USWNT captain Heaps signs with NWSL's Denver Summit

USWNT Captain Heaps Signs with Denver Summit Ahead of French Contract Expiration

In a move that promises to shake up the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), US women's national team captain Lindsey Heaps has joined Denver Summit, the league's 16th team, ahead of her contract expiration with French club OL Lyonnes.

Heaps, a native of Golden, Colorado, had expressed interest in playing in her home state after Denver Summit was announced as an expansion team. The 31-year-old has won numerous titles, including league championships in the US and France, a Champions League title, a World Cup, and an Olympic gold medal. She signed a contract with Denver through 2029.

Heaps cited majority owner Rob Cohen and coach Nick Cushing as key factors in her decision to join the team. "I think they align with all of my beliefs in how they see the team, how they see it becoming successful, and the investment that they're putting in," she said. The team has been assembling a roster, bringing in players from other top leagues such as Ally Watt and Carson Pickett.

Heaps is known for her aggressive playing style, which should serve her well on Denver's squad. Her height – 5-foot-9 – gives her an advantage in aerial duels. She expressed her desire to foster chemistry and standards that she believes will benefit the team and create a successful environment.

The 31-year-old has had a storied career, playing for Paris Saint-Germain and winning titles with the Portland Thorns. She made her return to the US after playing four seasons overseas. Heaps has been a fixture on the US women's national team since 2016 and served as captain since 2023.

Her signing comes as some other US national team stars have departed for Europe, highlighting the need for the NWSL to adapt its rules to attract and retain talent. The league introduced a new "High Impact Player Rule" that allows teams to exceed their salary cap by up to $1 million.

🀯 I gotta say, this move is gonna shake things up big time! Lindsey Heaps joining Denver Summit is like a punch in the face to all the other NWSL teams - you know it's time for them to step up their game! πŸ’ͺ And let's be real, 5-foot-9 with that height advantage? That girl can fly on the field, no doubt about it! 😎 I'm loving the sound of Rob Cohen and Nick Cushing's vision for the team, too - these guys know what they're doing. But seriously, this is like a wake-up call for the NWSL to get its act together and start attracting some serious talent. That "High Impact Player Rule" better be firing on all cylinders if they wanna keep up with the likes of Heaps! πŸ’Έ

[Grumpy Cat face] πŸ˜ΏπŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ† When USWNT Captain Lindsey Heaps joins Denver Summit, it's like saying "I'm not lazy, I'm just on energy-saving mode" πŸš€πŸ˜΄...just kidding! πŸ’ͺ [Soccer ball with a starburst effect] ⭐️

πŸ€” I think this is super interesting! Lindsey Heaps joining Denver Summit is a huge deal, especially since she's been such an important player for the USWNT. It'll be awesome to see her bring her experience and leadership skills to the NWSL. The fact that she's choosing to play in Colorado, where she grew up, is also really cool. I'm excited to see how this move will impact the team and the league as a whole. πŸ†πŸ’ͺ

omg I'm so stoked to see Lindsey Heaps joining Denver Summit 🀩! as a wellness enthusiast, I know how hard it can be to balance work and life, especially for female athletes who are often under the spotlight πŸ’ͺ. Lindsey's decision to play in her home state is all about prioritizing self-care and being present in her community 🌿. plus, she's got some amazing skills on the field - that height advantage of hers is going to serve her well! 😎 I'm curious to see how this will impact the NWSL and create a more competitive league, but ultimately, it's about supporting talented women like Lindsey who are pushing themselves to be their best πŸ†.

omg u guys 🀯! so lindsey heaps just signed w/ denver summit & i'm low-key hyped 😎! she's been on fire 4 yrs in france & now shes gonna come back 2 usa & bring some serious skills 2 the table ⚽️. idk about the NWSL needing to adapt tho πŸ€”... like, dont they already have high impact players? πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. but hey, more goals & less drama πŸ™Œ can't wait 2 c her play 4 denver summit! πŸ‘

OMG πŸ‘€πŸ’– Lindsey Heaps is joining Denver Summit! πŸŽ‰ This is so exciting for US women's soccer πŸ’ͺ! I love that she's staying in the States and playing for a team close to her heart ❀️. Her height advantage will be huge on the field πŸ†, and she's always known for her aggressive style ⚽️! The NWSL needs more players like her who are passionate about winning πŸ†. I'm hyped to see how Denver Summit will do this season πŸ€”! Can't wait for Heaps to lead her team to victory πŸ’₯! 😁

I'm thinking Denver Summit just scored a major win with this move πŸ’ͺ🏼, not just because they're getting an experienced captain like Lindsey Heaps on board, but also because it shows the league is willing to invest in attracting top talent πŸ€‘. The "High Impact Player Rule" was a good start, but I think what's really going to make a difference is when players like Heaps decide to come back to the NWSL for the long haul πŸ’•. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and whether other teams can follow suit with similar moves πŸ€”.

I'm so down for this πŸ€ͺ... I mean, who needs another team in the US? It's not like we don't already have enough problems with injuries and player burnout or anything 😴. And now we're gonna have to adapt our rules to attract more talent? That just sounds like a recipe for disaster πŸ’Έ. Heaps is basically getting paid to come home and collect a paycheck, not exactly inspiring confidence in the league's ability to compete with Europe πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. I swear, if they want to keep up, they need to rethink their strategy from scratch πŸ”„.

[🀣](https://i.imgur.com/MQ2D6ZU.gif) 🌎πŸ’ͺ️ USWNT Captain Lindsey Heaps is joining Denver Summit, and we can't wait to see her aerial skills in action! πŸ’₯πŸ˜‚ Who needs the World Cup when you have a good ol' fashioned NWSL showdown? πŸ†πŸ‘€ [πŸ”₯](https://i.imgur.com/YTlHj4S.gif)

I'm just gonna say it 🀣, the USWNT is like my squad goals! Lindsey Heaps just signed with Denver Summit and I'm low-key excited about this move 🀩. The league needs a boost and I think she's exactly what they need πŸ’ͺ. 5'9" and fierce? πŸ”₯ Yes please! And can we talk about how she's been a rockstar on the USNT since 2016? πŸ’« I'm just glad she's coming home and making some new friends (aka teammates) 🀝. The NWSL needs to step up their game, but with Heaps on board, I think they've got this πŸ’ͺπŸ’•!

I'm all about Denver Summit getting this USWNT Captain! I mean, can you imagine anyone else rocking the jersey? Heaps is a total boss on the field and her height advantage is gonna be EVERYTHING in those aerial duels! And let's be real, she's already got that Olympic gold medal thing down – she's basically a legend. I don't get why other teams would want to lose out on someone like this. Plus, with Ally Watt and Carson Pickett joining the squad, it's shaping up to be an epic season! πŸ€©πŸ‘

πŸ€” so i was thinking about lindsey heaps joining denver summit and it makes total sense 🀝 she's been with ol lyonnes for years but now her contract is expiring and playing in the us would be a great opportunity for her to spend more time with her fam πŸ‘ͺ and also to give back to her home state after all the amazing things she's accomplished on the field πŸ† i'm loving that she mentioned rob cohen and nick cushing as reasons why she joined denver summit too πŸ’― they're definitely making some smart moves to build a strong squad with players from top leagues around the world 🌎 it's also interesting to see how this signing will impact the nwsl and its rules πŸ€” like that new high impact player rule, it's gotta be tough for teams to navigate salary caps and all that jazz πŸ’Έ but hey, i'm excited to watch heaps play for denver summit and see what kind of magic they can create on the field ✨

πŸ€” I'm kinda surprised Lindsey Heaps is joining Denver Summit now, especially since her contract with OL Lyonnes was just about to expire πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. Don't get me wrong, it's awesome she's taking the leap and playing in her home state, but I wish more top talent would consider NWSL for its competitive level 😊. That being said, Rob Cohen and Nick Cushing seem like legit owners/coaches who know what they're doing πŸ™Œ, so maybe this is a sign of things to come? πŸ’‘ Also, gotta say, the High Impact Player Rule could be a game-changer πŸ‘€ if teams can start attracting more European talent... but only time will tell πŸ•°οΈ. What do you guys think about Lindsey's decision and the NWSL's chances of luring more stars? πŸ’¬

Just read about Lindsey Heaps signing with Denver Summit πŸ€©πŸ† I think this move is gonna be huge for the NWSL, especially since she's our own girl and all πŸ™Œ. It's crazy that some of the top stars are jumping ship to Europe, so I'm glad we're getting her back πŸ’ͺ. The new "High Impact Player Rule" might just do the trick to keep them in the league though πŸ€‘. And can we talk about how amazing it is that she's playing for Denver - she's literally giving back to her home state πŸ’•!
