A tragic accident on Chicago's scenic DuSable Lake Shore Drive left one person dead and four injured in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to police, a driver lost control of his vehicle around 2:20 a.m. in the 2500 block near Soldier Field, careening into a pole before striking a median.
The force of the crash was reportedly severe enough to cause "traumatic injuries" to one passenger, who was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where sadly, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. Three other adult passengers were also taken to the same hospital but are currently in good condition.
While two lanes of traffic on DuSable Lake Shore Drive remain closed following the incident, they have since reopened. The CTA's Jackson Park Express and Jeffery Jump buses were temporarily rerouted around the accident site near 27th Street before resuming their regular routes once safety was deemed sufficient.
Local authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution while traveling on the affected stretch of road until further notice.
