Tolls to drive over eight Delaware River bridges will increase next year

Tolls Set to Rise on Eight Delaware River Bridges

Starting next January, drivers crossing the Delaware River via eight toll bridges will face increased tolls. The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has approved a rate structure that aims to raise toll prices by between 50 cents and $3 per vehicle, depending on the type of vehicle and payment method used.

The hikes are intended to fund transportation infrastructure projects, improve bridge maintenance, and offset rising construction costs. Eight bridges will be affected: the Trenton-Morrisville Bridge, Scudder Falls Bridge, New Hope-Lambertville Bridge, I-78, Easton-Phillipsburg Bridge, Portland-Columbia Bridges, Delaware Water Gap Bridge, and Milford Montague Bridge.

Vehicle owners can expect to pay more for tolls, with E-ZPass rates increasing by 50 cents to $2 for two-axle vehicles under 8 feet high. Without an E-ZPass, the rate will jump from $5 to $7. For larger vehicles like buses and trucks, per-axle tolls will rise from $6.50 to $9.

The increases come after the commission's executive director, Joseph Resta, warned that failing to implement them could put the group at risk of depleting its reserve balance and affecting debt servicing. The rate hikes are aimed at maintaining bridge safety, funding snow removal and salting during winter months, and ensuring structural integrity.

The Philadelphia area bridges operated by the Delaware River Port Authority, such as the Ben Franklin Bridge, will remain unchanged with a $6 toll per passenger vehicle.

This is gonna be a big hit to my wallet πŸ’ΈπŸ˜’. I'm all for improving bridge maintenance and whatnot, but 50 cents to $3 extra? That's just steep 🀯. What's next, tolls on the local parkway? The commission should try to find other ways to fund those projects, you know? Maybe some of that money could go towards improving public transportation or something 🚌.

And seriously, can't they just use the tolls for good old-fashioned asphalt repairs instead of trying to make all these fancy infrastructure upgrades? I mean, our roads are already a mess in Philly πŸš—πŸ˜‚. This is gonna be an interesting year with toll hikes...

omg i know its gonna suck for ppl who use these bridges daily but idk why they cant just raise tax instead lol tolls r not that bad anyway i feel 4 joe resta & his team tryin 2 keep those bridges safe & maintained its all about balancin budgets & priorities

OMG, u guys! I just got this deets from a friend who works for the commission 🀫, and apparently, they're really struggling to make ends meet πŸ’Έ. They've been warning ppl about this for ages, but no one's listening πŸ™„. The toll hikes are needed to fix all those old bridges, but it's gonna hit commuters hard 😬. I mean, who can afford a $7 toll without an E-ZPass? 🀯 Not everyone can afford it, you feel me? πŸ€‘ They're also worried about the reserve balance and debt servicing, so this is not just about making more cash πŸ’Έ...

πŸ€” got my money on a huge backlash from drivers who can't handle another price hike 🚨. like what's next? increasing the cost of air we breathe or something? also, why do they need to raise tolls so much? don't get me wrong, maintaining those bridges is super important, but is it really necessary to put the burden on us? i mean, can't they just dip into their reserve balance a bit instead of hitting us with a huge price jump? πŸ€‘

I'm not thrilled about these toll hikes! I mean, can't they just find other ways to fund their projects? πŸ€” I've been driving across those bridges for years and it's never been a huge problem. Now I'll be paying more just because they want to 'improve' the infrastructure... yeah right! πŸ˜’ The E-ZPass prices are gonna skyrocket too, that's just great for people who already have to shell out money for a membership. And what about all the commuters who rely on those bridges? They're gonna get hit with even more fees. It's not fair, you know? 🚫 I'm just hoping they can actually make good use of the funds and not just waste them on some fancy new project. Fingers crossed! 🀞

I gotta say, I'm not too stoked about these toll hikes πŸ˜’. I mean, I get it, the bridge commission needs to fund some much-needed projects and maintain those bridges for our safety and convenience. But 50 cents to $3 more? That's a pretty steep jump, especially for people who already have to shell out $$$ just to cross the river 🀯.

I'm also thinking about all the folks who rely on these bridges for their daily commute or business trips. If they can't afford to pay the increased tolls, it could be a real challenge for them. Maybe the commission should look into alternative revenue streams or ways to make the toll hikes more manageable? πŸ€”

On the other hand, I do hope this hike brings in some much-needed funds for those infrastructure projects and bridge maintenance. We don't want our bridges crumbling under us or becoming safety hazards 😬. So, while I'm not thrilled about the toll hikes, I guess they're a necessary evil. Fingers crossed that it all works out for everyone involved 🀞

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ "when you're already late for work and the tolls just get worse" πŸ•°οΈ
πŸ“ˆπŸ’Έ "increasing the tolls, because why not? it's not like we have enough money to fix the roads anyway" πŸ’ΈπŸ“‰

omg I'm so done with these toll hikes 🀯! Like, can't they just use our money to fix the roads instead of increasing the tolls? It's already hard enough navigating through Philly without having to shell out more cash for tolls on top of gas and parking fees. And what about all the people who aren't even using an E-ZPass? They're going to get hit with a bigger toll, which is just unfair πŸ™„. I mean, I get it, we need to fund infrastructure projects and whatnot, but can't we find other ways to do that without messing up our daily commutes?

Ugh, I'm so done with this toll hike thing πŸš—πŸ˜©. It's like they're going to break my wallet all over again. Remember when we used to just have one or two tolls and that was it? Now it feels like every time I cross the river, I gotta shell out some cash. And what's up with the different rates for E-ZPass users? That's just confusing πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ. My old man used to drive across those bridges all the time when he worked in Camden, and now he'd have to pay more too πŸ’Έ. What's next, gonna raise the rent on top of that? It's like they're sucking every last penny outta us πŸ€‘. Anyway, I guess it's good that they're fixing up the bridges and stuff, but can't we just find a better way to fund it without hurting people like me who are already struggling πŸ’ΈπŸ˜©.
