3 killed in Bronx over weekend, including in homeless shelter beating, NYPD says

Three people lost their lives in the Bronx over the weekend, according to NYPD officials. The violence unfolded in a series of incidents that left one man dead at a homeless shelter and another at an apartment building.

On Saturday evening, police responded to an emergency call about a 48-year-old man found unconscious in his bed at a men's shelter on Phelan Place. Witnesses reported that the victim had been attacked with a metal locker door while he was sleeping. The man was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Anthony Mawuena, a 37-year-old resident of the shelter, was arrested in connection with the incident and charged with murder, manslaughter, and possession of a weapon. Authorities say it's unclear if Mawuena knew his victim, but are investigating the circumstances surrounding their relationship.

Later that night, another man was found dead at an apartment building on East 162nd Street after being stabbed multiple times by Tyquan McBride, who had also been living in the building. The 48-year-old victim died at the scene, while a 39-year-old resident received several slashes to his arm and is listed as stable.

McBride faces multiple charges related to the fatal stabbing and is being investigated for any potential connection to the two victims. Police have not yet released information about McBride's relationship with his alleged victims.

Violence continued to erupt in the Bronx on Sunday evening, when police responded to a shooting inside a building on Southern Boulevard. Chanler Reams, a 25-year-old resident of the building, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not made any arrests yet, but are investigating a motive for the killing.

Three hours later, a separate shooting occurred on Brook Avenue, leaving two people and another man wounded. Two Bronx residents were arrested in connection with the incident: Jorge Correa, 23, and Jaden Hall, 18. They both face charges related to attempted murder and possession of a weapon.

The weekend's violence comes amidst a decline in homicides across the city so far this year, but problems persist in certain precincts where the incidents took place. The NYPD has reported that killings are down more than 17% compared to the same period last year, but some areas have seen an increase in violent crime.

Ugh πŸ€•, this weekend was just brutal in the Bronx... I feel so sad for those three families who lost their loved ones, it's just heartbreaking πŸ˜”. You'd think that with all the progress we're making as a city, we should be seeing fewer incidents like these, not more πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. It's like, what's going on? Is it a lack of resources in some areas? Mental health issues? I don't have the answers, but one thing for sure is that we need to keep working together as a community to find solutions and support each other πŸ’•. Those families deserve better than this πŸ’―.

I'm literally shook by these back-to-back incidents in the Bronx πŸ€•. Three lives lost in one weekend is just too much. It's like, what's going on with our city? We're seeing a decline in homicides overall, but this is just senseless violence that can't be ignored. The fact that two people are still out there, recovering from their wounds, and the families of those who lost their lives are left to pick up the pieces... it's heartbreaking πŸ’”.

I think we need to take a closer look at what's driving these incidents and whether our city is doing enough to address the root causes. Are we providing enough resources for our shelters and community centers? Are we doing enough to support mental health services and job training programs?

We can't just pat ourselves on the back because homicides are down overall; we need to be specific about what's working and what's not. The NYPD needs to get creative in their strategies, and we need to hold them accountable for keeping our communities safe.

The Bronx is supposed to be a vibrant, thriving borough, but it feels like violence has taken over πŸŒ†. We need to do better than this.

I feel bad for those families who lost their loved ones in the Bronx over the weekend 😞. It's just so sad and senseless violence can happen anywhere, you know? I'm not gonna jump to conclusions about Anthony Mawuena or Tyquan McBride, but it is really weird that these incidents are happening one after another in such close proximity πŸ€”. I mean, what's going on in some of these communities? It's like there's just a lot of anger and frustration building up... we need to figure out ways to address this before more lives get lost πŸ’”.

πŸ˜” it's just so sad when things like this happen in our communities. I mean, three lives lost already and it's only Sunday... my heart goes out to Chanler's family, poor guy was just 25 😒. And what's even more frustrating is that it seems like there are multiple cases all happening around the same time, like they're connected or something πŸ€”. I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but it feels like we're seeing this kinda stuff way too often these days... anyway, gotta keep an eye on the updates and see what the investigation comes up with πŸ‘€.

πŸ€• This is a real wake-up call for our city's safety and security. I'm not surprised to see Bronx residents losing their lives to senseless violence - it's like we're seeing a reflection of our society's broken social contract. We need to ask ourselves, what are we doing to address the root causes of this problem? Are we providing enough support for mental health services, job training programs, and affordable housing?

The numbers might be going down overall, but we can't ignore the pockets of violence that still exist. It's like our city is trying to balance the budget by cutting corners on community development and social programs. We need to think about how we're investing in our future - are we prioritizing the needs of the most vulnerable populations or just trying to put a Band-Aid on the problem?

It's time for us to have a real conversation about what it means to live safely in New York City. Do we have a public safety plan that addresses the systemic issues, or are we just reacting to the symptoms? 🚨

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ like, who else is surprised it's a bloody weekend in the Bronx already? Three lives lost in two days, and we're only halfway through the weekend πŸ•°οΈ. I mean, what's the deal with this violence? Can't these people just chill for one second? πŸ˜’ And Anthony Mawuena gets charged with murder over a metal locker door? Like, is that even enough to warrant a life sentence? πŸ€” Meanwhile, Tyquan McBride is probably out there getting some quality time with his lawyer... because he's got a whole lot of explaining to do πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ. This city's got problems, but at least the NYPD is trying to crack down on some of this stuff. Fingers crossed they can actually make a difference πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ€• The recent spate of violence in the Bronx is deeply troubling πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. It's clear that we need a multifaceted approach to address this complex issue, encompassing both community-based solutions and targeted interventions from law enforcement πŸš”. The statistics may indicate a decline in homicides overall, but the fact remains that lives were lost over the weekend, leaving families torn apart πŸ’”.

It's essential to examine the social determinants driving these incidents, including poverty, lack of access to resources, and mental health issues πŸ‘₯. By addressing these underlying factors, we can begin to dismantle the root causes of this violence 🌱. Furthermore, community-led initiatives that promote restorative justice, conflict resolution, and job training programs can help de-escalate tensions and foster a more peaceful coexistence among residents 🀝.

Ultimately, our collective efforts must prioritize empathy, understanding, and inclusivity 🌈. By working together, we can create safer spaces for everyone to thrive 🌟.

Man, it's been a wild weekend in the Bronx 🀯. I'm not surprised, though - we all know the violence is still out of control here. It's like these incidents are popping up left and right, no one knows who to trust anymore πŸ’”. And what's even crazier is that there's just not enough resources being put into addressing this issue. I mean, the NYPD can't even get a grip on it? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ They're saying it's down 17% compared to last year, but let's be real, that's like saying 'oh, we've solved the problem' when it's still clearly a mess πŸ˜’.

And can we talk about how these incidents are just so senseless? Like, what even is going on in those minds of some people? Is there no human decency left? 🀯 I'm not here to point fingers or stir up drama, but come on, guys - let's try to figure out a way to stop this madness before someone else loses their life πŸ’€. We gotta look beyond the numbers and get real about what's really going on in our neighborhoods πŸ‘Š.

I don’t usually comment but I just saw this news and it's really scary... Three lives lost in one weekend is a lot 😩. I'm not from New York but I can imagine how tough it must be for the people living there, especially in areas with high crime rates πŸ€•. It's like they say, when you see violence on TV or read about it online, it doesn't feel real until it happens to someone you know... or to your neighbor πŸ’”. Can't help but wonder what's driving all this violence and how can we stop it? πŸ€”

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ You know what's crazy? A homeless shelter is literally a house with no roof, and apparently, it's also where you can get murdered πŸ˜‚. I mean, who needs that kind of excitement when you're trying to sleep off your hangover? The Bronx is having some wild nights, but I guess you could say they're "stabbing" the competition with all this violence 🀣. Seriously though, my condolences go out to the families and friends of the victims. We just hope the NYPD can figure out who's behind all these incidents before someone else gets hurt πŸ’”.

πŸ€• This is just crazy... Three people lost their lives in the Bronx over the weekend and it's like, what's going on? 🚨 First guy was sleeping at a homeless shelter and got attacked with a metal locker door... then another dude gets stabbed to death in his apartment building. And now this other shooting that left one person dead... it just seems like violence is everywhere these days. πŸ€” I don't get why it has to be so senseless... can't we all just live in peace? πŸ˜”

Ugh 😩 it's just getting out of control 🀯 in the Bronx over the weekend. Three lives lost already? 😱 and it feels like the violence is only escalating πŸ’₯. I'm all for keeping our streets safe, but what's going on here? Is there something we're not being told? πŸ€” I mean, I know crime rates are down overall in NYC, but this stuff right here in the Bronx is just a different story 🚨. And it's not like we don't have enough resources already πŸ’Έ. What's the point of having an NYPD if they can't even stop this kind of thing from happening? 😀

I'm still trying to wrap my head around all these senseless deaths in the Bronx 🀯. I mean, it's like the violence just escalates and no one seems to be able to stop it. And what's with the arrests? Anthony Mawuena is charged with murder, manslaughter, and possession of a weapon... but did anyone think about how he was living in that homeless shelter before this happened? πŸ€” Was he just a victim himself?

And then there's Tyquan McBride, who allegedly stabbed two people to death. I feel so bad for the families of those victims, and also for the other guy who got slashed in the arm. What are we doing as a society that we can't even prevent this kind of violence from happening? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

I know the NYPD is reporting a decline in homicides overall, but that's not really reassuring when you see stuff like this going down in specific areas. It just feels like the system is failing these people... and we need to find better solutions to address the root causes of all this violence πŸ’”.

Man... these latest incidents in the Bronx are just heartbreaking πŸ€•. You got this sense of like, no one's safe anymore? Like, you're walking home from work and suddenly you're in the middle of a shooting 🚨. It's just so devastating. I keep thinking about Anthony Mawuena, the guy who stabbed that homeless shelter resident... did he not know his victim at all? And what was Tyquan McBride thinking, stabbing that other dude multiple times? 😩

It's like, we're making progress with homicides down 17% this year, but it's just a tiny fraction of the bigger picture. What's going on in those precincts that's causing people to lose their cool like that? I don't know any answers, but I think we need to keep talking about this and trying to find solutions 🀝.

It's all so... senseless. 😒

Ugh man I'm still tryna process what's been happening in the Bronx over the weekend πŸ€• it's like every night there was another senseless tragedy, and I keep thinking about those 3 people who lost their lives πŸ’” Anthony, that guy at the shelter, he just fell asleep and got stabbed with a metal locker door...and then on Saturday night, this other dude gets killed in his own apartment building after being stabbed multiple times 🀯 and what's even more devastating is that there was another shooting where Chanler Reams lost his life, and now I'm seeing those 2 Bronx residents getting arrested for attempted murder πŸš” but honestly it feels like no one's really addressing the root causes of this violence...it's like we're just treating the symptoms instead of tackling the problems head-on πŸ’Έ

πŸ˜”πŸ€• Oh man, it's like, what's going on with the Bronx?? 🀯 I'm literally shaking thinking about those innocent people who lost their lives over the weekend... 3 lives cut short, and it's just devastating! 😩 Anthony Mawuena and Tyquan McBride, they're both crazy for doing such things. Murder and manslaughter charges, and now multiple charges on them too... like, what's the point of that? πŸ™„ Can't we all just get along and not hurt each other? πŸ’” I mean, I love my city, but some days it feels like NYC is full of drama and violence... 😀

Ugh, can we talk about how outdated this forum still is? 🀯 I mean, I know the news isn't exactly related to our community, but it's still frustrating that I have to navigate through so many threads just to get to the actual content. Can someone please optimize the search bar or something?

Anyway, back to the news... This weekend's violence in the Bronx is absolutely devastating. Three people lost their lives and several others were injured. It's clear that there are deeper issues at play here, but it's also really concerning that we're seeing more incidents of violence in certain areas.

I'm not sure what's causing this decline in homicides across the city, but I hope the NYPD can get to the bottom of these cases ASAP. In the meantime, I just wish our forum was better equipped to handle discussions like this... πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

πŸ˜” This weekend's violence in the Bronx is truly devastating, with three lives lost and multiple injuries sustained. It's alarming to see a pattern of escalating tensions leading to fatal incidents, particularly in homeless shelters and apartment buildings. The fact that these events seem to be linked to resident relationships raises concerns about social cohesion and community dynamics.

As the city continues to work towards reducing homicides, it's crucial to address the underlying issues driving violent crime. The NYPD's 17% decline is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to support at-risk communities and provide resources for those struggling with mental health or substance abuse.

We must also acknowledge the intersectionality of these incidents, including poverty, lack of access to healthcare, and inadequate social services. Until we address these systemic issues, we risk perpetuating a cycle of violence that's difficult to break. πŸ’”
