Champions League highlights to stay on BBC until 2031

BBC extends Champions League highlights deal until 2031.

The BBC has secured the rights to broadcast highlights of the men's Champions League for a further four seasons, taking it through to the end of the 2029-30 and 2030-31 campaigns. The company will provide free-to-air coverage of every Champions League game from 22:00 on Wednesday.

BBC Sport director Alex Kay-Jelski stated that this deal was essential in maintaining their extensive portfolio of football rights, including Premier League highlights and live FA Cup coverage.

For fans who cannot watch the full match, highlights will be available online, as well as through social media. A Match of the Day programme is also set to air on BBC One after the news, covering every goal and reaction from that week's Champions League fixtures.

The deal complements the existing domestic football rights and reinforces the BBC's position in the UK football broadcasting market, despite a recent deal for Champions League matches being won by US media giant Paramount.

So, I mean, it's no surprise that the BBC is getting this deal, right? They've got such a huge following for football already πŸ€”. But still, four more seasons of highlights coverage is a pretty big commitment. What do you think about this though? Do you actually watch the Champions League or just the highlights on Match of the Day? I mean, some people might be like "meh" and not care too much, but for others it's like a weekly highlight reel that's super popular πŸ“Ί. It's also interesting to see how they're planning to make it more accessible online - do you think that'll change the way we consume football highlights? πŸ‘€

🀯 can't believe the BBC got this deal 4 more seasons!!! i mean its about time we get to see all those sick goals on tv without having to watch the whole match πŸ†πŸ˜‚ they're gonna make it available online too so even us lazy ones can still catch up πŸ‘ and thats good news for uk football fans cos premier league highlights are a big deal for me πŸ’₯ my only worry is that the bbc might not do it justice like sky sports does πŸ”΄πŸ‘Ž but overall its gonna be awesome 🀩

idk why bbc gets all the highlights deals tho... dont get me wrong its awesome theyre gonna keep showing those goals but cant they share it with other channels? feels like exclusive rights is so old school πŸ€”. anyway, a match of the day show after every champions league game sounds lit πŸ”₯. its not just about the games themselves, its about the community that comes with it too. what do u think will happen when more american channels start showing these matches tho? πŸ“ΊπŸ’Έ

πŸ† I'm so stoked about this news! The BBC getting these highlights deals is just a win-win for fans. I mean, who doesn't love watching the beautiful game, even if they can only catch bits of it? 🀩 And now we get to see all the juicy moments replayed on Match of the Day – I'm already looking forward to this week's episode! The BBC's got an awesome portfolio of football rights and this deal just solidifies their position as the go-to broadcast for UK footy fans. Plus, it's free-to-air, so everyone can enjoy it without breaking the bank πŸ’Έ. Bring on the Champions League highlights from 2031 πŸ“Ί!

I'm so glad they're keeping the highlights on the BBC πŸ™Œ! It's crazy that other platforms like social media aren't always accessible to everyone, especially if you can't afford internet or cable. Having them available for free is a big deal for fans who just want to see their favorite teams do well πŸ‘. And yeah, it makes sense that they'd want to keep all these rights in-house – it's not like there's some huge conspiracy going on πŸ˜‰. But seriously, the BBC has always been about bringing sports to the masses and providing good coverage, so I'm happy with this deal. Fingers crossed they can do something similar for other underrepresented groups or sports 🀞

I'm so hyped about this news 🀩! I mean, can you imagine not getting to see all those amazing goals and highlights from the Champions League? It's like Christmas came early for football fans in the UK! πŸ˜„ The BBC always does a great job with their sports coverage, and it's awesome that they're committing to showing us more matches. Plus, having the highlights online and on social media is gonna make it way easier to watch your favorite teams without missing out on any action ⚽️. I'm also loving how this deal solidifies the BBC's position in the market – it's always been a bit of a rivalry with other networks, but now they're just killing it πŸ’₯!

awww man... cant believe the champions league highlights are gonna be on bbc for so long πŸ™ŒπŸΌ... its like the perfect spot to catch up on all the goals and magic if u miss a match 😊... and yeah, having them online too is super convenient πŸ’»... makes it even easier to watch with friends or family who dont live in uk anymore πŸ€—... anywayz, cheers to more awesome football coverage for us bbc fans πŸ‘πŸΌ

Just saw this news πŸ˜‚, I'm like "Yaaas, more footy on my screen!" πŸ“Ί The BBC getting an extension till 2031 is a win-win for both them and fans like us who can't catch every match live. Free-to-air coverage and online highlights are gonna be a lifesaver for people who miss the full game πŸ˜…. And let's be real, Match of the Day is always lit πŸ”₯ - I'm so stoked they're keeping that programme going! πŸ‘ It's all about giving us more options to watch our favourite teams in action πŸ’ͺ.

can you believe it? they're gonna be showing us champions league highlights till 2031 🀯 that's like, almost two decades from now πŸ˜‚ i mean what's next? they'll be replaying old premier league games from the mid 90s πŸ™„ or something like that. but for real though, i'm glad we got this deal. it's good to know that bbc is still gonna be there to bring us all the action, even when the rest of us are too old and tired to care πŸ˜…

I'm still confused about why they're keeping the highlights deal going until 2031 πŸ€”. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love watching Match of the Day and reliving all the best bits from a match... but four more seasons is just so long ⏰. It's like they're trying to lock in football fans for life! πŸ˜‚ And what about when the kids grow up and want to watch actual full matches instead of just highlights? Will we be stuck watching old highlights on repeat forever? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

I'm not sure why they need to keep it for so long πŸ€”, I mean, fans have seen enough highlights already πŸ˜‚. But at the same time, I guess it's good that we'll still get some coverage of the big games even if we can't watch 'em live πŸ’•. And yeah, Match of the Day is always a highlight (no pun intended) after the main event πŸ“Ί.

I'm kinda stoked about this news πŸ€”... I mean, who doesn't love watching football highlights on TV? πŸ† But seriously, it's great that the BBC is committing to showing all these awesome games, even if they can't watch 'em live. Like, imagine not knowing what happened in a match because you missed it and had to wait till later... 😬

And I'm curious about this deal with Paramount... how did that affect the BBC's ability to secure this new deal? πŸ€” Was there competition involved or was it more of a friendly agreement? πŸ’Έ Should we be worried about more big media companies coming in and changing the face of football broadcasting in the UK? 🀯

And what about online coverage, though? Will all these highlights be available for free on the BBC website or will they charge us fans to watch 'em? πŸ“Ί I hope it's still free-to-air, that'd be awesome! πŸ’–

i mean whats the point of having highlights on tv when ur gonna watch em online 2? its just so much easier to skip to the good bits, you know? and social media has made it even more convenient... we can get all the highlights in like 30 secs, no need 4 a full bloomin match! πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I'm so hyped about this news 🀩! The BBC getting to keep the rights to Champions League highlights is a huge win for fans like me who can't always watch the full match πŸ“Ί. I mean, let's be real, sometimes you just wanna see the cool goals and not have to sit through an hour of boring build-up 😴. And now we get to enjoy it all on BBC One, with Alex Kay-Jelski saying it's essential for their portfolio - fair enough in my book πŸ€‘. Free-to-air coverage is a bonus too, so everyone can enjoy the highlights without breaking the bank πŸ’Έ. Can't wait for Match of the Day to kick off after each match, too!

I'm so stoked they're keeping the Champions League highlights on the BBC πŸ™Œ! I mean, who doesn't love watching the best of the best in European footy? It's always such a thrill to see those high-energy matches played out, even if you can only catch a glimpse. And with it being free-to-air, that's just fab for us Brits who don't have the cash to fork out for premium sports channels.

I'm also glad they're going all out with social media coverage – live clips and whatnot will make sure we get all the highlights, even if we miss the full match. It's such a convenient way to stay up-to-date on our beloved football teams! And of course, who can forget the iconic Match of the Day? πŸ“Ί Always a highlight (heh) for any footy fan.

I'm not stoked about this news πŸ€”. Like, I get it, more Champions League highlights are a good thing for football fans, but is it really necessary to extend it until 2031? Can't they just let the other streaming services and TV channels have a go? It feels like the BBC is trying to corner the market on all things football πŸ†. And what about the environment? All those extra broadcasts are gonna burn some serious watts πŸ’‘. Not to mention, I'm starting to think that the highlights deal is just a money pit for the BBC...

I'm so stoked about this news 🀩! The BBC is basically the go-to place for all things footy in the UK, and having those Champions League highlights on their platform for another 4 years is just awesome. I mean, who doesn't want to relive their favorite match or see some crazy goals again? πŸ˜‚ And it's not just about watching the full match, because let's be real, sometimes you're too knackered to sit through the whole thing, so highlights are a must! 🀣 Plus, getting those matches on social media is a genius move, I love how they're making football more accessible for everyone. It's also great to see the BBC keeping their foot in the door when it comes to football broadcasting – I mean, Paramount might've won that other deal, but the BBC is still the king in my books πŸ‘‘!

I'm actually kinda bummed about this news πŸ€”. Four more years of overpriced highlight packages? It feels like we're getting stuck in some never-ending loop of repetition. Can't they just stream the full matches online or something for once? I mean, I love a good match of the day, but come on! πŸ™„ And what's with the free-to-air coverage only starting at 10pm? Are we really that desperate to watch football highlights after our workday is over? 😴

I'm telling you, this is just another example of how our beloved institutions are being slowly manipulated... I mean, I love the BBC as much as the next guy, but think about it - they're locking down these exclusive rights to Champions League highlights for an entire decade! It's like they're trying to monopolize the football broadcasting market and control what we see. And don't even get me started on the fact that they'll be making all this content available online... just waiting to swoop in and sell us ads, right? πŸ€‘ I'm not saying it's a bad thing or anything, but let's keep an open mind, folks! There's gotta be more to this deal than meets the eye... πŸ˜’
