Federal judge orders Trump to stop targeting UCLA with alleged discrimination claims. A US federal judge has ruled that former President Donald Trump cannot fine the University of California or cut off its federal funding over allegations of allowing antisemitism and other forms of discrimination. The university was targeted by the administration in 2021, and a court ruled last year that the school had done nothing wrong.
The decision comes after Trump's administration issued fines to several universities over issues with free speech, including UCLA. However, the federal judge, Rita Lin, rejected these claims, stating that they were not supported by "substantive evidence".
In her ruling, Judge Lin said: "I am convinced, based on a thorough review of all the relevant documents and expert opinions, that there was no substantiating evidence to support the claim of discrimination."
