A Brooklyn man, 22-year-old Jackson King, is facing charges in the gruesome stabbing death of his own grandmother, Julia Boomer, who was just 85 years old. The 79th Precinct police department has confirmed that King was taken into custody shortly after the attack on Tuesday night, but it took him until Friday for him to be formally charged with murder and a weapons offense.
According to police, Boomer suffered multiple stab wounds in the brutal attack, which is now being viewed as possibly linked to a psychotic episode endured by King. Police initially stated that they were investigating this possibility before announcing their decision to charge King on Friday.
Unfortunately, Boomer's death marked the first homicide of 2026 within the precinct, according to data released by the NYPD. Meanwhile, citywide homicides in 2024 and 2025 have been steady, with eight reported each year, a stark contrast to the over 20% decrease witnessed in 2025.
Attorney information for King remains unknown at this time.
