IO Interactive has walked back its PC specs announcement for James Bond game '007 First Light', citing an internal miscommunication as the reason. The initial minimum and recommended hardware requirements were met with skepticism by the gaming community, who pointed out that running the game at 1080p with 60 frames per second would require at least 32GB of RAM and a GPU with 12GB of video ram.
The developer has revised these numbers down to 16GB of RAM and 8GB of VRAM respectively. They claim to have conducted a "thorough re-examination and additional testing" to arrive at the new specs.
However, it's hard not to question why it took IOI so long to address the issue. The original spec listing included an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, which has only 8GB of VRAM - far short of the required 12GB. This seemed like a glaring oversight that would have raised eyebrows even among casual observers.
Now, the minimum PC specs for 30 fps performance at 1080p are as follows: Intel Core I5 9500 or AMD Ryzen 5 3500 processor, 16GB RAM, 6GB video ram and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660, AMD RX 5700 or Intel Discrete GPU equivalent.
For a more ambitious 60 fps performance at 1080p, the specs are: Intel Core I5 13500 or AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor, 16GB RAM, 8GB video ram and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, AMD RX 6700 XT or Intel Discrete GPU equivalent.
IOI has apologized for any confusion caused by the initial specs announcement and promised to share more details about '007 First Light' ahead of its release on May 27. With RAM and GPU prices skyrocketing, it's hoped that IOI won't be asking for too much in terms of hardware to run the game at higher resolutions.
