Pingree Detroit to Open Flagship Store on Veteran's Day, Bringing Sustainable Fashion to The District Detroit

Pingree Detroit, a worker-owned footwear company that supports U.S. military veterans and employs Detroiters, is set to open its first flagship store in The District Detroit development near Little Caesars Arena. The new shop will be located at 22 W. Columbia St. and will feature a showroom and workshop where customers can watch artisans craft products.

Co-founder and CEO Jarret Schlaff describes the company's energy as "incredible" right now, citing the city's thriving atmosphere as a key factor in its success. Pingree Detroit is not only committed to sustainability but also prioritizes transparency, with 77% of profits being shared or reinvested locally.

The company boasts that over 55,000 pounds of recycled materials have been diverted from landfills to make handcrafted footwear, bags, and accessories. In addition to retail, the space will host "Footwear Fridays" where customers can meet their makers and watch artisans at work.

Schlaff emphasizes the importance of worker ownership in driving success, stating that it's an "economic survival strategy." The company's commitment to community is reflected in its pop-up event on November 10th at Little Caesars Arena, featuring a limited-edition collection with the Red Wings in celebration of their 100th season.

A portion of proceeds from this pop-up will benefit local charities supporting veterans. By opening its flagship store on Veteran's Day, Pingree Detroit is solidifying its presence in The District Detroit and continuing to make a positive impact on the community it serves.

I'm so down for Pingree Detroit opening up shop on Veteran's Day 🀩 but like, isn't that kinda exploiting the whole veteran vibe? I mean, I love that they're supporting local charities, don't get me wrong, but is it too much to ask for a genuine connection between the brand and the community? At the same time, I'm all about sustainability and transparency - 77% of profits shared locally? That's awesome! 🌟 But, on the flip side, isn't worker ownership just another way to say 'we're not paying our employees enough'? Ugh, my mind is totally torn on this one 🀯

I mean, I'm loving this vibe! A worker-owned company like Pingree Detroit is really making a difference in Detroit. I remember when I was a kid, my grandma used to work at Ford, and she always said that the people who made a real impact were the ones who owned their own businesses. It's awesome to see them succeeding and giving back to the community. And, you know, sustainable fashion is so important nowadays. We need more of these kinds of companies leading by example.

I'm also loving the fact that they're opening up this store right in The District Detroit. It's gonna be a hub for creativity and innovation, and I can already imagine how cool it's gonna be to check out their flagship store. And the "Footwear Fridays" thing is genius! Who wouldn't want to meet the makers behind those awesome products? πŸ€‘πŸ‘Ÿ

I don’t usually comment but I think it’s really cool that Pingree Detroit is doing this sustainable thing with their shoes... I mean, who wouldn't want to shop from a company that’s actually helping out the community? The fact that they’re worker-owned and all that jazz just makes me feel good about buying something. And 77% of profits being shared locally is no joke! It's like they're really living up to their name, you know? I think it's awesome that they're getting this pop-up event going on with the Red Wings too... what a great way to celebrate their anniversary and support some good causes at the same time 🀩

I think this is a total game-changer for Detroit! I mean, who doesn't love sustainable fashion, right? 🀩 But seriously, this is all about creating jobs and stimulating local economic growth. Worker ownership like this is a huge pro for communities, it keeps the dough local and gives people a stake in their community's success. And let's be real, 77% of profits being shared or reinvested locally is like a nice little slap in the face to corporate greed πŸ€‘.

But what really gets me excited is the emphasis on transparency and accountability. I mean, we've all been burned by corporations before, so it's refreshing to see someone doing things differently. And the fact that they're using recycled materials to make their products? That's just plain cool, dude! πŸ’š

And have you seen the pop-up event with the Red Wings? That's some solid community-building right there. I think this is exactly what we need more of in America: businesses that care about the community and are willing to put their money where their mouth is. So, yeah, Pingree Detroit is definitely on my radar! πŸ‘
