Ugh, it's just so sad to see this happen...
The Washington Post is like my favorite old friend who I've been reading for years, but now they're getting cut down by their own billionaire owner
. I mean, 300 jobs? That's like cutting out an entire chapter of our lives
. And the fact that they're trying to reorient around politics just makes me think they're more worried about keeping Bezos happy than doing what's best for journalism
.
I get it, declining readership is a thing, but don't they have any other ideas?
It feels like they're just throwing good people away because of some profit margin. And don't even get me started on the sports desk... I mean, come on, can't we just keep covering the Olympics for once?!
I'm actually kinda curious to see if Bezos is gonna listen to all these pleas from his employees
. Maybe he'll surprise us and be like, "Hey, you know what? We need our journalists back!" But until then, I guess we're just stuck in this limbo of uncertainty
.
