Vrabel Downplays Concern Over Maye's Shoulder Injury Ahead of Super Bowl.
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked about the status of quarterback Drake Maye, who is dealing with a right shoulder injury, but he remained optimistic that his QB would be ready for the big game on Sunday.
"I try not to have a whole lot of concern," Vrabel said Thursday in a press conference. "I just want to try to prepare the football team and make sure everybody is ready."
Maye was spotted on the practice field during portions open to the media, but he didn't throw with the team. The quarterback appeared to have hurt his shoulder during Sunday's 10-7 win over Denver in the AFC Championship game.
Vrabel pushed back on the idea that Maye had been dealing with a shoulder injury leading up to the game. "No, because then he would have been listed on the injury report before then," he replied.
Maye has downplayed talk of being hindered by any injury, saying he's feeling good and is ready to go for the Super Bowl. He believes his extra rest and reduced throwing schedule will help him be at 100% come game day.
"I'm feeling good," Maye said on WEEI Tuesday. "We've got some extra rest... I don’t think it’s from the game. I think it's just the buildup of throwing, including training camp, 30 weeks straight of throwing and four days a week. It can add up."
While Vrabel is not sounding any alarms over Maye's injury, the Patriots' coaching staff will still be keeping a close eye on their QB's progress in the coming days. The team will likely continue to monitor Maye's condition before making a final decision on his playing status for Super Bowl LX.
