You can now stream PS5 games you own over the cloud on the PlayStation Portal

Sony's PlayStation Portal, once seen as a limited remote play device for PS5 gamers with reliable internet connections, has taken another significant step forward. Effective immediately, subscribers to the premium tier of Sony's subscription service, PS Plus Premium, can now stream select digital games from their own library directly to the device via cloud streaming.

In theory, users were already able to play compatible games remotely on the Portal through their PS5 without the need for a stable internet connection. However, with this latest update, Portal owners can enjoy seamless streaming of select titles they already own, including popular games like "Astro Bot," "Borderlands 4," and "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth." These titles are among thousands supported by the service at launch.

While some games from the library may also be playable through cloud streams, newer first-party titles like those mentioned above weren't included. It remains to be seen how this new feature will benefit users with existing game libraries on their PS5 consoles.

What's notable is that this development brings the Portal closer to becoming a dedicated handheld device for gaming. Although it still requires a decent internet connection to ensure quality streaming, its capabilities have increased significantly since its initial launch.

Beyond gameplay features, Sony has also updated the Portal with additional functionalities. A new home screen now includes a search tab for quickly finding games available on the cloud, and users can enjoy 3D audio support when playing supported titles using wired headphones or specific headsets. Furthermore, there's a new passcode lock feature to enhance security.

Lastly, Sony has introduced features that allow users to make in-game purchases during streaming sessions without leaving the game, as well as join their friend's game from the Quick menu if they're also streaming the same title.

While a dedicated native PlayStation handheld remains a dream for some, the PlayStation Portal is now more appealing than ever. With these updates and its growing capabilities, it seems Sony is committed to bridging the gap between its current offerings and future devices that could potentially rival dedicated gaming consoles like the ROG Xbox Ally X.

omg I'm so stoked about this update for the PlayStation Portal ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ’ป! streaming games from my own library directly to the device without an internet connection is literally a dream come true ๐Ÿ˜. I've been using it for ps5 gaming and while it was cool, this new feature takes it to a whole new level ๐Ÿš€. can't wait to try out "Astro Bot" and "Borderlands 4" on my portal ๐Ÿ‘พ๐Ÿ’ฅ. the fact that they're adding more features like search tab, 3d audio support and passcode lock is also super cool ๐Ÿ˜Ž. I mean, who doesn't want to buy in-game stuff while streaming or join friends' games easily? ๐Ÿค‘๐Ÿ‘ซ this thing is getting closer to being a real handheld console and I'm hyped to see where Sony takes it next ๐Ÿ’ฅ

OMG I'm so stoked about this update ๐Ÿคฉ! The Portal just got a major upgrade and now we're talking seamless streaming of our own games on it? That's like, next level gaming for me ๐ŸŽฎ! And can we talk about the new 3D audio support? It's gonna take my gaming experience to the next level ๐Ÿ’ฅ! I'm also loving the search tab on the home screen - it makes finding games so much easier ๐Ÿค”. But what I think is really interesting is how this update is making me wonder if I even need a PS5 anymore ๐Ÿ˜‚. The Portal just got way more appealing, and I can see why Sony wants to bridge that gap between their current offerings and future devices...

I mean, I'm so glad they're finally making progress on the Portal thing! It's crazy how far it's come since it was first released... I remember when it was just a small remote play device, and now it's basically a cloud gaming station ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm not sure about this streaming feature though, it sounds like it could be kinda tricky to get working smoothly, especially if your internet connection is sketchy. But hey, at least they've added some new features that'll make it more user-friendly, like the search tab and 3D audio support ๐ŸŽง.

I'm still holding out for a native PlayStation handheld console though... I mean, can you imagine being able to play games on the go without having to worry about internet connectivity? ๐Ÿ˜’ It's still a dream for some of us, but maybe one day we'll see something that rivals those fancy Xbox Ally X devices ๐Ÿค–.

omg ๐Ÿคฏ this is crazy! they're basically making a handheld console without even calling it one ๐Ÿ˜‚ but seriously tho, the fact that you can stream your own games from ps5 to portal is a game changer (lol pun intended) and the addition of new features like 3d audio support and passcode lock is a major win for security ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ i mean, what's next? ๐Ÿค” will they add a micro sd card slot or something? idk but one thing's for sure, sony's playing it cool with this whole portal thing ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm lowkey hyped about this new update for the Portal ๐Ÿคฉ! Streaming games from your own library without needing a stable internet connection sounds like a total game-changer (lol, get it?) . I mean, think about it - you're on-the-go with your Portal, and you just wanna play some Astro Bot or Borderlands 4 in peace... now you can do that without being tethered to a console. And the addition of 3D audio support is a sick bonus ๐ŸŽง!

I'm not sure if it's gonna change my life or anything, but it's definitely an interesting development for gamers on-the-go. I mean, I'm still salty about how long it took Sony to realize that Portal could be more than just a novelty device . But hey, better late than never, right? ๐Ÿ‘

I'm not totally sold on this new Portal update ๐Ÿค”. I mean, streaming select games from my own library sounds cool and all, but what about those of us who don't have reliable internet? That's still a major issue for me. And why only popular games like Astro Bot and Borderlands 4? What about indie titles or newer releases? Don't they want to support smaller devs too?

Also, I'm not sure I buy the whole "it's getting closer to becoming a dedicated handheld device" thing ๐Ÿ˜’. It still needs a decent internet connection, and that's just gonna be a barrier for some users. And what about battery life? How long can you play on this thing without running out of juice?

I guess it's all about user experience now ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. If Sony can iron out those issues, I might be more on board with the Portal. But for now, I'm just gonna wait and see how it plays out ๐Ÿ‘€

omg i was literally thinking of getting a ps portal but didnt know if it was just for streaming games online now idk how i'm gonna keep up with all these new updates lol but tbh having the ability to stream my fave games without needing a stable internet connection sounds like a total game changer i mean who needs to sit in front of their tv anymore? anyway gotta get one of these things ASAP ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ“บ

omg this is insane how can they make streaming games from their own library so seamless? ๐Ÿคฏ I mean I was already a fan of the Portal but now it's literally becoming a handheld console... I'm low-key hoping for a proper portable PS5 tho, idk if this is enough to bridge the gap ๐Ÿ’ฅ and what's up with new game releases not being included in the streaming library?? still a solid update tho, 3D audio support is lit ๐ŸŽง
