BBC extends Champions League highlights deal until 2031.
The BBC has secured the rights to broadcast highlights of the men's Champions League for a further four seasons, taking it through to the end of the 2029-30 and 2030-31 campaigns. The company will provide free-to-air coverage of every Champions League game from 22:00 on Wednesday.
BBC Sport director Alex Kay-Jelski stated that this deal was essential in maintaining their extensive portfolio of football rights, including Premier League highlights and live FA Cup coverage.
For fans who cannot watch the full match, highlights will be available online, as well as through social media. A Match of the Day programme is also set to air on BBC One after the news, covering every goal and reaction from that week's Champions League fixtures.
The deal complements the existing domestic football rights and reinforces the BBC's position in the UK football broadcasting market, despite a recent deal for Champions League matches being won by US media giant Paramount.
