What to know about the NYPD commissioner Mamdani, Cuomo and Sliwa all say they’d keep

Mamdani, Cuomo and Sliwa Unite on One Key Issue: Keeping NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in Her Job

In a surprise show of unity, mayoral candidates Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa have all agreed to keep NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch in her position if elected. The unlikely consensus has left many scratching their heads, as the three candidates cannot be said to agree on anything else.

Tisch, a 44-year-old heiress to the Loews empire, has been at the helm of the NYPD since November 2024. During her tenure, she has made significant strides in rooting out misconduct and improving public safety, with many crimes plummeting to historic lows under her watch. However, critics argue that Tisch's focus on quality of life enforcement, particularly through the controversial "Q-teams" initiative, has disproportionately targeted low-income communities of color.

Despite these criticisms, experts praise Tisch for putting out what they call a "dumpster fire" within the NYPD, with veteran detective Kirk Burkhalter stating that her biggest accomplishment is stabilizing the department. Peter Moskos, an associate professor at John Jay College, agrees, saying that Tisch's lack of corruption is "huge."

However, not everyone is convinced by Tisch's efforts. Police oversight advocates argue that the Q-team pilot was rolled out without transparency and has led to an increase in minor crimes being charged. Jennvine Wong, a supervising attorney with Legal Aid's Cop Accountability Project, expressed concern over Tisch's decision to clear an officer who shot unarmed Allan Feliz during a traffic stop.

Tisch's commitment to public safety is undeniable, with many high-profile cases, such as the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and the shootout at a Midtown office building, showcasing her department's effectiveness. Nevertheless, critics will continue to scrutinize Tisch's policies and decisions, ensuring that accountability remains a hallmark of police reform.

As the mayoral candidates prepare for their elections, one thing is clear: keeping Jessica Tisch as NYPD Commissioner has become a point of unity among Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa.

I'm not buying it 🙄... three guys who can't even agree on everything suddenly become best buds over keeping some rich heiress in her job? It's just convenient politics as usual. And what's with the emphasis on public safety when they're more concerned about being friends with a corrupt cop? Tisch has done some okay things, I guess, but that Q-team initiative is still a major red flag 🔴... and don't even get me started on the Allan Feliz incident 🚔... it's all just too suspicious.

omg u dont no wut's goin on here lol.. ths news is crazy! so mamdani, cuomo, & sliva all agree 2 keep jessica tisch in her job? thats like, total unity fam 🤯. i gotta admit, tisch has done some cool stuff 2 reduce crime & improve public safety, especially w/ that q-team initiative... but critics still got beef w/ it cuz it's been targeted at low-income communities of color 🙅‍♂️.

i think its kinda weird bcs mamdani, cuomo, & sliva r all diff ppl w/ diff platforms... i dunno how they came 2 agree on keepin tisch in her job lol. anywayz, tisch seems 2 be doin somethin rite w/ public safety, but critics are still watchin her back 👀. can't wait 2 c what happens in the elections 🤞

You know what's wild? I was just reading about this new outdoor movie theater that just opened up in Brooklyn 🎥🌃 and it's literally right next to this amazing ice cream shop. They have the most unique flavors, like matcha and black sesame! I'm totally going there for my birthday next month 😋. I wonder if Zohran Mamdani would support more outdoor events in NYC or just focus on policing issues... maybe Curtis Sliwa could bring some of his street smarts to the table? 🤔💡

😔 I gotta say, it's kinda weird that these 3 guys are all on the same page about keeping Tisch in her job despite all the controversy surrounding her initiatives. Like, I get that she's done some good stuff with public safety, but Q-teams being rolled out without transparency is major red flag 🚨. And what about Allan Feliz's case? Doesn't that deserve more scrutiny? It's like they're trying to sweep everything under the rug... or maybe it's just Tisch who's really good at her job of keeping a clean department? 😕 Either way, I hope whoever gets elected does a better job of holding Tisch accountable 💪

I'm totally gonna disagree with this whole thing 🤯... I mean, can't these guys see that Tisch's policies are all about keeping the rich and powerful happy while leaving the poor and marginalized to deal with the brunt of it? The Q-teams initiative is literally just another way for her to justify policing low-income communities of color even harder 💸. And don't even get me started on how convenient it is that she just happens to be a wealthy heiress with connections 🤑... Meanwhile, all these "experts" are just praising her for putting out fires and stabilizing the department? Like, what about actually fixing the underlying issues? It's all just PR spin 📣. I bet if you really dug into it, Tisch's commitment to public safety would be a total joke 💔...

I'm kinda surprised by this news lol 🤔. It's like they're all on the same page when it comes to Tisch, but you never know what else is gonna pop up in an election 🤷‍♀️. I mean, she's definitely had her ups and downs as commissioner, especially with that Q-team thing... but at least she's trying to clean house, right? 🚮💪. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, especially if any of them win 🤞.

🤔 I'm kinda surprised that all these mayoral candidates agree on keeping Tisch as the commissioner... I mean, I know she's done some good things like reducing crime and stuff 🚫💪. But at the same time, I don't think it's right to just ignore the fact that her policies have affected low-income communities of color 🤷‍♀️. Like, shouldn't we be having a bigger conversation about police reform? 🗣️ My friends in school are always talking about how unfair it is when certain groups get targeted by law enforcement... maybe this is a chance for all these candidates to really show us what they're made of 💬.

I'm so done with all this politics 🤯🙄. On one hand, you got these three mayoral candidates who suddenly have nothing to disagree on... it's kinda weird? 💁‍♀️ But on the other hand, I gotta respect that Jessica Tisch has made some real strides in keeping crime low and rooting out misconduct in the NYPD 🚔👮‍♀️. Like, who doesn't want a safer city, right? 🌆 But at the same time, there's gotta be more to it than just saying all police officers are good guys... we need accountability, people 💯. And what about these Q-teams that Tisch introduced? I mean, I get where she's trying to improve public safety, but if it's targeting low-income communities of color... that's a whole different story 🤔. I just wish our politicians could stop being so... united 🙄.

🤯 I mean, what's going on here? These politicians are all like "yeah, let's keep the commissioner, she's doing great" but when you dig deeper it's like they're not even listening to the critics. 🚨 It's like they're trying to sweep this under the rug because Tisch has done some good stuff, don't get me wrong. But is it really fair to say that everything she's doing is for the greater good? I think there are still a lot of unanswered questions about the Q-team initiative and how it's affecting low-income communities 🤔. And what about the officer who shot Allan Feliz in that traffic stop? That's some serious accountability issues right there 😬. It's like they're all just trying to present this rosy picture of Tisch being a great commissioner but I'm not buying it 💁‍♀️. Can't we just have a real discussion about police reform instead of just going along with the status quo? 🤷‍♂️

🤔 I'm kinda surprised to see these 3 guys go along on this one, especially considering how much they disagree on other stuff 😂. But hey, if keeping Tisch around means less "dumpster fires" in the NYPD 🚮💨, I guess it's a good thing? The Q-team initiative is still super problematic tho... 👎 it feels like she's just sweeping stuff under the rug instead of really addressing the issues with policing 🤷‍♀️. Still, if anyone can make Tisch listen to the community, it's gotta be one of these 3 politicians 😊.
