Xabi Alonso failed to control Real Madrid's egos in brief and bitter reign

The Spanish football club Real Madrid has made its 11th managerial change in two decades under the presidency of Florentino Pérez, with Xabi Alonso being relieved of his duties after just over seven months at the helm. The former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, who won the Champions League with the club in 2002, took charge following a season of 'laissez-faire' failure.

Alonso's tenure was marked by an attempt to adapt to the club's culture, but it appears that this approach ultimately failed to gel. He had promised a collective approach, where players would have to "run" as one unit, but in reality, individual players continued to dominate the game, with the likes of Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior scoring most of the goals.

The tension in the dressing room was palpable, with several high-profile players, including Fede Valverde and Vinícius himself, complaining about Alonso's tactics and instructions. The coach had started by giving pressure to Álvaro Valverde, but then moved him to full-back, which didn't quite work out either.

Alonso tried to instill a sense of discipline and structure in the team, but it seems that this was not enough to overcome the club's egos and individual player interests. The coach had even sought advice from his friend Pep Guardiola, who told him to "do it my way" - but Alonso ultimately couldn't control the players' expectations.

The final straw came after a defeat in a Champions League match, when Vinícius stormed down the tunnel after being removed by Alonso. The Brazilian then refused to give Alonso a guard of honour after the team's loss to Barcelona in the Super Cup final, a gesture that spoke volumes about the rift between player and coach.

In the end, Alonso's attempt to implement his vision for the club was met with resistance from the very players he had hoped would follow him. His departure is a stark reminder that being a manager at Real Madrid requires more than just tactical acumen - it demands a delicate balance of egos and personalities.

Idk what's going on with this Alonso guy... 7 months in and he's already out? 🤔 I mean, I get it, the team wasn't performing as well as expected, but couldn't he have at least tried to mix things up a bit? The article says he wanted players to "run" as one unit, but if that's not working, maybe try something else? 🤷‍♂️ And what's with all these egos in the team? Fede Valverde and Vinícius complaining about his tactics? That's just ridiculous...

So now Real Madrid is looking for a new manager. I wonder who they'll choose next... will it be someone who can actually manage the players, or just be a puppet for the board? 🤔 I need to see some stats on this before I form an opinion...

😬👀 can't believe Alonso's tenure ended like this 🤦‍♂️ all those promises about "running as one unit" and individual players dominating the game... meanwhile Mbappé & Vinícius were just chillin' scoring goals 😎 guess it's true what they say - at Real Madrid, it's not just about winning, but also about maintaining your ego 💁‍♂️💪 and honestly, I kinda feel bad for Alonso, he seemed like a nice guy 🤗 but i guess Pep's advice didn't quite work out for him 🙅‍♂️👎

can't believe Alonso lasted 7 months lol, i mean, he's got nothing on Del Bosque or Zidane to deal with those egos 🤣 anyway, think the club should have stuck to their guns and given him more time, maybe they didn't even know what his vision was 😅 gotta feel for the guy though, it can't be easy trying to change the culture of a team like Real Madrid. I've always thought Alonso would make a great manager outside of football tho, he's got that business sense 🤑

"Man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeated." 💔🏆

Alonso's tenure was marked by an attempt to adapt to the club's culture, but ultimately failed to gel. The club's egos and individual player interests proved too much for him to handle. It's a harsh reality that comes with managing at Real Madrid - you need more than just tactical acumen to succeed. 🤔

I'm not surprised about Xabi Alonso leaving Real Madrid 🤔. He tried to implement a new system, but the big-name players just aren't buying into it 💪. It's like they think they're above the team's goals. Fede Valverde and Vinícius Júnior are great players, but they need to learn to work together instead of individual heroics 🤦‍♂️. And what's with the drama over Alonso? A coach gets sacked and everyone's making a big deal out of it 🙄. The real issue is that Real Madrid needs someone who can manage the egos of these superstar players 👀. It's not just about Xabi Alonso's tactics, it's about finding a balance between the team's interests and individual player aspirations 💬.

Ugh, this is like every 2nd manager change 🤯! Alonso's whole "run as one unit" thing sounds super promising, but I guess it was all just too much for the big egos at Real Madrid 😂. You gotta love how he tried to get advice from Pep Guardiola - dude's like the master, what's next? Asking Messi for help with tactics? 🤣. Alonso's got a tough job ahead of him, but I'm not sure if any manager can tame those wolves 🐺💪. Real Madrid's all about individual brilliance, so you gotta wonder if they'll ever change that culture... probably not 🙄.

I'm telling you, this is exactly what's wrong with Real Madrid's leadership style 🤔. Florentino Pérez thinks he can just swoop in with some fresh face, like Xabi Alonso, and expect the team to magically gel? Newsflash: it doesn't work that way! 🚫

And now they're blaming Alonso for being too soft on the players' egos 😒. I mean, come on! If you want to get ahead at this club, you've got to be willing to make some tough decisions and ruffle a few feathers 👊.

But what's really telling here is how Alonso was basically held hostage by his own friend Pep Guardiola 🤝. That's not leadership, that's just coddling your mates. And don't even get me started on Vinícius storming off after being removed from the game... that's some serious attitude problem 💁‍♂️.

It's clear to me that Real Madrid needs a new approach - one that puts the team first and not individual player interests 🤝. Otherwise, they'll just keep going through managers like they're paper towels 👀.

🤔 so like, Alonso tried to bring this new vibe to Real Madrid where they all work together as one unit 🌈 but honestly it's super hard when you got players who are basically superheroes on the field 💪💥 like Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior 🇫🇷🇧🇷

📝 imagine a flowchart with Alonso at the top, and then you got these lines branching off to all these different paths where he tries to adapt to the culture 👣 but it's just too much for him 🤯

and can we talk about Vinícius' tantrums after being removed from the game 😩👎 like what even is that?

anyway, Alonso got fired 💔 and I guess this is a reminder that at Real Madrid you gotta be super careful with those egos 💁‍♂️ and it's not just about Xabi Alonso anymore 🤝

I'm not surprised they're struggling 🤔. It's like they think they can just put anyone in charge and magically fix the club, but it's not that simple. Alonso was trying to bring some discipline and structure, but when you've got players as talented as Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior, someone's gonna get in the way 🙄. It's all about individual egos at Real Madrid. They need to work on building a team culture that doesn't just revolve around who's scoring goals. Mark my words, they'll be back to being all over the place in no time 😒

I gotta say, Xabi Alonso's exit as Real Madrid manager is pretty sad 😔. I mean, he came in with some big promises about changing the team's culture, but it looks like it just didn't work out. The guys at the club are just too used to being stars and getting all the attention, you know? It's hard for a coach to impose their will when there's that much ego on the pitch 🤯.

I think Alonso was genuinely trying to create a team-first mentality, but it's tough when some of those big-name players aren't having it. Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior are scoring all the goals, so why bother with teamwork, right? 😂 It's not surprising that Alonso had trouble keeping everyone on the same page.

It's also interesting to see how much pressure comes with being a manager at Real Madrid. I mean, this is the club with a history of producing some of the world's greatest players - it's no wonder there are high expectations! Alonso got taken out by one bad match and now he's gone 💔.

omg did u know real madrid has 11 managers in 2 decades?? 🤯 florentino pérez needs to find the right guy lol they cant keep changing coaches like its nobodies business xabi alonso got roasted by pep guardiola himself and it just didnt work out 😂 what's up with real madrid players having egos that big? kylian mbappé and vinícius jr are goals but cmon guys 🤷‍♂️ coaching is not all about being friends with the player lol gotta bring some discipline to the squad 💪

I'm so sorry to hear about Xabi Alonso's exit 🤕... I mean, Real Madrid fans must be feeling pretty disappointed 💔. I think what's crazy is how quickly things changed after he took over – just over seven months feels like a blink of an eye ⏱️. It's not that his ideas were bad or anything, it's just that the club has a certain... let's say 'personality' 😂, and players can be super particular about their roles.

I mean, I've seen some coaches struggle to adapt to new teams before, but Alonso seemed like he was doing something fresh, trying to get everyone on the same page 📝. Still, it's clear that individual egos played a big role in his departure... and that guard of honour thing? Yeah, that says a lot 💁‍♂️.

It's not all doom and gloom, though! Real Madrid has had some incredible managers before Alonso – we just need someone who can get the team to gel 🤝. Maybe it'll be another coach with a similar vision? Only time will tell...

omg what else can u expect from real madrid lol theyve been thru so many managers already 💁‍♂️ this alonso guy tried his best but it was clear from the start that players like mbappé and vinícius r gonna do thier own thang 🤷‍♂️ didnt see how he could control all those egos tho 🙄 think its time for pep to step in again 💡 or maybe some1 else who can actually get the team 2 work together 🤝

🤔 I think Alonso's mistake was trying to control too much, you know? He wanted to change the way the team played, but he went about it in a super authoritarian way. Players at Real Madrid are used to doing things their own way, and that's just part of the club's culture 🏆

It's like when I'm trying to get my friends to do something for a group project - if they're not motivated, nothing's gonna happen 🤦‍♀️. Alonso needed to find ways to motivate his players, but instead he came across as all controlling and bossy. No wonder the players pushed back 💪

And yeah, it's crazy that Vinícius refused to give Alonso a guard of honour after the loss - that says a lot about how things were going behind the scenes 😬

🤯 can't believe Alonso lasted 7 months 🕰️! I mean, i get it, its tough to crack real madrid's code, but come on! ⚽️ he tried the "run as one unit" thing, but its clear the players just want to score goals & win trophies 💸. its not just about tactics, its about managing egos & personalities 🤪. Alonso thought he could do it his way, like pep guardiola told him to 🤝, but real madrid's a special case. any manager knows that getting the players on board is key 🔑. Alonso didn't quite do that, so yeah, i'm not surprised its over 🚫. hope xabi finds another team where he can be more himself 😐

🤕 Alonso's sacking is just another example of how hard it is to manage the egos of the world's biggest stars... like, what's next? The entire squad in revolt? 🚨 And poor Alonso was basically thrown under the bus by his so-called friend Pep Guardiola 🤝. Like, can't we learn from this that sometimes even the best tacticians just can't tame the beast that is Real Madrid's dressing room? 😩

idk how u can blame Alonso for everythin, hes got some big shoes 2 fill after benzema & co left. u gotta remember, real madrid's been on autopilot since that 2020 season. Alonso came in with a clear plan but wasnt given the time or resources to execute it. ppl r sayin he tried 2 adapt but really hes just bein too patient w/ all those players whos got more goals than assists lol. what i dont get is why u cant jus give the guy some credit? Alonso might not b the greatest manager but at least hes tryna put his mark on the club

🤔 real madrid is like a chess game, you gotta make moves to take down barca & champs league 🏆 but sometimes u gotta sacrifice ur own pawn 4 the greater good, lolol Alonso tried 2 implement his vision, but alvaro valverde got benched & vinicius got mad lolol it's all about egos in real madrid, u gotta have some big fish in ur team to make it work 🐟

I think this whole thing is a huge overreaction 🙄, Alonso was basically given a free pass to fail after winning the Champions League all those years ago. Everyone's expecting miracles from Real Madrid, but no one's putting in the hard work behind the scenes to make it happen. The players are just too good, and Alonso was clueless about how to handle them 😂. And btw, if Vinícius doesn't like being taken out of the game, maybe he should just step up his game instead of making a scene 🤷‍♂️. And honestly, I'm surprised the club didn't sack him sooner, considering how much drama he was causing 👀.
