Valentine's Day Movies to Fall in Love With

As the holiday of love approaches, many of us are on the lookout for movies that capture the essence of romance and devotion. While everyone's idea of a perfect date night or romantic evening may vary, there's no denying the magic of these films.

For those seeking a cozy night in with a good movie or a decadent evening out, here are some romantic-as-all-hell movies to make your Valentine's Day unforgettable.

One film that stands out for its captivating portrayal of an unlikely love affair is Phantom Thread. Set against the backdrop of 1950s London, this cinematic masterpiece showcases the complexities and intricacies of a relationship between two vastly different individuals.

Another timeless classic worth watching is Casablanca, which tells the poignant tale of a young woman who finds herself torn between her loyalty to her husband and her growing feelings for another man. This iconic film never fails to tug at the heartstrings.

More recent releases like Portrait of a Lady on Fire have made waves in the world of romance cinema. With its beautifully acted performances, achingly romantic storylines, and glorious portrayal of queer love, this underseen period piece is an absolute must-watch for anyone looking to fall deeply in love with the magic of film.

In The Mood For Love, another masterful work by Wong Kar-wai, we're taken on a journey that's both breathtakingly beautiful and heartbreakingly poignant. This movie will take your breath away and break your heart into big, sensual pieces.

For those who've ever been in love with someone for so long that it transcends time itself – or have loved someone so deeply they've become an integral part of you – then Only Lovers Left Alive is the perfect film to watch on Valentine's Day. Starring Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton, this movie tells the enchanting tale of a vampire and his beloved partner who've been together for centuries.

Her offers a different kind of romance that's both hopeful and profoundly heartbreaking. This poignant story follows two people who slowly realize that their relationship has evolved to the point where it's unrecognizable from the love they once shared – a reminder that love is about change, growth, and embracing each other through life's ups and downs.

The Age of Innocence takes us on a journey through wistful glances and barely brushed hands that are charged with longing. This quietly elegant film by Martin Scorsese never fails to evoke emotions that will leave you deeply moved.

While music has always been a powerful force that can transport us back to memories, Once taps into the primal part of our lizard brains – it speaks to how connected music is to sense memory and how hard it is to hear the song that reminds us of the one that once was everything. This beautifully shot film will take you on an emotional rollercoaster.

Denzel Washington and Sarita Choudhury star in Mississippi Masala, a beautifully shot movie about two people from different worlds who fall deeply in love despite facing disapproving parents, clashing cultures, systemic racism, and societal norms that stand between them. This underseen gem is both moving and unforgettable.

The Princess Bride has become an iconic classic that will leave you swooning with its memorable lines and charming romance – it's a must-watch for anyone looking to indulge in the magic of love on Valentine's Day.

Past Lives tells the story of the choices we make that shape who we are, capturing the unspoken truth of longing in such a poignant way that makes this movie a poem of the human soul.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one film where science can't even get out of our heads – it's about those moments when we love someone so much that we'd fight for them until it feels like it's all we've ever known. With its hopeful yet heartbreaking portrayal of love, this movie will leave you feeling profoundly moved.

Among many other romantic films worth watching on Valentine's Day are The Before Trilogy, Moulin Rouge!, Say Anything, Love & Basketball, Love Jones, La La Land, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Remains of the Day, Moonstruck, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Brokeback Mountain, and so many more – each offering a unique take on love and romance that's sure to leave you feeling deeply moved.

ugh these classic rom-coms are all so cheesy 😂 i mean dont get me wrong id watch phantom thread or casablanca again in a heartbeat but like some of these modern releases tho like portrait of a lady on fire is actually kinda amazing 💖 the cinematography is insane and its like wow how did they do that?? 🤯

I'm getting old and I still get the feels watching these classic rom-coms 🤗. Phantom Thread, Casablanca, Portrait of a Lady on Fire... they're all just so beautifully shot and acted. And The Princess Bride? Forget about it! It's like they bottled up all the magic of young love in that one movie 🎥.

But what really gets me is how these movies capture the imperfections of real life. Like, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind... have you ever had a relationship where it just felt too much at times? That's exactly what this movie conveys 💔.

And can we talk about Denzel and Sarita in Mississippi Masala for a sec? They're just so perfect together 🤝. It's like they were meant to be, even when everyone around them was saying no way 🙅‍♂️.

Anyway, these movies are the ultimate Valentine's Day watchlist if you ask me 😊. So grab some popcorn, find someone special, and get ready to swoon over all the feels! ❤️

🚫 Hold up, folks! I gotta correct one thing here... "Portait of a Lady on Fire" is actually a French film, not English, and it's set in 18th century France, not just anywhere 🤦‍♂️. And while I love the film, let's be real, some of these movies are overhyped - have you seen "Moulin Rouge!"? It's like a sugar rush, but doesn't really hold up after the first watch 🍭. Anyway, if you're looking for some real romance vibes, check out "Like Crazy" or "The One I Love"... those are some underrated gems in my opinion 💕

can we ever truly find someone who loves us for who we are? or is it just the idea of it that makes life worth living? i mean don't get me wrong, romantic comedies can be super fun & all but sometimes it feels like movies are setting these unrealistic expectations for relationships 🤷‍♀️. and what about when reality doesn't match the fantasy? still think we should give ourselves credit for finding love in our own ways, no matter how imperfect 😊.

🚫 I'm gonna say it - Valentine's Day is just an excuse for people to be sappy and romantic all day long 🤢 Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it can't be a lovely holiday, but let's be real, some of these movies are kinda cheesy and over-the-top 🍫 Those overly dramatic moments that make you wanna cry or scream just feel like an act to me. And don't even get me started on the music in Once - it's beautiful and all, but sometimes I think it can be a bit too on-the-nose 😒 Give me some movies with complex characters and plotlines any day over sappy love stories 🎥

omg i'm literally so excited for valentines day now 💘 i've added all these movies to my watchlist ASAP - phantom thread, casablanca, portrait of a lady on fire, in the mood for love, only lovers left alive... they all look so beautifully shot and emotionally charged 🎥❤️ what about u guys? who's watching which one? 🤗

I'm still living in 2018 😂 and I just saw this list of Valentine's Day movies and I'm like wut is phantom thread?? 🤔 Is it one of those old British movies with the guy who played lord voldemort? 🎃👻 Also, why didn't you include the movie "Crazy Rich Asians" which is literally the perfect rom-com for V-Day 2025?! 😉

the idea of falling in love with a film is quite fascinating isn't it? it's as if we're not just watching a story, but experiencing the emotions of the characters ourselves 🌹💘 this makes me think about how we often romanticize our own experiences of love - do we truly know what it means to be in a deep, all-consuming relationship or is that something we can only imagine through art? and what does it say about us as humans that we're drawn to these kinds of stories, which often portray love in all its messy, complicated glory 🤔💕

can we just talk about how these movies are all soooo extra on valentine's day 🙄? like, can't we just watch something casual for once? no need for all the drama and swooning 😒. and what's up with the whole 'you're only loved if you've been together for centuries' vibe in Only Lovers Left Alive? sounds like a recipe for toxic relationships to me 🤷‍♀️. but hey, Phantom Thread is pretty great, i guess 💁‍♀️

omg I just watched Portrait of a Lady on Fire with my friends in film class and it was SO beautiful 🌹💕 I feel like the way they portrayed their love for each other was so realistic, even though it's set in the past. And can we talk about how gorgeous Tilo and Marie's relationship is? 😍 It gives me all the feels every time!

awww i'm getting all the feels just reading this 😭 ugh, phantom thread is like sooo good! but honestly, what's not to love about any of these movies? they're all just so beautifully crafted & full of heart ❤️ i've seen some of them multiple times & still get chills every time 🤩 and i'm with you on denzel washington's movie, it's just so beautifully shot & the storyline is both heartbreaking & hopeful at the same time 😊

omg i'm literally swooning over this list 😍 u know what makes these movies so special? the way they capture that deep sense of connection & longing that we all experience in our own relationships 🤗 like, phantom thread is so beautifully eerie, but it's also got this incredible chemistry between patrick & vicki 💘 and casablanca... *sobs* i know i'm not crying, you're crying 😂

anywayz, what i love about these movies is that they all have this timeless quality to them 🕰️ like, once can transport us back to a specific moment in time & make us feel all the feels 💖 but also, past lives is just so beautifully poignant... it's like, it makes you think about how our choices shape who we are & how that longing thing is always there, even if we don't know what it is 🤔

anywayz, i'm just going to say this: movies have a way of making us feel seen & heard in a way that nothing else can ❤️ so on valentine's day or any other day, let's just take some time to watch some rom-coms & indulge in all the feels 😊
