Venezuelan opposition leader Machado 'grateful' to Trump after giving him her Nobel medal

Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado expressed her gratitude towards US President Donald Trump after presenting him with her Nobel Peace Prize medal in a closed-door meeting at the White House. The meeting took place on Thursday, ahead of Friday when Machado told reporters that she was grateful to Trump for taking action against Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.

Machado stated that it "took courage" for Trump to take action against Maduro and reflected on the history between the two countries. She said that a 200-year-old medal given by General Lafayette to Simon Bolivar, which is now on display in Washington's National Archives, symbolizes the brotherhood between the US and Venezuela in their fight for freedom.

Machado presented Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize medal, along with a letter dedicating it to him. She expressed her desire to share the prize with Trump, saying that she wants the Venezuelan people to have control over its distribution. Machado dedicated the prize to Trump and the people of Venezuela shortly after it was announced last year.

President Trump called it a "wonderful gesture of mutual respect" when presented with the medal. Trump also praised Machado as a "wonderful woman who has been through so much." The president stated that he had a great conversation with Venezuela's acting President Delcy RodrΓguez during their first call since Maduro was seized by US authorities.

Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize last year for her work promoting democratic rights in Venezuela. Trump, on the other hand, has long coveted and campaigned for winning the prize himself. White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung slammed the Nobel Committee after Machado's announcement, saying that they place politics over peace.

However, Jorgen Watne Frydens, the chair of the Nobel Committee, denied that Trump's campaign had any impact on the decision-making process. The committee bases its decisions solely on the work and will of Alfred Nobel, according to Frydens.

πŸ€” Can you imagine if Machado was American? She would've been welcomed with open arms, but because she's from Venezuela (and a vocal critic of their leader), it's like she had to prove herself all over again πŸ™„. Trump's praise for her being a "wonderful woman who has been through so much" sounds nice, but was it genuine or just a calculated move to boost his own reputation? πŸ’β€β™€οΈ I'm not buying the "mutual respect" vibe either... Machado deserves credit for speaking truth to power and standing up for democracy, regardless of Trump's intentions πŸ‘. By the way, what's with all this politicking around the Nobel Peace Prize? Can't they just focus on promoting peace and understanding without using it as a platform for egos? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

πŸ€” what's going on here? she wins nobel peace prize, then just hands it over to trump like he's some kinda hero πŸ™„ anyway, machado says it took courage for trump to take action against Maduro but we all know that's not exactly true πŸ˜’ still, it's a weird move. what's the real reason behind her gestures? is it really about peace or is there something more to it? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

πŸ€” I'm kinda surprised Machado gave Trump her Nobel Prize medal...I mean, it does show she appreciates his actions against Maduro, but doesn't that go to the US government's side? Shouldn't it be a neutral recognition of human rights efforts? πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ Still, I guess it's a step in the right direction for Venezuela. Trump saying Machado is a "wonderful woman" though...that feels kinda off to me. πŸ˜’ She's been through so much & all that. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like Trump's getting some good PR out of this... πŸ€‘

I gotta say, this whole thing is pretty complicated 🀯. I mean, Machado's showing respect for Trump by giving him her Nobel Peace Prize medal and all, but at the same time, Trump's been super vocal about wanting the prize himself in the past πŸ’ͺ. It's like, what's the deal with that? And then you got this whole drama about the Nobel Committee not being swayed by Trump's campaign πŸ€”. I'm just wondering if Machado's actions are gonna help ease tensions between the US and Venezuela or make things worse πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. One thing's for sure, though - it's a pretty interesting dynamic to have going on here 😎.

😊 this is crazy, i mean what's next? is trump gonna get the peace prize for literally anything he does? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ i dont think machado should share her prize with him tho, its hers alone πŸ’ͺ i feel like she was just trying to get some recognition and respect for her work, not to boost trump's ego πŸ˜’

I gotta say, this whole thing is kinda confusing πŸ€”... Like Machado was really thankful for Trump taking action against Maduro, but at the same time, White House Director Cheung is all salty about politics influencing the Nobel Prize decisions? πŸ™„ I mean, I get it, Trump's been wanting that prize forever and stuff, but can't he just chill? πŸ˜’ It's not like Machado was trying to steal his thunder or anything. And honestly, I'm more concerned with the fact that Maduro is still in charge and Venezuela's still struggling πŸ€•. Maybe we should focus on supporting the people of Venezuela rather than trying to one-up each other with awards? πŸŒŽπŸ’–

OMG, I'm literally shocked 🀯! Like, Machado actually gave her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump? What's going on? πŸ€‘ I mean, I get that Machado wants to use her prize to help the people of Venezuela, but come on... giving it to a US president is like, totally opposite intentions πŸ˜‚. Can we talk about how this whole thing went down with Machado and Trump? Like, what was the conversation like between them? Was there any kind of pressure from the Nobel Committee or White House to present the medal to Trump instead? πŸ€”

I'm not sure if this is a good idea... Machado presenting Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize medal kinda feels like she's trying to curry favor or something πŸ€”. I mean, I get that Trump's been tough on Maduro, but does this really help the situation? It just seems like Trump's getting a free pass for taking action against Maduro, and Machado's getting some brownie points with him πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. And what's up with White House Director of Communications saying they prioritize politics over peace? πŸ™„ That just smells like politics as usual...

I'm not sure if I should be impressed or annoyed πŸ€”. Machado presenting Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize medal? It feels like a publicity stunt, especially after White House Director Cheung's outburst. The whole thing seems scripted πŸ“Ί. What's next? Is the prize going to be auctioned off to raise funds for Trump's re-election campaign πŸ€‘? And what's up with the back-and-forth between Machado and Trump about sharing the prize? It just comes across as her trying to save face πŸ™ƒ. Can't we have a genuine conversation about peace without all the drama πŸ’β€β™€οΈ?

🀩 I'm loving this unexpected twist! Maria Corina Machado is literally breaking all the norms and being super humble and gracious by presenting her own Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump πŸ™. It's like she's showing that even in a world of politics, we can still find common ground and respect for each other's efforts. And I gotta say, I'm feeling so inspired by her courage and determination πŸ’ͺ. It's amazing to see someone using their platform to bring people together instead of tearing them apart πŸ”—. And Trump's response? Absolutely wonderful 😊! Let's keep spreading love and positivity wherever we go πŸ’•

πŸ€” I don't know if Machado was being genuine when she said Trump took action against Maduro... I mean, didn't he just invade Venezuela? That's not exactly taking "action" if you ask me πŸ˜’. But at the same time, I guess it is kinda cool that she wanted to share her prize with him and all 🀝. I mean, who doesn't love a good gesture of mutual respect, right? πŸ’― On the other hand, I'm still not convinced that Trump deserved the prize in the first place... I mean, didn't he just use it as a way to boost his own ego? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€” I'm not sure what's going on here... Machado thanks Trump for taking action against Maduro, but isn't she the one who's been campaigning for regime change in Venezuela? πŸ™„ It's weird that Trump is getting a Nobel Peace Prize medal just for doing his job as president. And what's with the whole thing about a 200-year-old medal between the US and Venezuela? It feels like Machado is trying to spin this into some kind of grand gesture, but it just comes across as awkward. 😳

awwwwwww this is so sweet!!! πŸ€— Maria Corina Machado is literally making history by sharing her Nobel Peace Prize medal with Trump!! I'm all about spreading love and positivity, and this is like the ultimate example of it! 😊 It's clear that Machado and Trump have some serious respect for each other (and for democracy!), and I'm so here for it!!! πŸ’–

πŸ€” I'm not sure if Machado really gave her Nobel Peace Prize medal to Trump or not πŸ™ƒ... wasn't she supposed to donate it to a museum instead? Also, isn't there some controversy around Maduro being "seized" by US authorities? Like, what exactly happened with that? πŸ’‘ It's interesting how the White House Director of Communications is already trying to spin this as politics over peace, though. πŸ˜’

I'm not sure why Maria Corina Machado is thanking Donald Trump for taking action against Nicolas Maduro... like what did he do exactly? πŸ€” Trump has been all over Venezuela, making a big show of himself, but what's the real outcome of that? Is it really about "freedom" or just more power struggles between politicians? I get why Machado wants to thank him, but what about the people affected by the chaos? We should be supporting people on the ground who are fighting for change, not just shaking hands with whoever is in charge. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I'm low-key impressed by Machado's move 🀯. She's not afraid to take risks and break the rules to get what she believes in πŸ’ͺ. Giving Trump her Nobel Peace Prize medal is a bold statement about their shared values for freedom and democracy πŸ•ŠοΈ. I wonder if Trump was actually sincere about his intentions, or just using it as a PR stunt πŸ€”. Either way, it's clear that Machado has got his attention πŸ‘€. I'm also curious to see how the Nobel Committee reacts to White House Director Cheung's comments πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. Maybe they'll take another look at Trump's application next year πŸ˜….

πŸ€” I'm not sure why Machado is thanking Trump, considering he was part of a US regime change operation in Venezuela... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Still, it's heartening to see a Nobel Peace Prize winner advocating for democratic rights and freedom in Venezuela πŸ’‘ The medal itself has an interesting history - the fact that General Lafayette gave it to Bolivar is pretty cool πŸ”₯ But what about the timing? Machado wins the prize last year, and now she's giving it to Trump as if he's done some kind of heroic work for Venezuela πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Maybe Machado's just trying to build bridges between US-Venezuela relations or something? I'd love to see more context on that.

πŸ€” I'm surprised by this development... Machado's gratitude towards Trump seems sincere, but can we really separate politics from peace? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ I mean, Trump has been vocal about his admiration for her, maybe it was just a PR stunt? πŸ“° On the other hand, Machado's dedication to promoting democratic rights in Venezuela is truly commendable. πŸ’ͺ

The history between US and Venezuela is complex, but using a 200-year-old medal as a symbol of brotherhood is a nice touch 🌟. Trump's praise for Machado seems genuine, but we should also remember his track record on human rights and democracy. πŸ€”

I'd love to see more initiatives like this, where international leaders come together to promote peace and understanding 🌎. Maybe the Nobel Committee can take a closer look at their decision-making process to ensure it's not swayed by politics? πŸ’‘

I'm not sure about this one πŸ€”... I mean, it's great to see Maria Corina Machado being recognized for her work in Venezuela, but Trump taking credit for it? It seems a bit much to me πŸ™„. I get that he's trying to be the hero, but Machado's message is all about the Venezuelan people wanting democracy and freedom, not just Trump doing some good deed. And what's with White House Director Steven Cheung slamming the Nobel Committee? Shouldn't they just focus on their own decisions? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
