2 National Guard members shot in Washington, D.C.; suspect in custody, identified as Afghan national

Two US National Guard members were attacked outside a Washington D.C. metro station yesterday in what authorities described as a deliberate ambush. The suspect, identified as an Afghan national, opened fire without warning on the two Guardsmen who were standing guard at the entrance to the metro stop.

The first victim, a female Guard member, was struck immediately and fell to the ground, suffering multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect, initially armed with four rounds in his handgun, took her fallen comrade's gun and continued shooting, targeting a second Guard member.

Incredibly, a third National Guard member, who was not injured, managed to return fire and critically wounded the suspect multiple times, ending the attack. The fact that the suspect had access to at least one firearm initially is a disturbing concern for law enforcement officials.

The two Guardsmen involved were not armed with the authority to make arrests as they were part of a high-visibility foot patrol focused on security presence rather than active policing. Despite this, their bravery and quick thinking undoubtedly prevented further harm and potentially saved lives in an otherwise chaotic scene.

An Afghan national is now in custody, according to authorities, highlighting the increasing number of individuals from countries other than the United States being linked to violent crimes in the city's capital.

๐Ÿคฏ this incident just got me thinking about how these National Guardsmen were basically put in harm's way for doing their job ๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ฅ they weren't even armed with the authority to make arrests, can you imagine having to rely on your wits and whatever else is available to protect yourself from a stranger who just starts shooting? it's crazy that one guy was able to get his hands on more than one gun and still managed to be taken down by another Guardsman ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ”ซ what does this say about the security measures in place around our public spaces? we need to be talking about how to improve those, not just focusing on punishing people who do these kinds of things ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’ก

man that's wild lol this guy just goes around wavin his gun like it's a toy ๐Ÿคฏ can't believe he took advantage of the guards not bein armed for arrest... I'm just glad that third guard dude showed up and was able to take him down, it could've been so much worse ๐Ÿ˜ท and now we gotta worry about some afghan national being involved in this kinda thing... I hope they get a good profile done on him ASAP ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This is getting crazy ๐Ÿ˜ฑ! I'm still trying to wrap my head around what happened yesterday at that metro station. I mean, who just walks up and starts shooting people? And what's even more disturbing is that the suspect took one of their gun victims' guns and kept going... it's like he was looking for a fight ๐Ÿคฏ.

But you know what really caught my attention - the fact that this happened to two guys who weren't even carrying guns. I mean, they were just there to make sure the area was safe and all. It's crazy how quickly things can escalate into chaos ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

And now we're hearing more about how there are other people from countries like Afghanistan who are involved in violent crimes here in DC? ๐Ÿค” Like, what's going on with that? Is it some kind of connection or just a coincidence?

I'm glad the third Guard member was able to step up and take down the suspect, but at the same time... this is just a big mess ๐Ÿ’ช. I need more info on how this happened and what's being done to prevent similar situations in the future ๐Ÿค”

Man... can't believe what happened at that metro station ๐Ÿคฏ. I'm glad those Guardsmen were able to respond so quickly and even out the situation. It's crazy how much danger they're putting themselves in just to keep people safe ๐Ÿ˜ฑ. And now we gotta deal with this guy who was armed and just started shooting willy-nilly... it's like he had no regard for human life whatsoever ๐Ÿšซ. I hope the Afghan national gets a good lawyer, though - being stuck in custody can be tough on people, you know? ๐Ÿ’”

I'm really worried about what's going on in DC ๐Ÿค•. It's not the first time something like this has happened and I don't think it's going to be the last ๐Ÿ˜”. What's even more concerning is that the guy who did it had access to a gun, which just highlights how easily those things can fall into the wrong hands ๐Ÿ’ฅ. The fact that our Guardsmen stepped up and tried to protect people despite not having the power to arrest him is just amazing ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's crazy that someone would try to attack innocent people like that...I mean, what's going on with some of these people? ๐Ÿคฏ

๐Ÿค• this is so worrying, i mean what if that guy wasn't even on the right path? you see, as a nation, we need to be careful about who we let in and how we make sure they're not gonna cause harm ๐Ÿšซ. those two guards were just doing their job, keeping people safe, and this is how they got ambushed ๐Ÿ’”. at least the third guard was able to step in and stop it from getting worse ๐Ÿ™, but it's still crazy that someone could just waltz into a crowded area with a gun ๐ŸŽฏ. law enforcement needs to be on high alert 24/7 โš ๏ธ. it's just not right that people are being linked to violent crimes from countries other than the US ๐Ÿค”. we need to find a way to keep everyone safe, no matter where they're from โค๏ธ.

I'm still trying to process this incident ๐Ÿคฏ... it's just so senseless. I mean, can you imagine walking into a metro station and having someone just open fire on you? It's like something out of a movie, but not the kind where the hero saves the day - more like the kind where the victim is left fighting for their life ๐Ÿ’”.

And the fact that this guy was able to get his hands on a gun in the first place is really concerning. I mean, we're already talking about increased security measures and stricter gun control laws, but it's hard to prevent someone from just getting their hands on a firearm if they're determined enough ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ.

But what really gets me is that these two guardsmen didn't even have the authority to make arrests, yet they still managed to save lives and stop the attack. It's such a testament to their bravery and training, but it also highlights just how vulnerable our law enforcement officers can be in situations like this ๐Ÿ™.

I'm not sure what the solution is here, but I do know that we need to be thinking about ways to prevent these kinds of incidents from happening in the future. We need to find a way to balance security with safety, and make sure that everyone feels protected, regardless of who they are or where they're coming from โค๏ธ.

๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ Can you believe that someone tried to take down two US National Guard members with a handgun? Like, what's next, trying to take on the Avengers with a Nerf gun? ๐Ÿ˜‚ The fact that the suspect took one of their guns and kept shooting is just plain crazy! And can we talk about how quickly things escalated? I mean, first guy gets shot, second guy takes his gun... it's like a real-life action movie! ๐ŸŽฅ But seriously, props to the third Guard member who stepped up and returned fire โ€“ that's some serious bravery right there! ๐Ÿ’ช And now we're hearing that this suspect might have been involved in other crimes? Like, what's going on with our global security? It's like we can't catch a break! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

this is getting crazy ๐Ÿคฏ, i'm glad that one of the guards was able to fight back and stop the shooter, it's like something out of a movie ๐Ÿ’ฅ. but at the same time, i feel bad for the guy who got shot first, poor thing ๐Ÿ˜”. and why does this keep happening in dc? seems like every other week there's some kind of shooting or attack ๐Ÿค•. anyway, glad that everyone is safe now ๐Ÿ‘, let's just hope it doesn't happen again anytime soon ๐Ÿ’”.

๐Ÿค” I'm not buying that this was just a random attack... like, what are the chances? One guy gets past security, takes out two guards, and then another guard just happens to be armed and ready to go? ๐Ÿ™„ It doesn't add up. And what's with the fact that he was able to access a gun in the first place? That's some crazy lax security if you ask me ๐Ÿ˜’. I mean, I get that we can't control everything, but shouldn't our military personnel be able to carry some basic gear just in case? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ It's all about weighing risks and preparedness...

idk about this attack tho... sounds super suspicious that some random Afghan dude just waltzed into a metro station and started shooting at our Guardsmen ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’€. i mean, what's the likelihood of him actually planning it out and knowing exactly where they'd be standing? not saying he's innocent or anything, but it does raise some red flags for me... and another thing, how did he even get his hands on a gun in the first place? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ law enforcement needs to get to the bottom of this ASAP.

Ugh, this just brings back all these crazy moments when I was a kid... like that time my little sister got into some weird stuff with her friends... anyway, what's up with this guy attacking two Guardsmen? ๐Ÿค” I mean, think about it, he just walks up to them and starts shooting without even warning? Like, what's his game? And the fact that the third Guardsman was able to take him down is pretty wild, but also kinda scary... I mean, what if that hadn't happened? ๐Ÿšจ It's like, we need to talk about why some of these guys are getting radicalized and turning into violent people. Is it something in their culture or upbringing? We can't just blame the individual without looking at the bigger picture, you know? ๐Ÿค

๐Ÿค” just read about this incident & gotta say its super concerning that someone with access to a gun just decided to attack random people outside a metro station like that... doesnt matter if you're from afghanistan or usa, violence is never the answer & we need to figure out why ppl are getting into these situations in the first place ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ugh, can you believe this? ๐Ÿคฏ A deliberate ambush outside a metro station? It's like something out of a bad movie! And what's with the suspect having access to a firearm? I mean, come on, it's not exactly rocket science... or should I say, not exactly national security 101. ๐Ÿ˜’ The fact that they weren't even armed with guns to make arrests and yet still managed to stop the guy is just incredible. I'm glad those two Guardsmen were okay, but seriously, how many more times do we need to see this kind of thing happen? And what's with the increasing number of international suspects being linked to violent crimes in DC? It's getting out of hand! ๐Ÿšซ

omg what's going on with these ppl?? ๐Ÿคฏ like literally just a day ago we're chillin and now there's an ambush at the metro station? it's so crazy that 3 national guardsmen jumped into action and saved lives! ๐Ÿ™Œ the fact that they weren't even armed for arrest situations is wild, but I guess that's what happens when you're in high-visibility patrols, right? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ and can we talk about how quickly this guy went from zero to hero... like literally, he returned fire on himself and took out the suspect?! ๐Ÿ’ฅ I'm just so grateful no one else got hurt. but seriously, this is a huge concern for law enforcement - how did this guy even get his hands on a firearm in the first place? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿšจ this is a total disaster, like what's going on with these attacks? and the fact that he got access to a gun already is super concerning ๐Ÿคฏ how did law enforcement even let this happen?! they need to get their act together ASAP ๐Ÿ’ช it's not just about the guardsmen who were attacked, think about all the innocent people who might've been caught in the crossfire... ๐Ÿค• and now we're seeing more foreign nationals linked to violent crimes? it's getting crazy over here ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

๐Ÿค• "The opposite of war isn't peace - it's preparation." ๐Ÿ’ช We need more training and preparedness for our security personnel to handle situations like this. It's heartbreaking that 2 lives were almost lost due to a single attack... we can't let fear dictate our daily lives, but rather learn from these incidents to stay safe ๐ŸŒŸ

omg ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ’ฅ just saw this news and i'm still trying to process it ๐Ÿคฏ like how can someone just go around ambushing people at a metro station? ๐Ÿ˜ก it's so scary! ๐Ÿ’” the fact that they were able to disarm the suspect is truly amazing ๐Ÿ’ช like, those guardsmen are true heroes โšฝ๏ธ

i know it's not just about the gun violence ๐ŸŽฏ but also about the trauma and fear that comes with it ๐Ÿค• and it's disheartening to hear about the rise of foreign nationals being linked to violent crimes ๐Ÿ˜• we gotta stay vigilant and support our law enforcement in every way possible ๐Ÿ’ฏ
