I mean, think about it, 97 murders in over a decade is actually pretty impressive, especially considering the size of the population. But let's not get too carried away here, the Met still has to address other forms of crime that affect more people. Like robbery and burglary, which are way more common than murder. I'm not saying their approach isn't working, but it needs to be looked at from multiple angles, you know? And yeah, the Violence Reduction Unit is a good start, but we can't just leave it up to community leaders and social workers to fix everything. The police force still has a role to play in enforcing laws and keeping people safe. It's all about finding that balance between prevention and enforcement...
the drop in murder rate is defo due to the Met's new approach , they're actually tackling the root causes of crime instead of just enforcing laws, so kudos to that . but come on, critics are still saying the police need to do more to tackle other forms of crime? like, what did you expect them to do? crack down on every single type of crime at once? . and yeah, the far right using this as an excuse to polarize people is super problematic, but that's not gonna stop the Met from doing their thing . community engagement and preventative policing are the way forward, IMO .

I'm thinking that its kinda cool how they're trying to get at the root of the problem with this violence reduction unit . Like, addressing the social issues that lead to crime is way more effective than just throwing cops at it, you know? And 90% success rate is pretty amazing! But at the same time, I'm not sure if its enough to tackle all forms of crime and robbery and stuff...I mean, we shouldnt have a one-size-fits-all approach to policing . And what about the community leaders and social workers who are doing this amazing work? They deserve way more support and recognition .
I'm not surprised to see the Met's "success" being touted as a major achievement . I mean, who needs actual data or a thorough analysis when you've got a fancy new unit and some nice-sounding buzzwords like "community engagement"? Meanwhile, the real issue is that crime is still happening in all its forms, and we're just pretending everything is hunky-dory with the Violence Reduction Unit's 90% success rate. I'm curious to see how many of those "diverted" youth actually stick to their rehabilitation plans...
