Pingree Detroit to Open Flagship Store on Veteran's Day, Bringing Sustainable Fashion to The District Detroit
Pingree Detroit, a worker-owned footwear company that supports U.S. military veterans and employs Detroiters, is set to open its first flagship store in The District Detroit development near Little Caesars Arena. The new shop will be located at 22 W. Columbia St. and will feature a showroom and workshop where customers can watch artisans craft products.
Co-founder and CEO Jarret Schlaff describes the company's energy as "incredible" right now, citing the city's thriving atmosphere as a key factor in its success. Pingree Detroit is not only committed to sustainability but also prioritizes transparency, with 77% of profits being shared or reinvested locally.
The company boasts that over 55,000 pounds of recycled materials have been diverted from landfills to make handcrafted footwear, bags, and accessories. In addition to retail, the space will host "Footwear Fridays" where customers can meet their makers and watch artisans at work.
Schlaff emphasizes the importance of worker ownership in driving success, stating that it's an "economic survival strategy." The company's commitment to community is reflected in its pop-up event on November 10th at Little Caesars Arena, featuring a limited-edition collection with the Red Wings in celebration of their 100th season.
A portion of proceeds from this pop-up will benefit local charities supporting veterans. By opening its flagship store on Veteran's Day, Pingree Detroit is solidifying its presence in The District Detroit and continuing to make a positive impact on the community it serves.
