only to plan out atrocities like murder, rape, and slavery. The fact that they were talking about using Haitian Creole as their language of choice and even training people on the island for the invasion is just chilling.

And the reason behind this whole thing? Apparently some twisted desires related to rape fantasies... it's so messed up. I mean, I get that we need to be aware of these kinds of threats, but at the same time, isn't there a better way to deal with someone who has such sick thoughts?

It's also pretty crazy how they managed to plan all this out without being detected sooner. The fact that they even bought a boat and started training people just goes to show how much planning went into this whole thing.

The FBI and other agencies did an amazing job of working together to bring these two guys down, though. It's reassuring to know that there are people like them who care about justice and will do everything in their power to keep us safe.

omg i just got back from a trip to costa rica 🌴🏖️ and the beaches there are literally breathtaking 😍 i was thinking about how they have this amazing program for surf lessons for all ages, and it's so affordable too 💸 i mean can you imagine if we had something like that in the US? it would be a total game changer for mental health 🤯 especially after seeing all these news about guys like these... 🚫

😱🤯 what is wrong with these ppl? I cant even imagine how twisted and depraved their minds are 🙌 those 2 americans think they can just waltz onto a small island and start doing God knows what to innocent people? 😡 and its not like they were born with this evil idea in their heads, no, they spent months learning creole and getting training to make it look legit 🤓 how could some ppl even think that rape & slavery is okay? 🚫 the thought alone makes me sick to my stomach 💀 and on top of all this, theyre trying to justify it by saying its about some twisted desires... like who cares about their twisted desires when there are real people at stake?! 🤷‍♀️ the justice system in america needs to do better, i mean we all know that crime is a serious issue but when ppl get indicted for something as heinous as this they should be dealt with swiftly & severely 💪

🚨😱 Can't believe what I just read about these two US dudes planning a coup on Gonâve? Like, 85k people on an island, for them to come up with this twisted plan to kill everyone but use women & kids as slaves is just... 🤯 I don't get how they thought they could get away with it. And what's even crazier is that they actually went to Thailand to learn sailing? 🌴🚣‍♂️ What were they thinking?! The fact that they recruited homeless folks from D.C. and trained them for the invasion just adds to the horror of it all... 😵
