LIV Golf: Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cam Smith opt against PGA Tour return

Major golfers Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Cam Smith have dealt a blow to the PGA Tour's attempts to lure back former members with a special returning member programme.

The three top players are set to remain with LIV Golf, having rejected the offer to return under the new initiative. The PGA Tour had extended an olive branch to Rahm, DeChambeau and Smith in a bid to entice them back onto its ranks.

Brooks Koepka's recent return to the American circuit after quitting LIV Golf for family reasons set off the chain of events. In response, the PGA Tour opened its doors to other major winners who had left the tour.

However, Rahm stated he wished his former countryman Brooks "the best" but was "not planning to go anywhere." The Spaniard emphasized that he is focused on LIV Golf for this year and hopes to repeat as champions with his team.

DeChambeau pointed out that he has a contract through 2026, making it unlikely that he would rejoin the PGA Tour. He expressed excitement about competing in this year's tournament. Meanwhile, Australian Smith confirmed he had "made a decision" and will remain on LIV Golf for years to come.

Rahm, DeChambeau, and Smith are all eligible under the new returning member programme that was introduced by the PGA Tour. The initiative is available only for the 2026 season, with no promise of future openings.

Only players who have been away from the tour for at least two years and won major championships between 2022 and 2025 were eligible to take advantage of this offer. Phil Mickelson ruled himself out due to his six major wins prior to 2021.

The PGA Tour chief executive Brian Rolapp acknowledged that the initiative was a "one-time, defined window" with no precedent for future situations.

I'm so bummed about these top golfers leaving LIV Golf πŸ€• I mean, can you blame them? The PGA Tour is basically begging to take back their old stars and they're just like 'no thanks' πŸ˜’ Rahm's focus on winning with his team is really cool, though. And DeChambeau has a solid contract, so why change horses mid-stream? 🐎 I'm loving the competitive vibes of LIV Golf, and I think these guys are gonna crush it this year πŸ’ͺ Brooks Koepka's return was kinda surprising, but good on him for prioritizing family life πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Maybe one day we'll see a PGA Tour revival, but for now, LIV Golf is where it's at πŸ†

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised that Rahm and DeChambeau aren't taking advantage of that "one-time, defined window". Like, they've both made it pretty clear where their loyalties lie, but you'd think there would be some kind of sweet incentive to come back for a season πŸ€”. LIV Golf's got them pretty locked in now, and it's hard to blame them for wanting stability. Smith seems like he's good on that too...I mean, if they're not gonna be swayed by the PGA Tour's offer, I guess you can't force someone to come back 😊. It'll be interesting to see how this whole thing plays out, though πŸ‘€

πŸ€” so i'm thinkin, what's the real reason they're stayin' at LIV Golf? is it just about the money or is there somethin else goin' on? like, these guys are superstars, they could easily choose the PGA Tour if they want to. but nope, they're stickin' with their new gig. maybe it's 'cause they don't wanna deal with all the drama and politics that comes with bein' part of a big tour? or maybe it's just cuz they like the freedom of playin' on their own schedule... idk, i'm just curious to see how this whole thing plays out πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€” LIV Golf is like a big ol' magnet for top golfers and it's pulling them away from the PGA Tour 🌊. I mean, who wouldn't want to be part of that lucrative league and compete against the best? πŸ€‘ Rahm, DeChambeau, and Smith are all in, no questions asked πŸ’―. The PGA Tour is trying to lure them back with a special program, but it's like trying to put toothpaste back in the tube πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out πŸ“ˆ https://www.golf.com/story/pga-tour-returning-member-program-jon-rahm-bryson-dechambeau-cam-smith

I'm kinda surprised they're not coming back πŸ€”... I mean, it's like, what's the harm in having them on board again? πŸ€‘ But at the same time, can we blame 'em? LIV Golf has been pretty generous πŸ’Έ and has some great perks too. Like, who wouldn't want to play with that kind of money and talent pool? πŸ’₯ On the other hand, it's not like they're going to lose out on too much by staying put... I mean, have you seen the prize purses on LIV Golf? πŸ€‘ It's pretty competitive... I guess what I'm trying to say is, who knows, maybe they just wanna keep their options open? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€” This is crazy 🀯, I'm loving how competitive it's getting in golf πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ. With Rahm, DeChambeau and Smith staying put, the PGA Tour just threw their hands up in the air πŸ‘‹. Can't say I blame them tho, those guys are already raking it in πŸ’Έ. And let's be real, who wouldn't wanna stay on LIV Golf with all that $$$ πŸ’°? Still think Koepka made a smart move πŸ€” going back to the PGA Tour for family reasons. Guess you could say this whole thing just got even more interesting 😏.

These three golfers are totally ghosting the PGA Tour lol πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. I mean, they had an amazing offer to come back and now it's all up in the air πŸ’₯. Brooks Koepka's return was a big move for the PGA Tour, but this rejection from Rahm, DeChambeau and Smith is like, a major blow 🀯. LIV Golf has clearly got them feeling some type of way πŸ”₯.

I'm not surprised though, these guys are pros, they know what's best for their careers πŸ’Έ. And let's be real, the PGA Tour can't compete with that LIV Golf money πŸ’ΈπŸ’ΈπŸ’Έ. It's all about the benjamins baby πŸ€‘.

I mean, I just dont get it... if you're good enough to make it in LIV Golf, why bother coming back? It's like they're trying to hold onto past glories or something πŸ˜‚. These top players are making bank on the new tour and I'm not sure the PGA Tour can compete with that. And what's with this "one-time, defined window" thingy? Sounds like a cop-out to me πŸ€”. Just give up already!

Man I'm thinking the PGA Tour might wanna rethink their strategy here πŸ€”. It's like they're trying to lure them back with an open arm but Jonny, Bryson and Cam are good with LIV Golf for now πŸ™. Can't say I blame 'em either, LIV has been making some big moves and it seems like they're on the rise πŸ’ͺ. Brooks Koepka's return did shake things up tho πŸ‘€, but I guess you can't please everyone, right? Maybe the PGA Tour should just focus on getting more guys to join their tour instead of trying to get existing ones to come back πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. At the end of the day it's all about what makes 'em happy and fulfilled on the course πŸ’•.

so i'm reading this and it's like... people have choices and they're not afraid to make 'em 😊. these golfers are all grown adults making decisions about their careers and lives, and sometimes that means taking a risk or staying the course. brooks koepka came back to the pga tour for family reasons, but for the others, it's different. they've got their own goals and ambitions with liv golf, and that's cool. it's not always easy to say no, especially when there's an offer on the table πŸ€‘. but these guys seem to be happy with where they are, and that's what matters most. life is about making choices and living with the consequences, so let's all take a page from their book and be confident in our own decisions πŸ’ͺ.

I'm shocked LIV Golf is pulling the plug on trying to bring back those top golfers 🀯. It's like they thought it was gonna be a free pass or something πŸ€‘. I mean, you can't blame them for wanting to keep their stars, but come on, PGA Tour had some decent offers out there too πŸ™„. The thing that really gets me is that Brooks Koepka's return made all this possible...like he's the one who "made it happen" or something πŸ’ͺ. Newsflash: golfers are athletes with their own interests and priorities! Can't force someone to come back to a tour if they've got other commitments πŸ“….

man... just what i'm saying about the power of player unionization 🀯! these guys are setting the tone and not backing down from liv golf. it's like they're saying, "no, thanks, we've got our own thing going on" 😎. and i gotta say, i'm a little disappointed in the pga tour for trying to lure them back like this... it just comes across as desperate πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. but hey, more power to rahm, dechambeau, and smith for sticking it out with liv golf πŸ’ͺ. it's gonna be interesting to see how the pga tour adapts to losing these top players πŸ‘€

πŸ˜’ I just don't get it... back in my day, we didn't have all these new tours and breakaway leagues. We stuck with what we knew and loved. These guys are making bank playing golf on both sides of the Atlantic. πŸ€‘ It's not like they need the money or anything! And now they're just going to leave again? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ LIV Golf is all well and good, but can't they just play for one day without having a drama? πŸ™„ The PGA Tour had an offer, but I guess it was too little, too late. Now they've lost three big guns in one go. It's like the Wild West out there! 🀠

omg 🀯 those 3 golfers are def not gonna jump ship from LIV Golf πŸ’ͺ i mean, Rahm said he's all in on LIV this year and doesn't wanna leave his team 🀝 dechambeau has a contract till 2026 so it's hard to imagine him coming back πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ smith just confirmed he's sticking with LIV for good ⚑️ i guess the pga tour is just gonna have to wait and see if other big names jump in πŸ‘€

πŸ€” These three golfers are like the ultimate test case for the new returning member programme. I mean, if they're not gonna jump at the chance to come back to the PGA Tour, what's the point? It's like throwing money at a stone wall. The fact that Brooks Koepka's return sparked this whole thing just shows how desperate the tour is. But let's be real, these guys are LIV Golf's top dogs now and they're not gonna bail anytime soon. πŸ’Έ I'm all for competition and choice, but come on, if you can't compete with the best (i.e. Rahm, DeChambeau, Smith), maybe it's time to rethink your strategy. πŸŒοΈβ€β™‚οΈ

Ugh, this is like, so frustrating 🀯! I get it, golfers have their own lives and choices, but it feels like the PGA Tour is trying to strong-arm them back in, when they've already made up their minds about LIV Golf. And now, Brooks Koepka comes back and suddenly everyone's all excited? It just seems like they're playing with fire πŸ”₯... I mean, what's the point of having a "returning member programme" if you know it's only for this year? It feels like a last-ditch effort to poach some top players. And let's be real, it's not like these guys are just going to join up and play nice 🀝... They're making their own decisions here, and we should respect that.

πŸ€” I feel like LIV Golf has got this one right πŸ’― They offered these top players a chance to return, and it's clear they're not interested πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. The PGA Tour trying to buy them back is kinda desperate 😩. Brooks Koepka's return was a nice gesture, but I don't think it's gonna make a difference. DeChambeau's contract situation just makes him less likely to jump ship πŸ“.

I'm actually kinda excited about LIV Golf now πŸ’₯ With top players like Rahm and Smith committing long-term, I think we might see some new faces in the next few years πŸ”₯. The PGA Tour can keep trying to lure them back, but it's time to stop chasing these guys and focus on finding fresh talent πŸŽ―πŸ‘

can we get a link to this news? i need to fact check this πŸ“° and it seems like it's only available on lfg golf site not many other major outlets are covering this πŸ€” what's the real reason behind pga tour trying to lure back these players? is it just about getting them to compete or there's something else going on πŸ€‘

aww man... looks like Rahm, DeChambeau & Smith are solidly stuck on LIV Golf πŸ€• that returning member prog isn't gonna be enough to win them back over... can't say I'm surprised tho, PGA Tour's been struggling to keep top talent for ages πŸ˜’
