Iranians being kept in the dark about crackdown, observer says

Iran's government is using a clever tactic to avoid transparency: restricting the internet and keeping key information from its citizens. According to Kevan Gafaïti, a lecturer at Sciences Po Paris who recently left Iran, many Iranians are being intentionally misinformed about the ongoing protests and brutal crackdown by authorities.

By cutting off access to the internet, the Iranian government has effectively silenced its population's ability to organize and share information in real-time. This blackout is allowing the regime to control the narrative and keep its citizens from getting the full picture of what's happening on the ground.

Gafaïti's testimony highlights the difficulties faced by ordinary Iranians trying to get news about the protests, which have been met with severe repression by security forces. With the internet unavailable, it's difficult for people to know whether they are being targeted by authorities or if their loved ones are safe. This lack of transparency is not only damaging but also fueling widespread fear and uncertainty among the population.

This blackout tactic may seem like a sophisticated tool, but it ultimately serves as a reminder that truth often lies in plain sight when one takes the time to look beyond official statements. By denying its citizens access to information, the Iranian government is perpetuating a culture of secrecy and mistrust – a concerning trend in an already volatile situation.

idk how ppl r suppost 2 know whats goin on in iran wen they cant even google it lol. i mean, dont get me wrong, its bad 4 the ppl who r gettin targeted or killed by security forces, but this whole internet blackout thingy is just plain sus. its like, if u wanna keep ur citizens in the dark, thats fine, but at least b honest about it, ya know? instead theyre just makin stuff up & expectin ppl 2 believe it. newsflash: we r not born yesterday 🤷‍♀️💻

🚫 this is sooo not a clever tactic, it's like they're trying to pull a fast one on their own people. I mean, what's next? They'll tell everyone the protests are being held peacefully when really they're just cracking down hard 💪 and no internet access is just gonna make things worse. I've got friends who live in Iran and trust me, they need to know what's going on. All this secrecy is just gonna fuel more dissent & unrest 🔥.

I'm not surprised they're doing this 🤥. It's like they think we can't figure out what's going on even if we don't have all the info online. Like, come on, people are smart enough to piece together some stuff with no internet. This is just them trying to control every aspect of our lives and hide the truth from us. And good luck to anyone who tries to get news in person – the security forces will be watching you too, I'm sure 🕵️‍♂️. It's all about maintaining power and keeping us ignorant.

I FEEL SO SAD FOR THE IRANIANS WHO ARE TRYING TO GET BY ON A DAILY BASIS BUT CAN'T BECAUSE OF THIS BLACKOUT 🤕. IT'S LIKE THEY'RE BEING CUT OFF FROM THE WORLD AND FROM EACH OTHER. I MEAN, WE HAVE SOCIAL MEDIA AND NEWS OUTLETS HERE IN THE WEST THAT KEEP US INFORMED 24/7, WHY CAN'T THE IRANIANS HAVE THAT SAME ACCESS TO INFORMATION?! IT'S NOT FAIR AND IT'S NOT RIGHT. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE WORKING TO TRANSPARENCY RATHER THAN TRYING TO CONTROL WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE PROTESTS.

It's so sad to think about what's happening in Iran right now 🤕. I mean, you'd think that with all the tech advancements, they should be able to get info out there, but nope! They're just using internet blackout as a way to control people's minds. It's like, yeah, we can see what's going on online, but it's not always true, and that's so frustrating 🤯.

I remember when I was younger, we didn't have all this fancy tech, and we still managed to get news out there somehow. So, it's crazy how far technology has come, yet the same old tactics are being used. The people of Iran deserve so much better – transparency, honesty, freedom to express themselves... can't we just wish for that? 🤞
