World Cup 2026 tickets: FIFA urged to halt ticket sales over ‘betrayal’ of fans pricing plan

FIFA faces intense backlash as World Cup ticket prices spark outrage among fans, with the cheapest ticket for a final match costing over £3,000.

The revelation comes ahead of a random selection draw for World Cup tickets, which was opened by tournament organizers FIFA at 4 pm UK time on Thursday. Fans are being given the chance to buy tickets online between now and January 13 at fixed prices, with no indication that prices will rise or fall based on demand.

According to Football Supporters Europe (FSE), these ticket prices are a "monumental betrayal" of fans, who feel they have been left out in the cold due to an unfair pricing system. FSE believes that FIFA's method of allocating tickets dependent on vague criteria such as perceived attractiveness of a match is also deeply flawed.

England football supporters group Free Lions described the price as "shocking prices above and beyond what we suspected", with ticket costs ranging between $4,185 and $8,680 for England fans. The cheapest tickets start at just over £2,000 for Croatia's first round game while a final ticket for England will cost an eye-watering six grand.

As the World Cup approaches, concerns have been raised about the sustainability of FIFA's approach to ticket pricing in light of rising inflation and financial difficulties faced by many football supporters.

The price is crazy 🤯! I mean, £3k+ for a final match? It's just not right. Fans are already getting priced out of the game, now they're making it impossible to afford. And what's up with that whole "perceived attractiveness of a match" thing? Like, who gets to decide if a match is attractive or not? It doesn't make sense. 😒

I'm literally fuming right now 🤯! £3k is insane for a final match ticket?! What's wrong with FIFA? Don't they know that fans have been struggling to make ends meet already? It's just so unfair to all the people who are just trying to enjoy the beautiful game. And what about the inflation thingy? Can't they do something about it? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, £2k for Croatia's game is still a lot, but at least that one isn't as ridiculous as the England final ticket. It's just not right that fans have to shell out so much money just to watch their team play. 😡

OMG 😱 I cant even believe what im seeing here... £3k for a final match ticket is insane!!! 🤑 I mean, I know it costs a lot to host the World Cup but come on FIFA, can't you just make it more affordable for fans? 🤷‍♂️ The prices are already so high now and then you drop the bombshell like this... its too much! 💸 And whats with the vague criteria for ticket allocation? It sounds like a total mess to me. 😡

£3k is just insane!!! I mean what's next? £5k for a pint at the pub?! Fans have to pay that kinda cash for a game? It's just ridiculous! They're gonna price fans out, then wonder why some cant make it... And what's with the random allocation thingy? Sounds like FIFA's just trying to screw over all the casual fans who wanna see their team play. I get it, they need the dough, but can't they do it in a way that's not so unfair?

ugh man i cant even imagine paying that much for tickets its like theyre charging us to watch a game 🤯 i feel so bad for all those fans who are gonna get squeezed out cuz they can afford it not everyone has a six figure job 😂 and thats not just the fans, think about all the people who work at stadiums or sell merchandise, they're probably getting squeezed too. its all about making that money back from these massive tournaments, but what about the fans?! we should be able to enjoy the game without breaking the bank 💸 and yeah those prices are straight up ridiculous £3k for a final match is insane! who do they think they are? 🤑

I feel so bad for those fans trying to buy tickets... £3k is crazy! It's like they're taking advantage of people who just want to watch their favorite teams play 🤕. I get that FIFA has expenses, but does it have to be this harsh on the fans? They're already feeling stressed about inflation and stuff, now they've got this added pressure... it's not fair 😔. And £2k for Croatia? That's just cruel 💸. I hope some kind soul is going to win those tickets in the random draw so someone can actually enjoy the World Cup without breaking the bank 🤞.

omg is this for real? £3k+ for a final match?? i'm not surprised tho i mean who doesn't love watching soccer live but that's just insane i remember when tickets were like £20-£30 for england games and now they're charging over 4k? i'm starting to think it's all about the big clubs and their rich sponsors. what's going on with inflation tho? shouldnt prices be more reasonable considering everyone's struggling financially? anyway, can someone pls explain how this works? do fans get a refund if they dont get tickets or is it take it or leave it??

😒 I'm like so angry when I think about those FIFA ticket prices lol 😩. £3k is insane for a final match! I remember when my uncle went to Brazil 2014, tickets were way more affordable 🤦‍♂️. Now it's all about who can afford the most cash and not about the fans' experience at all 🚫. I mean, what's the point of even having a fan zone or live match atmosphere if you're gonna be stuck in your seat? 🙄 It's just so...not right 😔.

omg can you believe these prices?! £3k+ for a final match is just crazy 🤯 like what even is the point of having a fanbase if they're not gonna be able to afford tickets? i mean, i know some people will still manage to splurge but it's just so unfair to all the casual fans who wanna experience the magic of the world cup. and don't even get me started on inflation... my monthly rent is around £800 and these ticket prices are over 3 times that! 🤷‍♂️ anyway, have you guys tried making your own homemade pizza dough from scratch? it's actually really easy and delicious 🍕

omg £3k is insane!!! i mean i know its supposed to be a premium event but come on thats just ridiculous fans deserve better than that 😂💸 cant believe they dont take inflation into consideration when pricing tickets 🤯👎

I mean, can you believe these prices? £3k+ for a final match ticket? It's just ridiculous! I get that they want to make some cash back, but come on, fans are already struggling with inflation and all that... it feels like FIFA is just taking advantage of people's passion for the game. And don't even get me started on the allocation system - it sounds super unfair. Like, who gets to decide if a match is "attractive" enough? It's just not right. I'm all for FIFA making some money, but this feels like they're more worried about lining their pockets than taking care of the fans... 😒🏟️

omg £3k for a final match ticket? who exactly are these tickets for? 🤑😂 fans or just super rich people with no life? it's like they're charging people per breath, what a joke! 🤣 i mean, can you imagine if the lottery ticket prices were that high and everyone had to shell out £3k just to watch a random game of football? would be hilarious if not so cringeworthy for actual fans who actually care about the sport

I'm so bummed out by this news 🤕. It seems like FIFA is more worried about lining their pockets than making sure fans can actually afford to watch the World Cup in person. £3,000 for a final match ticket? That's crazy expensive! I don't think it's fair that they're not even considering the fact that inflation is on the rise and many people are struggling financially.

I mean, what kind of system do you have if fans can't even get tickets to their own national team games because of prices being out of control? It just doesn't seem right. And I don't think it's fair that they're using vague criteria like "perceived attractiveness" of a match to decide who gets tickets... it's so unfair!

Ugh, can you believe these prices?! 🤯 £3,000+ for a final match is crazy talk! I mean, I get that tickets are expensive, but this is just ridiculous. What's next? Tickets to see the World Cup on YouTube for £5,000? 😂 The fact that they're not even adjusting prices based on demand is just another slap in the face to fans who've been waiting years for these games. And what about those who can't afford it? Are they really going to be left out of the tournament altogether? It's just not right 🤦‍♂️

come on FIFA how can u charge 3k for a final match ticket like dat?? fans r already payin thru the nose for seats & merch n now u wanna rip us off even more?? £2k for Croatia's first round game is bad enuf but £8k for england's final match?? that's just daylight robbery!! what's next gonna be tickets 4 air?

omg i cant even believe how expensive these world cup tickets are lol i mean what is £3k for a final match?! that's like 5 months rent or something 🤯 but at the same time i get why fans are outraged they feel ripped off and treated unfairly... but on the other hand, shouldn't some people have access to these super rare events just because they're die hard fans? idk maybe i'm being too soft on the price hike lol.

OMG, £3k+ for a World Cup final match ticket is CRAZY!!! 🤯 I'm not surprised though, these prices are just insane! 😱 It's like FIFA is trying to price out the fans who actually care about the game. Like, what even is the logic behind this pricing system? 😂 It seems so random and unfair. And to make matters worse, inflation is on the rise too, so it's not like people have more money just because of inflation... 🤑 I feel bad for all those England fans who have to shell out that much cash for a ticket. 💸

🤔 I feel kinda bad for fans tryna catch a glimpse of the World Cup. £3k+ for one final match is just crazy talk! 🤑 They're basically price-gouging people who already are struggling to make ends meet. Like, what's up with this pricing system? It's like they don't even care about the fans anymore... 😔 The whole thing just feels really unfair and, honestly, a bit dodgy. Shouldn't FIFA be working with fans, not against them? 🤝 It's gonna be hard for people to justify these prices when you consider inflation is still a thing and many are feeling the pinch. Anyone else think this is just ridiculous? 😳

OMG 🤯 like, what is going on with FIFA?! Ticket prices are insane!!! £3k+ for a final match? That's like buying a house or something! 😱 I feel so bad for the fans who are trying to buy tickets online right now and can't even afford it. It's like they're pricing out the regular people just so the rich folks can get those super expensive seats 🤑. And what's with this random selection draw thingy? Can't we just have a fair system where everyone has an equal chance of getting tickets? 🤔 FIFA needs to rethink their game plan, stat! 💥
