Volvo aims for an EV reset with the new EX60 crossover

Volvo is shaking things up in the EV market with its latest offering, the EX60 crossover SUV. The Swedish automaker is positioning this new electric vehicle as a fresh start for its battery-powered lineup, and it's clear that they're putting their money where their mouth is. With fast-charging capabilities and an 800-volt architecture, the EX60 feels like a concerted effort by Volvo to address some of the most common pain points of EV ownership.

On the surface, the EX60 looks familiar - its exterior design bears a resemblance to other Volvo EVs and hybrids, such as the EX90 and XC70. However, the new crossover SUV is built on a completely new platform, Volvo's SPA3 (Scalable Product Architecture 3), which comes with a raft of new capabilities and features that have been absent from the company's lineup.

SPA3 is designed for modularity, meaning its hardware and software can be continuously improved. It's also the first vehicle to benefit from Volvo's new megacasting production process, which reduces weight and improves manufacturing efficiency. The structural battery pack, in which the high-voltage cells are actually part of the structural chassis, is another innovative feature.

But what really sets the EX60 apart is its processing power. Built around HuginCore, Volvo's state-of-the-art hardware and software system, which brings together the automaker's in-house technology with features from Google, Nvidia, and Qualcomm, this vehicle feels like a powerhouse. The result is a car that's faster, smarter, and continuously improving through over-the-air updates.

The EX60 will also feature Google's Gemini as its new AI assistant, allowing drivers to have "natural and personalized" conversations. And the infotainment system is designed to be highly responsive with zero lag - although it remains to be seen how well it performs in real-world use.

With an 800-volt architecture, fast-charging capabilities, and a range of up to 400 miles, the EX60 feels like Volvo's answer to the criticism that its EVs are slow to charge. The vehicle can charge from 10-80 percent in just 19 minutes, or add 168 miles of range in just 10 minutes, when using a 400kW fast charger.

One notable feature is the global 10-year battery warranty covering up to 240,000km - a move that suggests Volvo has confidence in its in-house battery development and manufacturing capabilities. The EX60 will also arrive with vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid functionality as standard across all markets and trims, marking a significant step forward for the company's EV ambitions.

The EX60 will be available in three powertrain variants: the P6, with 310 miles of estimated range; the P10, with 320 miles; and the P12, with 400 miles. The P10 and P12 will both come with all-wheel drive for instant torque and improved traction. The P6's single motor is in the rear wheel, for a lighter, more agile driving experience.

Pricing starts at around $60,000 for the P10, which comes with an impressive array of standard features. And with Volvo's new megacasting production process, the EX60 will have its entire rear underbody cast by an 8,400-ton casting machine, allowing the company to replace around 100 separate parts with a single piece of aluminum.

Overall, the EX60 is a significant step forward for Volvo in the EV market. With its fast-charging capabilities, advanced technology, and innovative production process, this new crossover SUV feels like a game-changer - and one that could help the Swedish automaker right the ship on EVs.

I'm stoked to see Volvo stepping up their EV game πŸš€! I think they're onto something with the EX60's 800-volt architecture, fast-charging capabilities, and HuginCore tech - it's like a powerhouse of innovation πŸ’». The idea of over-the-air updates is so cool, it'll be awesome to see how that plays out in real-world use πŸ€”. And that global 10-year battery warranty? Insane! πŸš—πŸ’―. I'm excited to see how this impacts the market and if it's enough to get people switching from gas to electric...

πŸ’• I'm feeling really excited for Volvo's latest offering, the EX60! 🀩 It sounds like they've put so much thought into addressing some of the common pain points of EV ownership, like fast-charging capabilities and a more responsive infotainment system. The idea that it can charge from 10-80% in just 19 minutes is game-changing, right? 😊 And the fact that it's coming with a global 10-year battery warranty makes me feel so much better about investing in an electric vehicle. Plus, the megacasting production process sounds like such a cool innovation! πŸ€– What do you think is the most promising feature of the EX60?

idk why they still make it so hard to transfer data between devices πŸ€”. i mean, you'd think with google's gemini and all that tech, volvo would be able to just make it seamless to switch between the infotainment system and other apps... but nope, it's still laggy 😩. and can we please get a more intuitive way to manage our charging sessions? like, how am i supposed to know when my car is done charging if i don't get a notification? πŸš—πŸ’¨

I'm kinda stoked about the EX60, you know? I mean, Volvo's finally stepping up their EV game with some serious tech πŸ’». That 800-volt architecture is a huge win for fast charging and it sounds like it's gonna be a major upgrade over their old models πŸš€. The fact that they're including Google's AI assistant, Gemini, as standard is also pretty cool πŸ€–. It's all about making the driving experience more convenient and personalized, right? And I love that they're offering a 10-year battery warranty - it's a bold move, but it shows they're investing in their own tech πŸ’Έ. Can't wait to see how this thing performs in real-world use!

I gotta say, I'm super stoked to see Volvo bringing out the EX60 πŸš€! They're really pushing the boundaries of what's possible with electric vehicles. I mean, who needs 19 minutes to go from 10-80% charge? That's crazy fast! 😲 And the whole modular platform thing is genius - it's like they're saying "hey, we know our EVs might not be perfect yet, but we're gonna keep working on it and make them better". I love that kind of commitment to improvement πŸ’ͺ. Plus, all-wheel drive for instant torque? Game changer right there! 🀩 What do you guys think about the EX60? Are you excited to see where Volvo goes from here?

πŸš€ OMG I'm SO hyped about the EX60!!! 800-volt architecture is gonna make a HUGE difference in range & charging times! πŸ•’ Fast-charging capabilities are a major selling point, can't wait to see how it stacks up against other EVs on the market! πŸ’» The HuginCore system is insane, I love that it's built with features from Google, Nvidia, and Qualcomm - game-changing tech right there! 😲 And Google's Gemini AI assistant? πŸ€– Game. Changer. Can't wait to hear more about how it performs in real-world use! πŸš—

I gotta say, 800-volt architecture? Sounds like just another buzzword to me πŸ€”. I mean, sure, it's cool and all that, but what does it really get you in terms of practicality? Like, how often do you actually need to charge your car on the go? And isn't fast-charging just a fancy way of saying "I don't want to wait for my battery to charge"? πŸš—πŸ’¨

And have you seen the prices? $60k is steep for an EV that's not even out of beta yet πŸ€‘. I mean, what's the catch? Are we being sold on the 'magical' 10-year battery warranty or something? 😏

I'm not sure I'm sold on this new EX60 from Volvo πŸ€”... it's got all these fancy features and whatnot, but is it just gonna be another overpriced EV with a bunch of bells and whistles? The 800-volt architecture sounds like a big deal, but how reliable is that tech gonna be in the long run? And don't even get me started on the "global 10-year battery warranty" - what's the catch there? πŸ€‘

I'm also kinda skeptical about this Google-powered AI assistant thing... isn't that just gonna make my car more of a smart speaker than a actual vehicle? πŸ˜’ And have we really seen any proof that these over-the-air updates are gonna be stable and secure? I mean, what happens when they glitch out or steal our data? 🚨

Lastly, $60k is still pretty steep for an EV - especially considering the competition in this market. Is Volvo just gonna be pricing itself out of reach of its target audience? πŸ€‘πŸ‘€

the ex60 looks so cool 🀩 I mean what's not to love about an 800-volt architecture and fast-charging capabilities? its processing power is straight fire πŸ”₯ i love how volvo's hugincore system brings together their in-house tech with features from google, nvidia, and qualcomm. the fact that it can charge from 10-80% in just 19 minutes is a major win πŸ’¨

I'm so stoked to see Volvo finally stepping up their EV game 🀩! This EX60 thing is looking like a total beast, especially with that 800-volt architecture and HuginCore tech. I mean, who needs lag in the infotainment system? πŸ˜‚ And those fast-charging capabilities are gonna make long road trips so much easier. I'm also loving the global 10-year battery warranty - that's some serious confidence in their battery tech πŸ’―. And with the Google Gemini AI assistant on board, it's like having your own personal butler... er, car πŸ˜‚. Can't wait to see how this thing performs in real life! πŸ‘
