Students at Senn High School stage schoolwide anti-ICE walkout

Students at Senn High School organized a schoolwide walkout against immigration policy and ICE tactics, with dozens of students participating in the protest outside their school.

The group gathered at the intersection of Clark Street and Ridge Avenue, holding signs and flags calling for an end to immigration enforcement activity. Cars driving past the intersection honked their horns in support of the students' message.

According to junior Julia McGuire, who was part of the student organizers, they found out about the planned walkout through social media posts from classmates and decided on a date when they thought most teachers would be supportive.

While some teachers were "iffy" and reminded students to do their work, many were more supportive of the students' efforts. The school administration worked with student organizers to ensure safety measures were in place during the walkout.

The Senn High School walkout is part of a growing trend at other Chicago Public Schools, including Mather, Northside College Prep, Roosevelt, Amundsen, and Von Steuben high schools, which have all lent their voices to the immigrant cause.

the fact that these students are taking a stand for what they believe in, even if it means going against some teachers or administration, is actually pretty inspiring 😊. i think its great that social media played a role in organizing this walkout, and that so many people showed their support by honking their horns at the intersection 🚨. whats also cool to see is how other schools in the chicago public schools system are following suit, it shows that there's a growing sense of solidarity among students on this issue 🀝.

omg i'm so proud of these students!!! πŸ™Œ they're speaking out for what's right and standing up for each other πŸ€œπŸ€› it's amazing that most teachers were supportive, even if some were a little hesitant at first. you gotta give them props for using social media to organize and getting the word out πŸ“±πŸ‘₯ i'm not surprised the school administration got on board with safety measures, they want to keep those students safe too 😊 it's awesome to see this trend spreading to other schools in Chicago Public Schools - more power to these kids!!! πŸ’ͺ

🀝 saw that Senn High School students took a stand against ICE tactics, it's amazing how these kids are using their voice for change πŸ’– they must've been super nervous, but it's awesome that most teachers were supportive πŸ™Œ the fact that safety measures were in place is also really cool πŸ‘ gotta keep spreading awareness and supporting our young people who care so much about making a difference πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” I'm actually kinda impressed with these Senn High School students for taking a stand like this! I mean, it's not always easy to speak up, especially when you're just a kid. But they did their research (thanks to social media πŸ“±), got some support from teachers and school admins, and still made their voices heard.

It's also cool that the protest was peaceful and didn't disrupt anything - just a bunch of students holding signs and flags with messages like "End ICE Tactic" 🚫. I hope it sparked some conversations in their community about immigration policy... even if some teachers were kinda meh 😐.

I saw this thread about the Senn High School walkout on Twitter and I'm still trying to process how cool it is that these students took action like that 😊! They were brave enough to stand up for what they believe in, even if some teachers didn't understand it at first. It's awesome that their efforts are being recognized by the community - all those honks of support from drivers really made a statement πŸš—πŸ’ͺ

It's also interesting to see how these school walkouts are part of a bigger movement across Chicago Public Schools. I wonder if this will inspire more schools to take similar stances and create a ripple effect in the city πŸ’–πŸ“’

Its crazy how young people like these Senn High School students are taking a stand for what they believe in! 🀯 They organized this walkout not just as an expression of solidarity with the immigrant community, but also to bring attention to some really serious issues with ICE tactics... it's pretty impressive that most teachers were supportive, even if some were a little hesitant. I mean, its easy to get caught up in "just do your work" vibes, but these students are using their voices for something bigger than themselves - and thats super admirable! πŸ‘ What I find really interesting is that this walkout is part of a larger trend at other Chicago Public Schools, so hopefully it inspires even more schools to take action...

I don’t usually comment but I think it's awesome that these high school students are taking a stand for what they believe in πŸ™Œ. It's amazing how social media can be both a blessing and a curse, right? In this case, it helped spread awareness about their protest and got them the support they needed from teachers and the community. The fact that some teachers were iffy at first is kinda sad though πŸ˜”, but I guess it shows that there are still some misconceptions about the importance of student activism.

What's really inspiring is that these students aren't just speaking out against immigration policy for the sake of it – they're thinking critically about the impact it has on their families and friends 🀯. As a community, we should be supporting them in any way we can, whether it's through showing our solidarity or encouraging them to keep pushing for change πŸ’ͺ.

I'm kinda impressed that these students took it upon themselves to organize a schoolwide walkout 🀝🏽, even if they knew some teachers might not be on board with it. It's like they're trying to find common ground between what they want to happen and the rules of their school πŸ€”. And I love how they used social media to spread the word - it's amazing how powerful a good tweet can be πŸ’¬. The fact that cars driving by honked in support is just icing on the cake 😊. Now, I don't know if the school administration did enough to help with safety and all, but at least they tried 🀞. It's also cool to see other schools taking up the cause - we might be seeing a real movement brew here πŸ’₯.

Just saw this news about Senn High School students protesting against immigration policies 🀝🌎 It's amazing to see young people taking a stand for what they believe in, even if it means going against the norm. I'm so proud of these students who didn't let fear hold them back from speaking out - their voices are being heard and that's a beautiful thing πŸ’–. The fact that their teachers were mostly supportive is also super inspiring, shows us that there's still good in this world 🌈. It's no wonder we're seeing more and more schools joining the movement, something needs to change and these students are leading the way! πŸ‘
